I love how Convulsion of Nature specifies to continue with the current duel. As if you would resolve it and then go "Well... my deck's upside-down now. Looks like we have to start over." 😂
I dont think it would be that hard to implement, they already have the animation showing what are the top cards in a deck they just need to keep that active at all times
I feel like Parasite Paracide is one of the last of what I call "Role Playing" effects. Other such cards include Steel Scorpion, Electric Lizard, Germ Infection, Paralyzing Potion, Dark Artist, Swordsman from a Distant Land, Crass and Dream Clown, the Metalmorph "Metal" Monsters. the "Moth" like of monsters, Shield and Sword, exc. Not all the "Role Playing" effects are bad, but they often just feel like... They were written by someone who plays TTRPGs instead of card games, and was expecting the game to be played like a TTRPG (Like Duelist Kingdom)
Wow this style of video takes me back to the "Why nobody plays the Egyptian god card" videos. I love all the wheels and sagas, and they are the best ongoing series imho. I know they are a lot of work to make, but a video like this, sprinkled in between, is absolute golden ❤
Mischief of the Time Goddess doesn't give you two battle phases. It skips the turn to your next battle phase, so the turn counter goes up by two. But you aren't getting two battle phases in one turn like the other cards.
Yeah while it's slightly different mechanically it's basically the same because you are going from Battle phase 1 to battle phase 2. But it is interesting that once per turn effects reset
Technically a big difference is that you can combine Mischief of the Time Goddess and Ages of Stars and Frost to have a two sets of conducting the battle phase twice.
Parasite Paracide has a fun ruling, specifically with Convulsions of Nature. Despite the effect of Convulsions of Nature to flip the decks over, Parasite Paracide will still resolve its effect to special summon itself and take 1000 damage.
@@AthosZ92 I just checked several wikis and it seems the ruling is that PP is always opposite to the rest of the deck. so face down in a deck of face up
One thing you missed: Convulsion of Nature was effectively banned in manual simulators like DuelingNetwork for the longest time, because there was no mechanic for flipping the deck upside down. So people would make the deck so their opponent would have to manually banish every card in their deck from the top so that they would all be in the correct order. Then they would use a card like MST to destroy the card so that their opponent would have to then put every card BACK into the deck zone face down. As a result using this card on a Manual Simulator would get you penalized by the moderation team and could lead to bans.
@@Peeves22 Curse of Fiend debuted in a filler episode of the anime in 2001, or 3 years after the first trap cards appeared in the manga. It was probably made that way for plot reasons.
Fun Fact: Yu-Jo Friendship is not a legal card in any official EU tournament. Since the card has never been printed over here, it, and all cards from its "set" are not legal. Not that it would be played if it was, but a neat little nugget of information.
Parasite Paracide was the reason why I stopped dueling my brother when we were kids. He stole the combo from the anime with Insect Barrier and I hated it. He also used Thousand Eyes Restrict to add to the beatdown.
Wave Motion Cannon was always an odd but fun one to me. It sits in spell/trap zone and when you choose to destroy it it blasts your opponent's LP by 1000 points for every turn that passed after you played it.
Since the introduction of xyz monsters they always tried to make the new monster cards a level up from any previous card. In the case of XYZ monsters they totally bypassed any level-based effect for example.
So I actually did play a deck that utilized Convulsion of Nature, though it was not a good deck by any means. The entire point of the deck was to turbo out Ma'at, guaranteeing you'd call at least one card correctly for his effect.
If they ever decide to make MD-exclusive cards, Parasite Paracide support could be a fun option for them to go with. It would at least let them avoid all the problems with putting your cards in your opponent's deck.
One funny irreparable game state can be achieved by combining these cards. Suppose both players are using Parasite Paracide, both with the same printing (set, rarity, artwork, etc) and both players are using the same sleeves. One player activates Convulsion of Nature, causing both decks to be flipped upside-down. Then, either player activates the Flip effect of Parasite Paracide. Parasite Paracide does not state it goes into the deck inverted, but that it goes in face-up. If Convulsion is activated prior to Parasite Paracide, it goes to follow that Paracide must go in with the SAME orientation as the cards in the deck. Thus, it has become impossible for either player to identify which Paracide is the one that activated its effect and which is the one has not. This will not happen in any situation and "no fun allowed" judges would probably say, "no, put the Parasite in face-down" but by everything written directly on the cards, this chain of effects would lead to an irreparable game state.
I really love the idea of parasite paracide, literally infecting your opp's deck with your cards is amazing flavor. It is a shame we're never gonna see more cards like it even if that's for the best.
A whole deck based on cards that infect the opponent's deck sounds wild. Good luck drawing the out when you can't stop drawing your opponent's cards lmao.
What I "love" about Parasite is that the only time it worked in the anime was when it shouldn't have worked. Weevil put it in Joey's deck, and had to an anime-only card to get it to activate on Joey's field. Even the anime had to cheat to get it to work.
Here's a little ruling nightmare: activate Grave Lure to turn an opponent's Parasite Paracide face-up in their deck, then activate your own Parasite Paracide and shuffle it face-up into the opponent's deck. Next time they draw a face-up Parasite Paracide, there won't be any way to know whose Parasite Paracide it is and whether it needs to be send to the GY or summoned to the field
Back in middle school, way back when the rules were still a little squidgy. I had an LOB Dark Magician that i kept in an acrylic sleeve. So I'd ask my opponent if i could keep it in the sleeve if i put it at the bottom of my deck. They'd usually agree. And then I'd pop Convulsion of Nature. The looks on their faces were priceless and still hilarious to think about over 20 years later.
One underappreciated feature of convulsion of nature is that it flips the order of the deck. So if you activate it after stacking cards to the bottom of the deck via saryuja or something similar, those cards will be on the top after convulsion resolves. there are only a few themes that really interact with deck stacking, but it can be really neat.
Just wanna say I haven't played YGO since pre covid and at this point long retired , but I still love to check out your videos every so often Dzeeff . Keep it up my man
Parasite Paracide was definitely a card I used as a joke before I decided on a playstyle/deck. I think its effect was only triggered once from when drawn by the opponent, but I still think it's funny to use on the opponent.
I remember playing Convulsion of Nature during the days of Dueling Network because it was just an auto win. Since there was no command to just flip the deck over, you had to just banish your entire deck 1 card at a time and for some reason no one wanted to stick around to resolve it.
Funny thing about the parasite whistle combo is how it basically has a massive nerf in MD and OCG. Even if you somehow manage to resolve it, chances are your opponent will simply search a certain roach instead of the parasite.
My Friend and I used convulsion of nature all the time at locals it was mostly a brick but it was funny watching my opponents reaction to the card. My Friend did use a playset of Mind crush and some other card to make some use out of it but it was mostly just for Fun.
It's interesting that Convulsion of Nature is seen as so weird. In Magic the Gathering, there are a lot of cards, like "Future Sight" or "Courser of Kruphix", that say "play with the top card of your library revealed" which is pretty much the same. The cards generally allow you to play that top card (sometimes as long as you can pay for it, sometimes only if it's a certain type). But it's implemented differently than Convulsion--you just turn over the top card, and once it leaves the deck, you turn over the next top card, and so on. Mechanically the same, but makes it less likely to accidentally see cards further down if the top cards get bumped slightly.
I love yu-Jo friendship because in no other card game do they have so many interesting cards that are completely insane and function out side the normal game. I think that idea is what makes yugioh such a uniquely fun game.
Convulsion of Nature is great in Royal Magical Library goat format decks. 3x Archfiend’s Oath and 3x Giant Trunade gets you 18 draws plus more from the spell cards you draw. Run it with Exodia and it can FTK but it takes ages. And I forgot to mention that your opponent will hate you.
The only one of these that I ever even experimented with was Convulsion. In tandem with Archfiend’s Oath when SPYRAL first debuted in TDIL, it made calling the top card of each player’s deck was silly easy.
parasite paracide was a duel links menace early on in duel links, cause of one of weevils skills, it would add 2 parasites to the opponents deck at the start of the duel
at my school kids thought exchange means you keep each other's cards forever. For example I still remember my classmate crying after a kid only kept a ryu-kishin in his hand and threw down an Exchange to take my classmate's dark magician and it was considered a forced permanent card trade. playground yugioh is vicious
Had a Parasite Paracide Player at a Locals here once, the way they solved the shuffle problem is that a judge shuffled for them. None of his opponents or the involved Judges had a Problem with that arrangement. He did make it in the Top 16 but lost there to a Trickster Burn Deck.
Did anybody ever use Convulsion of Nature in Spyral? Given their whole guess the top card of the opponent’s deck gimmick it seems like it could give you a leg up
Question would be extremely funny in decks like Karakuri with long complicated monster names or names with random numbers in them if it weren't for the fact that the ruling on Question allows you to describe card stats and doesn't force you to name it specifically.
that means curse of fiend was to be appropriately a quick spell, speed card level 2 in order to activate during standyby phase since after draw you go directly to standby then quickly main phase 1. its kind of how like when the card counter counter came out, it was printed without a counter for the trap card even though it countered counter cards which visually makes no sense because a regular trap card is a speed 2 whereas counter cards are speed 3
Once in a regional, my brother had a Six Samurai deck and he mained Question. Funny ruling he found out, you actually have to say the exact name of the card. One opponent called the judge cause he said "the light samurai", but didn't remember the exact name.
I feel that pre-errata darkness approaches would at least have a niche in that if you had no other option to deal with a opponent's link monster, you could use it to make it so they couldn't use their effect but like I said, this was a niche that other cards would do better
I'll go ahead and drop two cards that share a weird effect with no other cards: "Maiden of the Aqua" and "Gravekeeper's Priestess" can treat the field as "Umi" and "Necrovalley" respectively. While there are cards that treat themselves as Field Spells with a different name (namely "Umi" with cards like "A Legendary Ocean" or "Lemuria, the Forgotten City"), these Monsters are the only two cards apply this treatment to *the field itself*. For "Maiden of the Aqua" at least, this effect causes ruling cases for certain cards that depend on those Field Spells (for instance, you can't activate "Abyss-strom" if "Maiden of Aqua" is applying its effect, since the Trap card requires a face-up "Umi" for its cost).
Darkness Approaches with its original effect would be interesting and might even see some side board play in the modern era. Especially against some Link monsters.
One of my favorite games of all time is actually Yugioh World Championship 2008 (cheats enabled). Its not a perfect or graphically "pretty" game nor does it have the best sound track( only song I like from that game is the losing theme lol) but with the cheats enabled the game becomes a really fun and interesting way to duel.
It would be cool if you did a video about cards that are only banned in MD and nowhere else, like Convulsion, Dragoon, and Spellbinding Circle. I always found it interesting that there are a good handful of cards you can't even see in MD even though they are real cards.
Convulsion of nature is very useful for a god card deck if combined with "the true name" The true name basically has you call out the name of a card, draw from the deck, and if its the card you named, you special summon one of the god cards from the deck. With convulsion of nature, you would know exactly what card name to call out
I used to run Question in Morphtronics years ago just for an additional reborn, I would usually try my best to manipulate my graveyard with smartfon and other reborns to get my Formula synchron at the bottom and usually nobody would get it right.
I only ever used parasite paracide, it was a niche card to counter an opponents zombie deck because it made some zombies insect and it halted the combo of drawing cards whenever you special summon a zombie and the combo of banishing then summoning from graveyard and I dont even remember the combo in full but it put a full stop to it. Obvsl there are better cards for this but it was fun gambling with parasite paracide
I used to try and build a Convulsion of Nature Deck that used those draw cards as well as The True Name and some stall to get out Egyptian god cards and Horakhty/Holactie. It wasn’t great and it took a long time to guess the card names in the online duel system 😂
I remember Robbie kohl playing a community built deck for a garden city regional back in like 2016. He played convulsion of nature in the deck 😂 Wild thing to see at a regional
Ages of Stars and Frost seems really good. Two battle phases if I Dark Hole myself? Hello, dino deck! New Jurrac field spell is going to be CRAZY with that. Imagine having 5k atk on board, then this happens. "Sorry, opponent, but I actually DO have lethal on board. End Battle Phase, and attempt to enter Battle Phase." 🤣
Where is the wheel in this video
Also free my man Convulsion, I need him for my meta-defining Gishki strat.

Convulsion IS the wheel.
Convulsion sounds like a potentially interesting Master Duel event. Basically the Respect Play event except Convulsion is always active.
The wheel is the friends we made along the way

"Welp, guess my deck is upside down for the rest of the tournament"
Player 2: "Judge, they aren't letting me scoop."
Judge: "The card clearly says 'Continue with the current duel.'"
😂

having 3 copies of junk box as additional reborns helped a lot to get my grave the way I wanted it so I could resolve Question.
I love parasite paracide. I used it to mess with my friends so much during way back when. Still have it in my binder😁
OMG! A Dzeeff discussion video?!?! Is it 2019?
Darkness Approaches was errata'd because it could turn off link monsters, it would become more used if they kept it unchanged
He played convulsion of nature in the deck 😂
Wild thing to see at a regional
Pre errata Darkness Approaches would have been crazy in the Link era.
i wish Convulsion was in masterduel, it sounds like a fun card to bring to a friendly duel, it could also be fun for a small event
Old Dougg Zeeff is back let’s go!!
It's why I love casual duels because you'd see decks with these shenanigans. I play edopro if interested
Dzeeff contributing to lots of smiles this Friday
Its finally happened! Reset the Dzeef no wheel day counter!
