New owner of my first harley. A twin cam 88 03 dyna with 12K miles. It's been off the road a while and needs the carb cleaned. I HATE cleaning carbs but this video series with some of the best step by step instructions, details and everything so clearly done will help me greatly!! I know how to clean them but those brass jets etc give me PTSD. Thank you very much for such an awesome "how to" video!! You've earned yourself a new subscriber!
Hey Brother, I just wanted to say Thank You!! This video was dead on!! I have never rebuilt a carb before, but I used this video and my pause button like mad and low and behold...my baby, Roxanne is back on the road!! She's never ran better!!
Great instructional video! Thank you. This is the second time I’ve disassembled and cleaned my carb, but never knew I was missing an o-ring on my air/fuel needle until I watched your video.
Thanks for the detailed video of your attention to detail Rebuild. I’m gonna have to take my carburetor back off I’m having problems with it and I see a couple things that were missing from my carburetor from someone who had messed around with it previously and lost parts
Man as a first timer with rebuilding a carburetor you video saved me! I really appreciate how thorough you were and excellent close up video with excellent lighting made it so easy to follow your steps, I stopped and rewound your video until i did everything exactly like you did. Thank you! I just subscribed as well.
Nice job brother! Very articulate and detailed. I'm waiting on my CVP jet kit. Your instructional video helps me build the confidence to do the job. Thank you!
It's worth noting that a lot of your supposed #2 phillips screws are actually #2 JIS screws which have a different taper. Using a phillips screwdriver in a JIS screw increases the chance of the screwdriver camming out of the screw. Not sure why Harley was using Japanese Industrial Standard screws (JIS) but you can clearly see they are definitely JIS at 11:14 in the video by looking for the small recessed dot on the head of the screw. JIS screwdrivers are backwards compatible with phillips screws, not the other way around. Just make sure you're using the correct screwdriver because phillips screwdriver in JIS screws is VERY easy to strip out which probably happened to that one at the beginning of the video that appeared to be previously stripped/cammed out. Vessel makes some excellent JIS screwdrivers btw.
Great detailed explanation!! However being a long time wrench myself my experience with CV carbs that wasn't in the video. I don't apply oil to the diagram and exl pump. They tend to swell up. I also put white grease on all screws! Especially the bracket screw & bowl screws! I like to check the bowl for flatness and file any uneven areas! As well as the slide rails tend to have uneven areas and hit them with a jewelers file. Then buff them smooth. This tends to fix slide binding and chatter. I also polish the front of the slide. Instead of scribing marks on the mixture tube screw tube I use a sharpie. I like the red mixture screw knob !! Curious to know if the needle in the Kit is a 88-1200 needle which the same company sells separately? Just my two cents!
Most correct detailed video I've seen yet. But! I have a question? I've watched your video part 1 and 2 at least 5 times now. I pulled the carburetor off and drilled plug out removed everything and cleaned real good. after putting it together it ran great. But, after taking it on a 10 mile run to fully warm up engine , it started spitting and dying at a stop. I had to idle it up to around 1150-1200 rpm's to keep it running. when I got home, i tried adjusting the mixture screw and it made no difference even if I ran in all the way in to seat. I have had this thing off 5 times now trying fix but can find a thing I did wrong. I even replaced the intake rubber boot to the carburetor. It was real hard getting the carb. unseated from the intake too. 2006 FXSTB night train with 17,000 miles. I sprayed carb cleaner around intake and other areas of carb and nothing. You have any ideas that I might try? I'm a 70 yrs old Vet and was a auto mechanic for over 45 yrs. I've rebuilt a lot of carbs back in the 70's and 80's but I lost on this one. Can you help
after massively helping me with the cam chain tensioners videos, I thought I would check that I did my carb correctly, and it seems I did 😁 your input is a gift from the gods. Thank you 👍
Thanks for the video on this rebuild In the process of purchasing all the cv performance upgrade kit idle screw etc to do a full carb rebuild on my 03 Dyna low rider I have to re Jet as well I am running lean carb has never been touched so I figure what a great opportunity to rebuild rejet etc your Video makes it all possible Thanks again
Due to a back injury, my 98 Evo FatBoy has been sitting and now will start on starting fluid, but won't run on the carb. Your video will be a big help in the carb rebuild that I hope will get me back going. Good ole pump gas. I rum premium, but non-ethanol is very hard to find around here.
The carburetors get pretty sooty with the crankcase breather that is routed through the air cleaner and directed into the carb inlet. It also leaves deposits on the intake valves and piston tops. They sell kits to vent to atmosphere or a discreetly mounted catch can. The bikes run better without the hot and oily air coming in through the intake.
true, but when I do removal and install demo's i generally do it by the book along with design faults. What you see here has more to do with backfiring due to a failing sensor than a breather return.
you think you went the wrong direction on the float pin? There is an arrow and I've heard you shouldn't take it out the wrong way, doing mine now. Amazing video !
Great Video, just rebuilt my '92 super glide , ordered a kit from AMAZON, although they didnt have the jet sizes i installed everything from the kit, really wish i watched your video first, I didn't clean some parts with the polish like you showed, wish i did.......degreased everything , carb clean and aired everything reassembled, but have a problem with the accelerator nozzle not spraying??? Saw on line there should be a ball bearing in the float body that should be loose.......Din't check that , any suggestions? Thanx again
Cool Great looks like long time subscriber here Thanks for all your tutorials but @ about 4:12 mins in removing float bowl pin ..locks like the arrow pointing IS THE DIRECTION Pins Is REMOVED NOT INSTALLED ? asking bc I herd one can break the ears off easily if tried to remove the wrong Direction ..so if you Can Please conform or advise iam in the process of rebuilding my CV ..Thanks again much appreciated Happy Wrenching
When I'm having issues I'm going to look u up. I rebuilt my 2001 carb and it wouldn't idle and was running rough. I cleaned everything and replaced my air/fuel mix screw to a finger turn style. anyway at the end of this video I figured out the problem, I forgot to install the load top end spring. How stupid is that went to my work table and its sitting on the side. can't believe I did that. BTW- I have 95" top end from the 88 it came with you think with that and a true duel rineheart exhaust I should go up to a 200 jet or stay stock?
Im careful about simply recommending cleaners for the carb in a tank. Many can attack the aluminum. Id recommend googling a specific cleaner for carbs in an ultrasonic tank for aluminum and purchase that.
@@delorean1 Oh it was missing alright. No idea how the dammed thing was even running before. Been so long since the float needle got replaced I can't go back and ask where tf it went. Either way. Float needle needs replacement yet again... this is fun!... right?

Probably one of the best step by step videos I’ve seen in a long time! Well done
Thanks, glad it was helpful.
Classic Wrench sorry if I’ve missed it but what did you use to clean and polish all the small brass and metal pieces ?

Outstanding video. No unnecessary yapping, just straight on instructions. Great job, thanks for taking the effort to help us out.
Glad to help.
Clear, concise, well-filmed and narrated. Absolutely outstanding and on par with college-level presentation (at least)! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!

@Jamie Genesis Definitely, been watching on Flixzone for months myself :)

Just drain the bowl when ut sits up and youll have no issues.
Fantastic video. Thanks! What was the cause do you think of the initial back firing? (Anyone can answer). I may have missed that.

Yeah but they look ugly!! Lol. Keeping the air filter clean prevents this!

Correct I broke the boss long time ago learned the hard way as it couldn't be fixed!!
Hey Classic Wrench, really top notch rebuild and teaching method. Thank you sir! Subbed!

Do you have a show manual showing the carb diagram. I believe I showed the bearings and springs in the re-assembly.
How do you know if the main diaphragm is faulty ? great concise video btw.
Visible cracks... hear a leak when depressing....

I'll be doing my 2000 night train carb, is it the same carb? 😊
Another great video!
What’s the solution you use for the ultrasonic cleaner?
Im careful about simply recommending cleaners for the carb in a tank. Many can attack the aluminum. Id recommend googling a specific cleaner for carbs in an ultrasonic tank for aluminum and purchase that.
Top notch. Love this channel
Thanks.
Thanks brother great job!
Glad you enjoyed it.
Muy buen trabajo 🎉
Very informative 😊
0:07 anyone notice the carburetor pissing fuel onto his work surface? hahahahah
Great video
Great video! :) Where can I find that list of recommended jets for different setups?
I have a big bore kit and I think my low speed jet is too small.
it was on the paper in the video.
Damn EXCELLENT VIDEO! THUMBS UP!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you.,
Are those 20$ carb rebulid kits on Ebay or Amazon any good or where should I shop?
Its hit and miss. Dont cheap out on the cheapest one possible and check the reviews of the dealer.. When in doubt go with the dealer.
Americans! Stop fucking shopping at ollies, dollar store bargain basement crap. Have y'all no pride in your stuff/work ethic
Very throughout..
Very informative..
Thanks ..
Youre welcome.

Thanks for the visit
I've had trouble cleaning parts, looks like the polish you used was effective, what is that?

Great job very detailed
Thank you!
Great job! Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
What did you lube the diaphragm with
A very light application of remoil
I'm not in agreement with that.
Me either. I've always heard oil attacks rubber parts. Use dielectric grease(made of silicone) or silicone lube spray. Correct mee if im wrong
