Just found this podcast yesterday. I've been recommending it to everyone I know. I love watching people learn and fall in love with the game in real time. I've been teaching my roommate how to play, and he's been playing on his own with arena since Murders at Karlov Manor. Bloomburrow will be his first prerelease at a store and he so excited. And I'm thrilled for him.
Great first episode! Looking forward to seeing more. My playgroup dont really care who does the life tapping. Its usually whoever gets to the phone first adjusts the life total.
Re: life total counters, there's a third option - the owner of the device keeps the score for everyone, but not aggressively i.e. wait for the player who's affected to either request the life total change, "I'll take two damage", or ensure that a soft approach is taken ("wait - isn't that three damage?". I don't like people messing with/touching my phone, just like my cards! For four-way commander, I find an iPad usually works better for a better touch surface for people to modify (and see!) their life total, and I don't feel weird about people touching that. Having a clearly visible score is handy, so this is my preferred method. Back In The Day(tm), we'd just use spindown D20s (I have several large ones I bought for this purpose but they have since been superseded by apps) and we'd all be responsible for recording our own life total, or someone would use a pen and paper and record the running total for all players. I used to see the Commander's Arsenal life counter, but given the rarity of these, it makes sense that I haven't seen one out there for several years.
I'm absolutely going to stare y'all down when I do combat damage now 😂 Personally I don't mind people touching my life total. Sometimes I'm super thankful for when someone is keeping track of triggers like Mirkwood Bats especially when I'm overloaded on new knowledge

Having never played a game before, I feel like I'd be taken aback if someone changed my life points on my behalf before I had the chance to.
