I wish more people would understand that Yurt originates from Mongolia and we call it “Ger”. We have been using it forever. Most Mongolians use it to this day. My grandma have one and I grew up in it with her. At that time I didn’t realize how special it was. I am glad people are finding our ger(yurt) super efficient.
Hi, do you ventilate the ger only with the dome when cooking? I see ones in the USA with windows and was wondering how mold stays out of the original. I guess it's the natural materials like the wool felt that keeps it mold-free. Any information would be helpful.

I'm not really sure if those round walls will securely carry that roof. Especially in a storm situation. I really love those geodesic domes tho. A quite large one would be amazing imho.
My wife and I chose not to have children, however, if we had done it differently, we most definitely would have wanted to do something like this for our child. I think this is so important, especially in today's throw-away society, to know what is necessary to live a fruitful life. I believe I would homeschool as long as it made my child feel fulfilled. I realize that maybe at a certain age, a child might want something else as far as friends and such, but as I've watched many TH-cam channels on different styles of living and raising families, I believe we are coming back around to what's important not only for us as humans, but for the earth and sustaining a lifestyle that is conducive to giving back to the earth and taking care of it as it takes care of us. My wife is great about buying second hand, and recycling which helps us to not only care for the earth but to save money. We love what this couple has done and as we near retirement, we will be able to sell our home and live a much smaller life with a smaller footprint. These videos inspire and excite us! We have lived tiny before, but as our parents have gotten older, they needed to be close to family which is why we have a house/duplex at this point, so they can have a place to live and still provide all of us with privacy. I'm not trying to write a book here, so I will close by wishing all the best to this amazing family and thanking them for sharing their lives with us!

This home is absolutely gorgeous! The couple was so talented, wise, and artistic. The husband knows so much about living off the land, I could listen to him all day. It’s so refreshing to see people like this who have chosen their path wisely and unplugged from city life and all its traps. I hope to see more videos from this lovely couple.
This whole reclamation idea is the way to go. It keeps useful material out of the landfills, and it makes building a home more affordable. I am looking at that kitchen and thinking that it would have been a crime to toss it all into the dumpster. Good cabinets and counters, double sinks, an island. All useful and much needed. Think about it; all over North America people are renovating or tearing down buildings. And all that is headed into landfill. What about recycling the good stuff? A decent one room condo is going for over $250 000.00 these days. And it took less than $50 000.00 to build this house. Think about it.
Habitat for humanity restore does just that. It takes donations of furniture and building supplies ie: cabinets, lights, sinks, doors, countertop, toilets.... and then sells them and uses the money to help others. And they pick up all you do is call and make an appointment and they come and pick it up whatever your getting rid of. It counts as a donation to shop there so you can also write off the stuff you buy in your taxes 👍🏻 and you keep good stuff from rotting in the dump. I’ve found so really great stuff for a fraction of what I would have paid in store
Sandra Nelson I have reclaimed a lot of stuff over the years. Keep in mind that reclaimed materials and furniture can be very economical, and in some cases older stuff that is reclaimed is a lot better than newer things. But, the romance of reclaiming stuff fades for many people when faced with the time investiture need to make reclaimed materials actually work for you. There is an enormous time investment that is required.
Yes, so true. I like Habitat ReStore as well. I've gotten such good things for free (on the side of the road) and cheap and I'm incorporating into my builds as we speak.
@@Amanda_in_wonderland sadly it doesn't work sometimes. We has a habitat for humanity store in Virginia Beach and it closed after a couple years. I was sad to see that go. I think they didn't give it enough time to catch on or something. One would think it would almost automatically succeed. We as a culture have become such a throw away society and its driving force is corporate greed.
I love homes like this where everything in it has a story. That makes living there so special. And their son is growing up in a gorgeous environment. He will be able to live off the land and have an amazing life. What a beautiful family. We have an off grid property. Only 12 acres. But we are talking about possibly adding a few more acres. A man who has about 100 acres behind us has offered to sell us a little more land. I like the idea of having at least 20 acres but if we can get enough to have 25 that would be nice for my husband. He hunts. And I might try at some point. But I think the animals are so beautiful. We have a lot of deer and turkeys. hope we can have something as nice as this family one day. @@nealm6764 Yes, and it's new for them at the moment. After a while, it won't be so new and they will probably have the same attitude as those who grew up on the land. I didn't see any sanctimonious or superior attitudes. I just saw how thrilled they are to be able to give their youngster this kind of life.
We have largely been separated from nature. It's great that they recognize how important it is. I am leaving the suburbs and doing something similar with my family. I grew up in the country, and I miss it.

I agree lol. It is wonderful but, I live "traditional" and haven't had a dishwasher in years. But it is a great way to raise a family I think. Going back to our roots so to speak. Although, I applaud the composting toilet as well I wondered if it draws animals being all open like that?🤔
Maya Brits maybe they are well informed and understand they are claiming to be off-grid (meaning you are not connected to the electrical grid) yet they are connected to the electrical grid. They use propane etc. drywall and insulation in a yurt. Very confusing. They just grew a beard and dreads and claim to be off grid and eco friendly. They just have a garden is all.

They are removing themselves from the physical distribution of needs that come with typical living arrangements and immersing themselves in a 'more' primitive lifestyle. You can invent whatever it means for yourself I suppose, but being hooked up to the Electric grid is an immediate diqualifier to actually being off gird, or "mostly off grid". It doesn't make them bad people, or not a lovely family, it just means they aren't off grid, so relax with the overwrought drama.

This is my first time learning what a Yurt is, beautiful home and spacious; my husband own land, and purchasing a yurt is a great idea to look into. I enjoyed the vide, lots of creative idea, and a good home is what you make of it, and her love is all over that home; thanks for opening your beautiful home with us. I most certainly enjoyed it.
I think this is beautiful. The yurt is such a pleasing home size and shape and to put drywall and insulation is brilliant. They have great taste and truly have worked at making a very light on the land home. I just visited the Kogi Indians in Colombia who have a very strong belief about being good to the earth. Their houses are similar and they garden in a similar way. No livestock or really big torn up tracts. If they were able to afford 30 acres in rural CA (which is no where near the price of the crappiest home in the SF Bay Area), then more power to them. They are protecting and being great stewards and that is likely why they had the opportunity. Bless you both!! I'd love to learn more about your life.

They should line the walls with tapestry rugs and make it really a beautiful showcase the way the Mongolians do! Just love yurts! They are amazing!!!! So beautiful and easy to setup with little need for much and everything is typically cosmetic so it's very simple to do especially with nomadic farming. 💚💚💚💚💚💚stay green fingered 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚 PS I would consider figuring out a way to offer heated flooring if you plan to stay put in one spot, only if that's an option. But for basic nomadic living that wouldn't work too easily unless the flooring could also be disassembled and reassembled every move. But it would be worth the luxury to have better heating especially in this cold climate.

That is truly s nice Yurt and something I could live in permanently, as it seems people always use it as a temporary dwelling until their real house is built
I think most people don't use yurts permanently because they aren't meant to be permanent structures, they breakdown within a couple years. So you have to replace and repair often. Making them more work and expense in the long run.
Since they are made to be easily taken down and relocated, it is possible people are concerned thieves might haul it away. I don't like that you can't use the windows as emergency exits, and yurts usually only have one exit door. Oddly, people tend to put their wood burning stove next to the door, too!
They seem like wonderful people, and the home is beautiful! Now I have to ask, and hope someone will come back and answer: Are they safe from the fire situations in the state?

People live in ramshakle houses all over the US. Visit upstate NY, West Virginia, or any other rural part of the US. It's not really an unusual way to live. I wish they had forgone toxic drywall and insulation and opted for a natural hay insulation solution and clay walls. I also want to add that one can definitely live frugally and minimally in cities, towns and the countryside without having to resort to this sort of "build it from scratch and escape society" living. Sometimes working with what you already have is best. I feel like they were the kind of people who bragged about not having a TV while watching netflix on their wi-fi in their city days. :-/
It also seems a lot of these products that do this are very well off financially. Yes, I hear people say they haven't had to for 6 years now, BUT they spend all their spare time on youtube lol.
@@brandyatracey3003 Rest assured there is a trust fund involved. It's the same as people purchasing brand new teslas and claiming they are "green" as opposed to buying a used honda with mad gas milage, that doesn't demand new resources for production, and endevoring to walk or bike as much as possible. They could have bought a foreclosed house or cabin in the country with acreage and farmed that. Doing things from scratch is always the least sustainable method.

Washing machines and dishwashers are so cheap on the used market...why not. But Im old school...I actually like to do the dishes by hand...and if there are guests...the after meal kitchen is the social focus area. Different strokes for different folks.
They are already hooked up to electricity and using gas... they don't move this yurt around all the time, so could have make a regular septic toilet/bathroom for more comfort, IMO. Overall though - beautiful place to live and raise kids!
Besides useing the grey water for the trees ,humanure is used after composting for the same (to feed the trees) , it's one of many options in permaculture ,instead of storing in an underground tank which then requires it to be delt with at sewage treatment facility.

I'm so tired of living with a lot of stuff and in this structured Lifestyle… before I die I wish while I'm healthy... to be able to do these things and live this way. If only I could find a man that is on the same page and we just get off the grid and live, honestly live in peace,thats freedom to me.
I’m a man and I’m looking into getting rid of most of my “stuff” and only keeping what I actually need then moving into something like a tiny house or equivalent. I’m single and prefer not to go it alone so if you are serious let me know lol. You never know, we might be meant for each other lol. Im not an alcoholic, don’t do drugs, never been in prison lol, I’ve never put my hands on a woman in anger, and I’m generally in a happy mood lol
Its gorgeous, but to call it a tiny house when I would estimate its about 3 times as big as my bricks and mortar house, is a bit of a stretch! Love yurts though.

Hey Bryce, how about expanding from just mainly your Tiny-house focus to also include more variety, such as alternative off grid technical solutions and alternative homes eg; geodesic dome homes, more on yurts, and also micro hydro electric schemes that provide enough power to power a home or two, from the adjacent stream, and also rocket stoves; go visit Ernie and Erica Wisner, the pioneers of early rocket stove development, also more on permaculture setups, (which Ernie and Erica Wisner also are interested in), and small wind turbines, and biomass anaerobic digesters that produce methane gas for cooking, and nitrogen rich fertilizer for the garden.- Anaerobic digesters are one solution for processing composting toilet waste. - and also video anything to do with off grid living, where clever unusual, alternative low impact, nature-friendly systems have been created to meet everyday living needs for off grid living ? And 1 metre high x 2 metre long raised veggie gardens, so you don't have to bend over, and also geothermal heated green houses that use the ambient ground temperature extracted from 4 metres below ground level to warm the air sufficiently enough for the green house to flourish in a snowy winter. Food for thought !!

Nomadic Turks where live Central Asia (Turkistan) and Mongolian people generally use it .

@@Amanda_in_wonderland sadly it doesn't work sometimes. We has a habitat for humanity store in Virginia Beach and it closed after a couple years. I was sad to see that go. I think they didn't give it enough time to catch on or something. One would think it would almost automatically succeed. We as a culture have become such a throw away society and its driving force is corporate greed.
I love homes like this where everything in it has a story. That makes living there so special. And their son is growing up in a gorgeous environment. He will be able to live off the land and have an amazing life. What a beautiful family. We have an off grid property. Only 12 acres. But we are talking about possibly adding a few more acres. A man who has about 100 acres behind us has offered to sell us a little more land. I like the idea of having at least 20 acres but if we can get enough to have 25 that would be nice for my husband. He hunts. And I might try at some point. But I think the animals are so beautiful. We have a lot of deer and turkeys. hope we can have something as nice as this family one day. We have largely been separated from nature. It's great that they recognize how important it is. I am leaving the suburbs and doing something similar with my family. I grew up in the country, and I miss it.

I agree lol. It is wonderful but, I live "traditional" and haven't had a dishwasher in years. But it is a great way to raise a family I think. Going back to our roots so to speak. Although, I applaud the composting toilet as well I wondered if it draws animals being all open like that?🤔
Tiny living is as much about your impact on the environment as the square footage you occupy.
Not tiny, but we like to showcase all kinds of alternatives and I think it's healthy to break away from our usual every now and then. :)

Maya Brits maybe they are well informed and understand they are claiming to be off-grid (meaning you are not connected to the electrical grid) yet they are connected to the electrical grid. They use propane etc. drywall and insulation in a yurt. Very confusing. They just grew a beard and dreads and claim to be off grid and eco friendly. They just have a garden is all.

They are removing themselves from the physical distribution of needs that come with typical living arrangements and immersing themselves in a 'more' primitive lifestyle. You can invent whatever it means for yourself I suppose, but being hooked up to the Electric grid is an immediate diqualifier to actually being off gird, or "mostly off grid". This is my first time learning what a Yurt is, beautiful home and spacious; my husband own land, and purchasing a yurt is a great idea to look into. I enjoyed the vide, lots of creative idea, and a good home is what you make of it, and her love is all over that home; thanks for opening your beautiful home with us. I most certainly enjoyed it.

I think this is beautiful. The yurt is such a pleasing home size and shape and to put drywall and insulation is brilliant. They have great taste and truly have worked at making a very light on the land home. I just visited the Kogi Indians in Colombia who have a very strong belief about being good to the earth. Their houses are similar and they garden in a similar way. No livestock or really big torn up tracts. If they were able to afford 30 acres in rural CA (which is no where near the price of the crappiest home in the SF Bay Area), then more power to them. They are protecting and being great stewards and that is likely why they had the opportunity. Bless you both!! I'd love to learn more about your life.

They should line the walls with tapestry rugs and make it really a beautiful showcase the way the Mongolians do! Just love yurts! They are amazing!!!! So beautiful and easy to setup with little need for much and everything is typically cosmetic so it's very simple to do especially with nomadic farming. 💚💚💚💚💚💚stay green fingered 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
PS I would consider figuring out a way to offer heated flooring if you plan to stay put in one spot, only if that's an option. But for basic nomadic living that wouldn't work too easily unless the flooring could also be disassembled and reassembled every move. But it would be worth the luxury to have better heating especially in this cold climate.

That is truly s nice Yurt and something I could live in permanently, as it seems people always use it as a temporary dwelling until their real house is built
I think most people don't use yurts permanently because they aren't meant to be permanent structures, they breakdown within a couple years. So you have to replace and repair often. Making them more work and expense in the long run.
Since they are made to be easily taken down and relocated, it is possible people are concerned thieves might haul it away.
I don't like that you can't use the windows as emergency exits, and yurts usually only have one exit door. Oddly, people tend to put their wood burning stove next to the door, too!
They seem like wonderful people, and the home is beautiful! Now I have to ask, and hope someone will come back and answer: Are they safe from the fire situations in the state?

I chuckled at the oven after they showed her using a solar oven. I have a feeling that solar oven is not a part of their everyday cooking.

People live in ramshakle houses all over the US. Visit upstate NY, West Virginia, or any other rural part of the US. It's not really an unusual way to live. I wish they had forgone toxic drywall and insulation and opted for a natural hay insulation solution and clay walls. I also want to add that one can definitely live frugally and minimally in cities, towns and the countryside without having to resort to this sort of "build it from scratch and escape society" living. Sometimes working with what you already have is best.
I feel like they were the kind of people who bragged about not having a TV while watching netflix on their wi-fi in their city days. :-/
It also seems a lot of these products that do this are very well off financially. Yes, I hear people say they haven't had to for 6 years now, BUT they spend all their spare time on youtube lol.
@@brandyatracey3003 Rest assured there is a trust fund involved. It's the same as people purchasing brand new teslas and claiming they are "green" as opposed to buying a used honda with mad gas milage, that doesn't demand new resources for production, and endevoring to walk or bike as much as possible. They could have bought a foreclosed house or cabin in the country with acreage and farmed that. Doing things from scratch is always the least sustainable method.

Washing machines and dishwashers are so cheap on the used market...why not. But Im old school...I actually like to do the dishes by hand...and if there are guests...the after meal kitchen is the social focus area. Different strokes for different folks.

They are already hooked up to electricity and using gas... they don't move this yurt around all the time, so could have make a regular septic toilet/bathroom for more comfort, IMO. Overall though - beautiful place to live and raise kids!
Besides useing the grey water for the trees ,humanure is used after composting for the same (to feed the trees) , it's one of many options in permaculture ,instead of storing in an underground tank which then requires it to be delt with at sewage treatment facility.
from Mongolia it's our traditional home ...it's named "Ger"....we used it for tourist people....i'm so proud of you...it's so newly thing...i also looked our traditional yurt another video... then i think wow so amazing...you are so creative people

I’m a man and I’m looking into getting rid of most of my “stuff” and only keeping what I actually need then moving into something like a tiny house or equivalent. I’m single and prefer not to go it alone so if you are serious let me know lol. You never know, we might be meant for each other lol. Its gorgeous, but to call it a tiny house when I would estimate its about 3 times as big as my bricks and mortar house, is a bit of a stretch! Love yurts though.
As someone who lives at 6,300 feet in the northern sierra.... this is 100% the low sierra lol, probably 1,000 - 3,000 feet elevation.

Hey Bryce, how about expanding from just mainly your Tiny-house focus to also include more variety, such as alternative off grid technical solutions and alternative homes eg; geodesic dome homes, more on yurts, and also micro hydro electric schemes that provide enough power to power a home or two, from the adjacent stream, and also rocket stoves; go visit Ernie and Erica Wisner, the pioneers of early rocket stove development, also more on permaculture setups, (which Ernie and Erica Wisner also are interested in), and small wind turbines, and biomass anaerobic digesters that produce methane gas for cooking, and nitrogen rich fertilizer for the garden.- Anaerobic digesters are one solution for processing composting toilet waste. - and also video anything to do with off grid living, where clever unusual, alternative low impact, nature-friendly systems have been created to meet everyday living needs for off grid living ? And 1 metre high x 2 metre long raised veggie gardens, so you don't have to bend over, and also geothermal heated green houses that use the ambient ground temperature extracted from 4 metres below ground level to warm the air sufficiently enough for the green house to flourish in a snowy winter. Food for thought !!
