@@sameersaud8484 joaquin phoenix is a great actor one of the greats of this generation.i watched the film already full of expectation but sorry phoenix's joker isnt in ledger's level. Phoenix joker let me down.
Phoenix’s Joker uses a gun while Ledger’s Joker uses a knife. Both a product of the system and humanity that failed them, but Ledger’s Joker lost all faith and just wants to see the world burn while Phoenix’s Joker shows what can happen when you push a mentally unstable person too far. Two very different takes. Both are bloody brilliant who cares which is better. They’re both dam good.
Ledger is obviously perfect but Maggie deserves some credit too. She only has two words, but she nails her facial and physical acting. You can tell Rachel is trying come off as brave and unphased, but she's actually terrified.
@d R I really wish she got more credit as an actress just like her brother Jake. I mean yeah Jake is an incredible actor but come on people, let's give some roses to Maggie too for being such a great actress too
Let's face it: 95% of people would be crapping their pants in this situation, even bold men. Ledger's Joker is hands down one of the terrifying villains in cinema history, largely due to just how psychopathic he is. A lover of destruction, obsessed with savage behavior, and just evil to the core.
@@jimmyj5703 He could not get rid of the joker character. He could not sleep and then he fell mentally and took medicine. Somehow he died after taking too much medicine one day
I love the fact that both Gyllenhaal siblings, Maggie and Jake got the opportunity to work with Heath Ledger in each two different incredible movies before he passed away
The best thing about this scene is that Michael Caine actually had a line that he was supposed to say but he was actually so scared of Heath Ledger’s Joker that he forgot his line.
I don’t know how you can even compare Heath and Joaquin. They did two completely different spins on the character that we’re perfect in their own ways. Edit: Ok let me rephrase, you can’t really compare the movie and character directions. You can have your opinions about the actors, Ledger is still the best joker in my heart, but I still think both movies were phenomenal spins.
Heath’s Joker is clearly a bad guy, and is presented as such. Joaquin’s Joker isn’t a bad guy at all, but is forced to play the role of the bad guy due to how awfully he’s been treated by society all his life. One is a monster, the other is a man.
As much as I loved Joaquin performance, i still think Heath’s Joker was way more terrifying. Dude was a legitimate psychopathic masterminded nightmare.
no. you can’t argue one performance was acted or portrayed better. heath outdid this so much, he wins this in no comparison... joaquin was great but not even close to this insane performance
I LOVE how every single person's reactions to the Joker are 100% genuine. Nobody else is "acting" here. That's how awesome Heath Ledger was in this movie
I believe this scene was Maggie's first time seeing Heath in Joker makeup, and apparently when he first grabbed her face and she was looking off to the left, she was actually looking for the film crew to cut the scene because she was so frightened, but they kept rolling because it was such genuine reaction.
This was the first time the entire cast saw Heath in the Joker makeup, so yeah it was genuine reaction instead of premeditated performance. Maggie Gyllenhaal was reportedly very intimidated and uncomfortable by Heath's performance as well.
I get the feeling that was entirely ad-libbed too. Ledger killed this role. Just saw Phoenix's portral and man he killed it too. Its really not fair to compare the 2 actors because their roles are essentially two totally different men. Arthur is a broken man with no hope; realizing his place of importance in his black world. He is the tale of "All it takes is one bad day." Ledger is a terrorist who's mind has been snapped in two for many years and just wants utter chaos. Arthur wanted to feel important, powerful significant. Ledger wanted to feel like his major powerful actions were more or less pointless.
@@wilsonramirez5956 Phoenix's Joker felt euphoria after his kills. Ledger feels nothing during any of his kills. The emotion they exhume creates very distinctive differences for two men playing the same character.
Extra Spooky What i like about phoenix’s joker is that it plays very well into how ledger’s joker couldve have developed. Arthur was a broken man that found killing to be unwinding because he saw the world as unworthy of life. Ledger’s joker had his mind set on trying to prove that people will just eat at each other when chaos erupts, probably cause of how wronged he was by society, and he wanted to prove to everyone the injustice in our every actions he (and arthur fleck) saw. I feel like ledger’s joker is less an embodiment of chaos, and rather a carefully executed plan to introduce the chaos he had to go through to the world
"You remind me of my father. I hated my father." What's interesting is that this line might be the only true fragment of his actual back story that we get in the entire movie (not the contradicting scar stories).. You can tell by his line delivery that there is some real animosity there.. It's not just for theatrics.

The sad fact is Heath was the same age dying as Brandon Lee was in the Crow and they both outdid their performances in both of their movies before they passed on and are still remembered to this day!
The Dark Knight is probably one of the best super hero movie existed so far. The actors are so well picked and trained, watching this movie just makes me smile.
There’s something unsettling when you realize the Joker has multiple stories about his scars’ origins. It’s like he just wants to unsettle his victims in different ways, like jokes of his.
He uses the victim most comom social history (like young black boys who were beaten by their drunk parents or the girl who lost it all, he tries to use the victim history to mess with their minds).
Actually, almost every Joker is insane in his own way. Heath is charismatic, manipulating psychopath. Joaquin Phoenix is insane clown of his revenge and justice. Jack is trully funny Joker as he must be. And Jared's Joker is true trash 😃
@@j-casualI always saw Heath's Joker as an anarchist who wanted to put up a mirror on how corrupt Gotham City really is and used Harvey Dent as a puppet to prove that even someone who is good and powerful as him can be broken if you brought him down with a push. It was never about the money or the power or the fame, it was only in the message.
FenechGeish fox well what do you expect? He’s a normel guy with nothing to protect hin from batman’s suit and weapons. He can’t just get in there and fight, he has to play it smart.
At 2:20 when he says "I just want her to know that I don't care about the scars", it's incredible how Heath Ledger completely switches emotions between the first half and the second half of the sentence. It's a blink or you'll miss it moment, but when he says "I just want her to know...", you hear his voice almost trembling with sadness and sorrow, as if he truly was desperate to convince the made-up wife about still caring for her despite her scars. And as he says "...that I don't care about the scars", he is suddenly full of anger and rage. How do you even understand that you can switch emotions mid-sentence like this? Whether it's conscious or subconscious, it's next level acting. Just an incredible performance.
One thing most people didn't realize here is that Rachel knew who's the Batman. She also knew she had no chance surviving the fall from the building if Joker threw her. She still kept the secret and let Joker throw her. This gives her character a depth. After realizing this when I think that she died later in the story, it breaks my heart even more.
She also shakes her head 'No' when Joker tells Batman to take off his mask. She knows she might die in that moment, but she she will neither betray Batman nor allow him to betray himself. Great character work from Ms Gyllenhaal!

I came here to fucking say this. Dude saved your life and you're asking about the next dude in line. WTF!!! Well, it's a good thing she got roasted. Good riddance to bad rubbish.
It's a movie, realistically someone with her personality would say thank you but for the sake of tone the script doesn't require that the fictional character says it.
and she has to look into his eyes, but she was really scared to look at him, so she closed her eyes in this scene, and after when the jail scene comes up ledger asked bale to hit him for real and that was an 100 percentage original punches and beats and the claps with that chaotic look wasn't even scripted., the bomb blast was actually scripted to trigger when he comes out from the hospital but he did it inside the hospital itself with all those technicians and celebrities., and Nolan didn't utter a word., that's how playing and living a character differs
@@russellmuscle7434 That explains the massive plotholes of not only both of them surviving that massive fall, but also leaving Joker alone with the hostages
Him spilling the champagne is genius because I think fits with his philsophy that he's not interested in material wealth or gain (he also burned money), but exists solely to incite chaos, and of course, to fight Batman. He's driven by those things, and nothing else. He can't be bought, and the biggest irony of this movie is that Joker as a character is perhaps less corruptible than Batman.
I love the high quality of the dialogues in this film. I love how Rachel is not only a love interest who is represented weak or cowardly but intelligent and very courageous, compared to all the other people in the hall, shitting in their pants because there's the Joker. She did not hesitate to step forward despite all the fear he gives. I also love how the Joker is very quick-witted instead of being a complete mad man. Yes he's out of his mind actually, but he still used to be a normal person before he became Joker, so it's so reasonable that his actions are cleverly done. He knows how to get away from things, like grabbing Rachel while his men are distracting Batman and then faking he's going to shoot her with the gun but actually shooting towards the glass to break it and throwing her outside, so Batman can chase after her while Joker runs away. It would not be this awesome of a movie if Joker was not designed as a clever man. I'm not saying he is thinking before he does things, he's very random, but I think he used to be a very smart man in his past, who was exposed to wrong circumstances that got him mad, and right know he's just doing what he wants while his mind is empty but well working.
The Joker didn't divert Batman out the window so he could run away. Batman dove out the window leaving the Joker and all of his armed thugs with a hundred defenseless innocent bystanders! 😀😃🙃 Batman cared so much about Rachel that he dove out the window knowing that a psychopath would have plenty of time to hurt as many people as he wanted!
WILD WUNZ Machine Productions That’s true they are actually using a razor blade up against the strings of a cello, gives the music an unsettling feeling

Joaquin Phoenix's Joker is aimed at more mature audiences than Ledger's Joker

I get the feeling that was entirely ad-libbed too. Ledger killed this role. Just saw Phoenix's portral and man he killed it too. Its really not fair to compare the 2 actors because their roles are essentially two totally different men. Arthur is a broken man with no hope; realizing his place of importance in his black world. He is the tale of "All it takes is one bad day." Ledger is a terrorist who's mind has been snapped in two for many years and just wants utter chaos. Arthur wanted to feel important, powerful significant. Ledger wanted to feel like his major powerful actions were more or less pointless.
Extra Spooky agreed. Both killed it. But different type of films and roles to determine which actor did better.
I feel like ledger’s joker is less an embodiment of chaos, and rather a carefully executed plan to introduce the chaos he had to go through to the world
Pretty sure he just accidentally spilled it all but kept going with it.
"You remind me of my father. I hated my father."

Nah in the comics it's the same. The joker says that he always remembers it differently.

In the future people will think twice about taking this role even if they can get an offer
Joker is the Hamlet of our generation.
RIP Heath Ledger
Man i just saw he died in 2008 didnt know
Disgraceful how they just replace him and forget about him, no shout or nothing.

2:20 the background music is wonderful 👌👌
They said it was a cello string I believe and they rubbed from the bottom to the top to increase the sound of a climax. Such a genius idea.
Shepard tone
WILD WUNZ Machine Productions That’s true they are actually using a razor blade up against the strings of a cello, gives the music an unsettling feeling
