- Jay Shafer is a man who many know as the Godfather of the modern tiny house movement. It was 20 years ago now that he build his original tiny house on wheels and that moment has since inspired thousands of people all over the world (me included) to construct their own tiny homes.

WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW. We made it to 1 million subscribers! I honestly can't believe it. Thank-you all so much for your support to this channel and our journey. It's been such a ride over these past years with lots of ups and downs. Building a tiny house, and starting this channel was absolutely one of the best things I've ever done with my life. Really though, it's you, the viewers who make all this possible, so thank-you for being a part of our journey and helping us to do what we love. My promise to you is that we will continue to seek out incredible small homes to show you, and always work hard to improve the quality of our videos for you.
Some of you have been with us right from the beginning of this journey and that's an amazing thing. It's great to recognise so many familiar names and comments in the discussion of the videos each week. There's such a strong sense of positive community here and I love that.
It seems quite fitting that our first video at 1 million subs is of Jay Shafer. Jay was my original inspiration for building a tiny house on wheels, so to get to visit and film a tour of his new design was really special for me. I was homeless for a year after a series of horrible events. Spent many nights on the street, because I felt safer there than in the shelters. I would walk by ticket booths at downtown festivals or construction site port-a-potties and wish that I could sleep inside...just to escape the rain or cold, and have four walls and a roof overhead, but I would not trespass to do so. So I slept on the sidewalks or inside doorways to a nearby church office.
Miraculously, someone gave me a job which included a gym membership, so I could shower before work. Then I got a second job, and at one point, I worked three jobs close by each other, six days a week of doubles. Finally I had saved up enough to get into my little rental place; 200 square feet in the back 1/3 of a residential garage.
It's not the view I desire, (two fences and the back of a house) but my God, it's warm and dry!!!
So, yes...it may be a bedroom only, but it would be a castle to a homeless person!
Sorry to hear difficult circumstances landed you on the streets. I'm glad you were able to get a roof over your head and some work. Blessings to you.

I only just saw this video; how did I miss it the first time around! Gosh, brought a bit of a tear to the eye seeing how Jay has stayed as this super-humble and creative guy, his struggles and how generous Bryce is with his honest admiration for him. Amazing design given the constraints and fantastic seeing his authenticity and staying true to the tiny house mantra after all these years. Great video!!
When I first got interested in tiny houses back in 2009 I emailed this fella regarding some heating and electric ideas and he emailed me back himself within a day. Truly a good guy who really believes in what he does. Kudos

I'm impressed with him. I'm shocked about his houselessness story but he truly will help find a solution to this epidemic especially in expensive California.
Same here. When I was living in Calif, not too far from him I wrote him as well. That was about 15 years ago. He invited me to come look at the homes and I was going to, but I never did get down there. Always wish I had taken the time to do it. I ended up moving away but ever since then I wanted a tiny home. I did get a 26' travel trailer that I lived in for 2 years and was going to have it turned into one, but things changed again haha. Moved into a small, old house (to be closer to my daughter) and sold the trailer.
What does he do for electricity? I don't think he mentioned it!
I thought he said his light was from solar? If he shares a kitchen and uses his cell phone for the internet, then maybe he doesn't need electricity? Good question, though.

Yup. He was the designer behind the original Tumbleweeds. There was also a guy who was more into the business/money-making side, and he just sort of, to my knowledge, took over the whole thing. Jay's tried some solo ventures since, like Four Lights I think it's called, but with lacking marketing.
It could be so easy to give every homeless person one of those. Along with a shower block they could be the first step in getting back to a more 'normal' life.
Yes, a shared bathroom facility and a shared kitchen facility, with a number of homes arranged on a plot of land, not crowded together, but with sufficient room for a community garden. That would be awesome---if only the "elite" and "powers that be" would open their minds to see that.
@@jb6712 Honestly, the absolute minimum of space needed to be livable is much smaller than this tiny house. There are two ways to go about it: one is for making them easy to stack together, and the other is making the materials usage cheaper. If I write a long comment, youtube will shadowban it (will hide it for anyone except whoever posted it), so I will break it down into two other comments.
For stacking together, you have a 0.5m (3 ft = 1 m aproximatively) walkway on one side, with the last 0.3m being a shelf and a 0.2m being a sink with shelves above, the 1m before that being a folding table (or two) with shelves above, and the 0.5m before that being another folding table with shelves above, and on the opposite end of the shelf with a door , and on the other side you have a 1m wide 2m long bed with 0.5m of storage below it, then a fuel-efficient fridge of 1x1m, then a 0.5x1m shower+toilet+sink in a wet bathroom. This sums up to about 1.5x3m.
For saving on resources when building, you need a 2x2m space, rotate the bed, move the bathroom on the other side of the door and rotate it to shorten the length of the space by 1m from the bed and 0.5m from the toilet. You would have the toilet next to one side of the bed, and the folding tables would be on the bathroom's wall, but it lowers the maximum dimensions, which means more savings in materials. Though you would realistically need to add a few support beams for those folding wall-tables, even if the bathroom wall is corrugated stainless steel to help with it's waterproofing.
And for both of them you would need something else. For the longer version you would need a support beam on the bed-side of the fridge onto which to fit another folding table and so you can connect a clothes-hanger beam from the support beam to the wall above the window, which would be on the other side of the bed from the fridge (along it's length, not width). For the more compact version, you would have another folding table on one/each end of the bed's length, and above that you would have those clothes-hanger beams going from wall to wall, and a much wider window on the width-side of the bed on the opposite side with the rest of the inside surface of the tiny house.
This is my first time hearing about Jay Schafer, he seems to be such a kind spirited person. I wish Jay Schafer the best, and that he's never homeless again.
Bryce is very articulate and speaks emphatically with his guests. He has a lot of heart and is an excellent listener. This is why his questions are very relatable to us his viewers as if we are the ones asking the guests ourselves.

Homelessness -- this is *the reason* why tiny homes are so NEEDED. Tiny home builders in my area (TN) are charging in excess of $45,000 (and up) for a 280 square foot tiny home, not to mention the extra cost of land. Every time I go down the rabbit hole of tiny homes, I'm reminded of how hopeless it is to dream of keeping a roof over my head.
Recently I watched a video (on this channel) where a woman built a tiny house for herself and her teenage daughter. It took her two years to build with lots of recycled bits and pieces... So, you could try making one for yourself if you can find the space to park it. Don't give up the dream so easily - keep looking and planning.
You could also go for a shipping container. Then you already have the structure. All you need to do then is finish it. And Ikea has a lot of solutions. A kitchen could be 100 Euro if you want to.

You’re right, the most difficult issue is finding a place to “ park”. Trailer parks are ripping off its tenants by making “ parking fees” like condo fees. In excess of 3-4-6 hundred dollars a month for a “stall”. Working together for the greater good of humanity is what’s needed. I’m in. I want to be surrounded by people that are community thinkers and help one another 🕊
Trixie, Be an advocate and do everything you can to not get lost in the cracks, I don't know where you live but if you can there are agencies like H.U.D. and Housing Authorities on federal, state and county even town levels where they can work with you, your income, challenges etc. There are options, solutions, hope but you need faith in yourself, others, for the good of all no matter how daunting and seemingly overwhelming, information, bureaucracy and nay Sayers can be. Sending prayers, love, faith in the good for all your way...stay strong, stay well and God Bless!
To someone who is homeless right now, this was so heartwarming. To be reminded what is important. The movement has changed a lot, and I really appreciate this return to the roots; the reminder that you don't need all the bells and whistles. And - I'm European and always wonder how some of the houses in America can be called tiny, when they would simply be called 'a house' over here in Europe! Just - so much appreciation to Jay. What a man, what a heart.

I wish you the best. I grew up in an era where we were conditioned to have the big house and the big car etc. After spending some time in Europe, I realized I was one person with one booty and 3 full bathrooms. My house wasn't considered big! When I moved to Europe, I downsized.

The first time I ever volunteered at a shelter I couldn't believe how many homeless children there were, my heart honestly broke that day, no one should live in the streets.
This man is an angel. The Tiny House movement has gotten so far off track from its origins and purpose of affordable housing. Thank you for this. Why someone would spend $40000 on reclaimed materials for a similarly sized unit is beyond me. I guess because they can and they know somebody somewhere will buy it. I’d rather have this. It’s all I’d need. It would keep me out of debt. I wouldn’t be property poor. I would never have the fear of becoming homeless as I grow older. This is what I’ve been looking for! Thank you again!
What you guys who have never been homeless don't understand is any shelter that is nice and keeps out rain is a home!!! If you have been homeless you would understand. Sure having water, kitchen and a bathroom makes a quote unquote real home. But when you've been on the streets, the ground sleeping or in a grimy shelter, a tiny little cabin is a home!
Just bcs you're used to not having basic services and human rights doesn't mean you deserve such deprivations. Advertising oneself as a walking charity "giving" the homeless less than what's necessary just bcs they're "used to" it's exploitative, opportunistic and dehumanizing. I didn't got "used to" deprivations and violence, it wrecked my sense of self-worth and affected my mental health enormously as I was getting sadistically abused, raped, degraded, drugged and numbed down against my will, destroyed, with permanent PTSD, constantly life threatened, suicidal and deprived of safety and basic things like food, sleep, body autonomy and running water. Neither you nor I can speak for any homeless person nor settle for less than being respected, loved, cared for, and safe wheather we're homeless or not right now. A roof and a shelter help but are not enough, using the excuse that it's bcs it's meant for the homeless can be right down evil specially if it comes from a person in a current position of power, I'm talking about the self-proclaimed guru interviewed in the video.
Lucy Towey funny that you keep saying safe, but a kitchen doesn’t provide safety, nor does running water and a sewer connection... the box with the lock provide that, as is shown in the video... and nobody forced Jay to go without those in this build, he made those choices for himself, so for YOU to speak out against his desires and living arrangement is a bit silly since the one word you repeatedly mention IS COVERED by this build.

This house is not ever going to be used by homeless ppl, so it should be up to modern standards of the basics: a shitter and a sink, and a cooking surface and food storage.

This man has a very understanding heart when it comes to being homeless, I myself have been homeless at one walk in my life. I wholeheartedly believe nobody should be homeless or hungry. Need more men like him in the world!
This house is super small! But it beats a tent or a prison cell. We need more of these for our priced out people.
We could live in pods and eat bugs. We could also stop taking in millions of foreigners every year so people arent priced out in the first place.

@Baba Ganush What I love about this design is it also wouldn't be too hard to adapt it into a structure with a bathroom and kitchen. Honestly you might even be able to fit that in without increasing the length if you replace storage. And damn, 2000 lbs is freaking insane! It's insane to think it's possible to have a tiny house you could tow with any car

@@MythosGandaar Agreed. Also the mini-fireplace heating solution is ingenious. It doesn't require much not even electricity or wood to get it going. A compost toilet would be good there, not sure about how a shower could be integrated though. Maybe an extension on the outside patio... With a tuck-away tarp curtain for privacy. But they did say they have a public bathroom and communal kitchen somewhere so I don't think it'd matter much.
It's a shame that he started a grass roots movement and now the big home builders and greedy people are involved and many tiny houses cost up to $85,000 which is ridiculous. You have to have knowledge and build yourself for it to be affordable for most people.

Katie Haley Worse are the regs communities are adding to either prevent tiny home building or find ways to charge taxes on them like they due on larger homes. (Property taxes are usually determined by sq footsge so many areas require a home to be 300 sq ft or more to be legally livable).
Nonsense, he just showed nothing is stopping people from doing it cheaply... And it's not greed if people have special needs or want to do things like live off grid or have a home that can outlast them... There's RV's that go into the millions and you're complaining about people having more choices with structures actually built to be homes?!... Seriously, the best way to assure a housing solution will fail is to eliminate choice and force everyone to live the same way regardless of their actual needs...

An $85k tiny home may not be for you, but it could be a steal for someone else. Labor costs and hiring a team of professionals to build your home isn't cheap. But it's still a fraction of the cost to hire a similar team to build a regular home with the same material.
If you think you can build your own home, go for it and save some money. If you think you can manufacture custom homes for other people for cheaper than all those "greedy" people, then do it.
Katie Haley People have a choice at what they want to do and how much they want to spend. There is nothing wrong with someone who is a entrepreneur, capitalizing on this idea or any other. It’s called capitalism. It’s brought more people out of poverty then anything else out there.
I've been living out of my car for a year now... I was homeless for 11 months on the street beforehand. This is inspiration to me .

It's far better than being homeless, to all the people saying its a room not a house.
That is not the point. It is being called a tiny house but it is a room and talking about people being homeless doesn't change that fact. It is nothing to do with the plight of the homeless. A $5000 room is not going to change that.
@@pitbullsandcalicos my mom's home was a room according to many of you.. yeah, she used candles, the bathroom was outside and it was a hole in the ground.. still, she lived there, she grew there and it was her home. Might not he the best of them all, but it is a home nonetheless

Obviously YOU need other amenities or square footage to call something a home but I believe historically speaking, anything that protects you from the elements and provides a shelter where you can lay your head at night is a home. Everyone gushing about the 'homeless' are missing a big fact, which I have already shared in other posts above. 'Homeless' is an inaccurate over-generalized term. The truly needy and homeless seek assistance and programs already in place. The ~street people~ most visible are Criminal Vagrants; Transients; Mental and Emotional Cases; Drug and Alcohol abusers, and a horde of other elements not prone to following rules or being willing to bend to supervision required to better their lives. All elements not likely to follow required rules and since this is America, we can't force people to better their lives. They fly under the radar to avoid rules and scrutiny. You'll have no luck getting them into a 'tiny house' or any other shelter, assistance program or social plan - and there are plenty available.
2L82SK8Bye - how many street people do you personally assist, feed or house under your own roof? Not criticizing, just making a point. Neither do I. Why? Because most can't be trusted and would not follow my house rules: curfew, no drugs/alcohol, no fighting, no stealing, no loafing about. And the truly needy don't need my help, because they go to the proper agencies already in place and available.
For sure a noble approach and I agree that people should have a roof over their heads, but again, sounds good but that's about it. If you are serious about it, I mean, you yourself, you have to give shelter to people or provide other people with no house with a house.

The older I get --the more I realize how little I really need! I would just love to live in one of these tiny homes. Gonna spend the next 2 years talking my husband into a tiny home. He retires in 2 years! LOL Would love to purchase a plot of land and put her right dab in the middle and enjoy our golden years with a lot less stuff and more LIVING! God bless you Jay!

I really wonder what happened to Jay. He looks like he’s been through a lot. Last I read was a puff piec a few years ago about his lovely smallish home in California with his wife and kids--the loss of which seems to be part of what happened. What a survivor he is--and what an example of overcoming adversity.
CA blows in most counties for things like this. It's my home and I love it for some reasons but the lack of reasonably priced housing (owned or rented) is driving myself and many of my associates to states like Texas, Florida, Colorado, etc.

I agree! Not trying to include everything under the sun into it.
Think about how many lives this could change across the world, who cares if it "isn't a home" by some standards. It's private, warm, mobile and sustainable. Not to mention very cost effective, given that you have a place to park it. That's pretty damn remarkable.
I absolutely agree, but the reason is doesn’t happen I think is that it would take a whole new beauraucracy to manage it. There have already been problems with tiny house community efforts (sorry, I don’t have the link to hand, but there have been a number of reports). People who have never had stable lives are sometimes not the best at even minimal maintenance and many will still have the problems that often lead to homelessness and will need more intense support than just a roof--BUT I also know from my reading that the first step should be a home, not treatment and then a home if you succeed, so we should work to develop programs that accomplish both of these goals. It will cost money and that’s a hard sell to our current society, sadly.

This video is so much more than a tiny house tour! I love the idea of tiny houses simply for their affordability, and I really think that the movement has lost sight of it, so this really brings it back into focus.

He actually did for quite a few years, but someone who wasn't ethical did things they shouldn't have, and shifted attention away from Jay's simple designs and his wonderful ethics of simplicity being more important than being grandiose in housing design.
It sounds like reading between the lines that someone took advantage of Jay’s good nature and he lost a lot instead of profiting from a movement he basically started. Love his sincerity, unfortunately people like him get taken advantage of all the time.
I’ve seen every size tiny home and love all the passion and creativity in each design. What is so incredibly special in this video is Jay’s desire to continue designing housing options that serve a fundamental purpose. While I’ve never been homeless (and hope never to be), I’m very thankful for all of Jay’s inventions, especially this one!
I have been where he's been. Always one foul step from being there again. As I'm aging it's scarier than even before. His whole approach to building this particular tiny home is absolutely beautiful to me and so important a contribution to helping to end homelessness.

The simple reality is most people are homeless due to mental illness not a simple lack of funds. They are not going to just get put in a shoebox home and be happy. You are looking at solutions that make you feel good, not solutions that will work based on the conditions of the people that are actually homeless.

I knew deep in my heart the world would never be the same again because in a consumer driven society the idea of less sounds as if, success is measured by the size of the house you own. Jay's whole demeanor is so peaceful and serene. What gentle spirit. I loved this video. And what a beautiful tiny house. As a social worker in the field of homeless outreach in a west coast city with an rising population of people experiencing homelessness, I'm intrigued at the idea of using tiny houses to get people off the streets. I'd love to know more about that and whether cities have implemented this idea in their planning to address the issue of homelessness. Bryce, can you do a little documentary on this? I'd love to see something like that. Or to directly connect to cities or programs that have implemented this sort of thing.
Eugene, Oregon is one of the first cities to have something like that.
It's hard to imagine there is any channel like this where I watch every new video, like every one of them, and don't hesitate to comment. I tried to analyze what is so special about the Bryce's project, because it's not the only one about tiny hauses, down sizing, etc. And I think that besides the great quality of videos and interviews, interesting people, the real power is in the cheerful Bruce's spirit and his enthusiasm and genuine belief. They give all of us not only hope but real examples of simple life where kindness and love could exist. All this is definitely more than about living big in a tiny space, this is about good people coming back to rationality and naturalness. Thank you, and keep going!!!

I recently came across one of your videos and have been binge watching ever since! I love the way that you brought it back to where it all started. It really brought tears to my eyes listening to how Jay Shafer became the pioneer of the Tiny House movement as a result of experiencing homelessness. As someone who has experienced homelessness in my lifetime as well, I totally understand how it feels to just want a simple roof over your head. All the other stuff that comes with it is just the icing on the cake, but the roof and something to call your own is what it all boils down to. God Bless Jay Shafer for starting this movement, and God Bless you Bryce for allowing us all to see so many variations of Tiny House Living. Keep up the great work!

It's been done before and unfortunately still is happening now.

Trucks should have a low price too. Like they used to. People used to get a truck as their first new vehicle because it was the cheapest way to get four wheels. Trucks haven't changed meaningfully.
Ever since I learned about tiny houses, I've dreamed of living in tiny house village. The idea of everyone with the same dream living and sharing ideas. A communal firepit, community center with library, laundry, kitchen etc for all to share. I dream of a completely no smoking, drugs, alcohol community. Thank you Jay for starting the movement! I just wish more cities would get on board and legalize these homes!

People who have everything don't think about those who have nothing and are suffering or struggling just to find a place to lay your head and food to eat. It is valid that is a better place than living on the streets - but I don't think it is fair - borderline click bait - to call this a "home", more a cabin or a camper. Language is an important thing in communicating a concept and not all build areas could have a shared bathroom/kitchen/food - this certainly is a great idea for a community of those in need, but that isn't why I clicked on the video.

I have followed you from the beginning Jay...I keep finding myself going back to basics and paring down the clutter, physical, mental, emotional or whatever. Whether I actually find myself in a tiny home or not, the movement is symbolic of a life full of realness, fearlessness, truth, self-love, and love for other beings. Quite a hyperbolic way of describing it. Most who are long term homeless won’t take care of themselves or their lives. Throwing money at those people doesn’t give them the ethics or sense of responsibility it takes to support themselves, it just gives them something to waste. It’s unfortunate, but when the problem is the person themself it is impossible to help them short of fully adopting them as though they were toddlers. So. To the furnace! :D
As for circumstantial homelessness or child homelessness, that is different. Hopefully, that would be closer to minimizing with the development of smaller, less expensive housing. Sort of like a halfway house, but a financial one. The only worry about that is that a collection of them would turn into slums, but that would still be an upgrade to facing the elements.

While I couldn't ever live in the homes Jay designs as they're a bit *too* simple & paired down, I have SO MUCH admiration and respect for what he does. I think with the direction the tiny house movement has been going, with tiny homes being pushed gradually larger, fancier, & more costly over time, it's wonderful that folks like Jay continue to offer a balance in the opposite direction.

Yes, I agree. Jay offers a good thought exercise regarding one's wants and needs. Can I do without running water? Can I live without a cooking area or bathroom amenities? Questions like these.
I feel like these small homes, even if they are a bit small and lack basic utilities have a welcoming stress free feel to them. Id like to describe it as an escape from the world. A great place just to sit down and get ideas down on paper and focus on art, music, literature and ect. Id be down to have a peaceful weekend getaway house.
Although too tiny for my personal taste he does make an interesting point with this project. The attention to design that maximizes space and the use of lightweight materials really questions why some of the larger “tiny” houses are priced in the 100k plus range. The whole principle behind a tiny house is to simplify your life and provide the owner with some sort of financial freedom by getting away from the traditional mortgage/housing costs of a regular home. Don’t get me wrong i think there are some amazingly beautiful larger tiny homes out there but there really has to be an effort to rethink the cost/pricing structure of these dwellings.
Very true. Affordable is a word which obviously means different things to different people. Certainly for those who are facing an average house price tag of over 1 million dollars (as is the average in the city where I live), 100,000 can seem super affordable and a great option. To others, it's again beyond their reach. I really like Jay's philosophy and his willingness to really explore simple living and what our most basic needs are in a home. Certainly creating simple, yet beautiful designs like this allows a home to be accessible to everyone.
Actually, cost depends a lot on what people want from their home...
Things like being able to live completely off grid can add 25-30% to the total cost but means never having to pay a utility bill... Having a home that can withstand climate extremes and extreme weather conditions can also be costly but can increase the range of places people can choose to live and reduce risks like the home being damaged by severe weather...
Everything just has trade offs but there are often benefits to consider, like better energy efficiency can significantly lower long term costs and better durability can significantly reduce maintenance and repair costs.
Long term costs can be quite significant and add up to multiple times what the house originally cost to purchase when you start getting into decades.
So a higher up front cost can mean a lower long term cost with a more significant savings as well as its effect on quality of life...
Mind, Shafer's home presently doesn't have a kitchen or bathroom... So final costs are likely to go up significantly if he ever adds those because a kitchen and bathroom are usually the most expensive parts of a house... Especially, if he has to add the cost of infrastructure to provide the home with water, etc.
There's also the difference of building it yourself versus paying someone else to do it...
So it's more a issue of what people want to get out of it versus what they are willing to do to get it...
Like for those who don't need a custom designed home, there's options like Core Housing, a company started by Andrew Bennett, better known for Trekker Trailers and helping to found NOAH, which produces a 28' THOW constructed from SIPs that's just around $28K...

This house is very beautiful in its design, simplicity and meeting of at least a couple of basic needs, a comfortable place to sleep, a room over your head, door that locks, windows, storage space, desk, heater... very nice. It's be nice to have a shower block outside and some kind of little sink. Idea of community bathrooms and kitchen is very good.
I too was essentially homeless. After series life changing events. Literally living from motels, hotels and my car a few nights. And although I have a very nice place now in Las Vegas. I’m considering the tiny home lifestyle. Sincerely appreciate you sharing this. Many blessings to you!❤️
A shame to see such negative comments. What might help is hone in on the fact that he uses this in conjunction with a common bathroom and kitchen (which we are not shown). In other words, this needs to be understood as part of a cooperative arrangement with others. I think that idea really could have potential.
Well, if that didn't bring a tear to Jay's eyes, it did mine! Thank you both so much. Tiny homes, especially mobile, are getting to be a necessity with so many people being displaced from fires, floods, etc. I luckily have a trailer I can stay in for now. And just this morning offered my tiny apartment (again) for my best friend and her family to stay in as the fire nears Ojai once again. My trailer is on Craigslist so I can move forward building my own tiny home on wheels. Thanks guys for all your inspiration.

This was so inspiring. This man has gone through so much, but has never given up, instead he did something great with his life. This home is amazing. When I think of how many homeless people there are, I get very sad because if others would just think about the homeless and build homes like this, people would be off the streets!

I pray that this home will be accepted by local government in the United States as a viable living space for those that can't afford more and for those that are wanting to live with less so they can share what they have with those in need. You always highlight the people, their ingenuity, and what truly makes a home...home. I’ve learned a lot and have a dream of my husband and I building our own tiny home someday in the future. We bought an older house twelve years ago. My husband completely redid the entire place. He even built me an 8x8’ creative space in our backyard. We decided to downsize and sold our house, moving into a two BR apartment. Then we downsized again to a one BR apartment. Next move in my mind is only logical-a tiny house! :-)
What an amazing guy! And what an honest and humble attitude. It goes to show that some of the most amazing individuals, are those who have themselves experience hardship and yet, they don't succumb to self pity, but instead rise to the challenge, creating hope and a new perspective about living and being human.

When your MacBook costs half of what your home does
I get what your point is, but that's just a tiny MacBook Air.
Not a $2000+ MacBook Pro with top specs.
Airs are about $700-800 new. Even less, used, as they are rather feeble laptops.
I used a 10.5" netbook as my main computer for 5 years while doing my PhD in hard sciences. Let me tell you about the minimalism! Those macbooks are all made in china for 1/10th of the price. Just order one in ali baba and install linux. If you really wanna go minimal, just buy a raspberry pi 4.
Some simple neat luxuries like a MacBook who cares if it makes him happy, and you can sit with a Mac book anywhere

I love the design of this. I can imagine a set of bedroom pods like this in an Earthship style home for a family or small group, or a village style community with a larger shared communal bathroom and kitchen space. Some really interesting ideas for making a 7x8 foot room in a traditional house feel incredibly space efficient too!
I really admire the simplicity and ideas behind this artists tiny house creation's. He lives in his art creations. He must create things with his hands. You should apply for a grant to teach others how to transform from homeless to homeowner. However, I know here in America, when you're at your lowest, that's where the government wants to keep you. My husband sit there like a couch potato work 1/2 hrs bitchy already. This man is a strong man build his own home all by himself amazing.
I love that he used his experience from the time he spent being homeless as a way to minimize into his living.. i too was homeless but to me it felt like an adventure i could go wherever i wanted whenever i wanted and wasnt tied down to returning to the same place with all these unnecessary things.. i hope someday to build my own tiny home as a work in progress throughout my life.. im very excited to begin but begining is the hardest part...
