- In this video, Chris Creed of Afflictor Broadheads gives us some tips about bowhunting from ground blinds using traditional bows and compounds. There are a few things you need to consider when trying to use a ground blind to bow hunt and we're here to help.
The first tip is to clear the ground inside of the blind. A lot of times when you are ground blind hunting, shot opportunities come at closer distances so even the smallest noise can be devastating to your hunt. Keeping the ground clear allows you to make subtle movements without being detected.
The next thing to consider is comfort. You want to hunt for long periods of time right? Well being comfortable is a key factor to consider. Along with comfort comes choosing the correct chair to hunt with from a ground blind. If you are using a compound bow or traditional archery equipment, your chair choice is really important. You don't want anything with arms, or a back because if you have to shift to draw your bow, the arms may get in the way and the back of the chair is another thing that can make noise.
You also want to take note of the height of the chair because arrow clearance is one of the things that ruins a hunt quicker than anything from a ground blind. Your site window doesn't always show the bottom of the blind, but your arrow could potentially be pointed directly at the blind. So, get a chair that is going to allow you to clear the shooting window with your arrows.
The next thing to consider is your clothes. Typically when we talk about deer hunting we are talking about some type of camouflage. In ground blinds you want to wear black everything. At least from the waist up. Blending in to your surroundings is the key. Keep the windows closed as much as possible and the darkness will keep you hidden.
The last thing we want to touch on is shooting through the "shoot through" mesh. We do not recommend shooting through this mesh with any mechanical or hybrid broadheads, and if you are shooting fixed blades we still recommend practicing with these heads through the mesh to see if your arrow is experiencing any odd flight.
Take these tips into consideration when ground blind hunting, and you will be good to go! Good luck
