Thank you Bro I followed you line by line on my CV for my 04 Heritage 88 I watched ALOT of CV vids but yours is the most thorough and you take your time which allowed me to stop the video and complete my task I had cleaned my carb but I missed a couple things I’m 67 and I need all the help I can get!🤙🏻🙏🏼😂
The power of TH-cam! Here I am - over a year after you uploaded this - taking apart the carb on my 95k mile 1993 FLHS, and your video was the perfect help!
Super handy info! I really like that relocation of the choke, think I'll do that on my dyna. I've also seen that they make plastic sliders for those carbs too and them being so light helps the carb to be a little more responsive.
Keeping the oem internal parts, (freshen them up reuse) was best found for reliable performance from my cv carb on my 1340 Chinese crap either didn't fit or had no size shown on the jet's etc, with good filter K&N smooth in traffic low speed then smooth all the way 80mph took me 4 times to rebuild it get it bang on with help from youtube people like you doing these very helpful vids many cheers 👍
Thanks Rap, looks like I have that Dnyo-jet needle kit. It slid apart during disassembly and I wasn't shur where the washers stacked up. I'm used to a Linkert or Bendix but I'm starting to see the advantages of the CV.
Seems a clear explanation of this carb ( and generally). I'm late in the game learning all this detail and this was really helpful. Have this carb on on a 2006 Road King 88" motor rebuilt with S&S cam & pinion gears, cams, to 95", that I just removed a gear driven MagnaCharger from (all sitting in a rigid frame springer). Long story, but mostly wanted the 'skinny' look back. I bought it, rode it as a 2nd 'toy' to a H-D Slim/now Deluxe - it was fun. But by now for me, crazy fun. Thanks again.
You would have to decide if that’s what you want to do. I would use it if you can. See my video. Evo ignition pickup coil and VOES explanation troubleshooting Harley Motor th-cam.com/video/vSLHxrZo96g/w-d-xo.html
Ok, so this hose coming out of the carb was initially linked to the vacuum fuel valve. Have already checked with the manual. Nothing about voes in the book for dyna 2000. Got rid of it since switched to ordinary petcock. No need for the line. But found your vid very interesting.
It does not come pre-adjusted. You have to check it. I check everything! I never assume that when I buy something, even from a reputable company, that it’s correct. I buy pistons from Wiseco I check them. I buy something from S&S. I check it. It may end up being right, but you still have to check it. Thank you for watching and if you haven’t, please like and subscribe.
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Well worth the new subscription......Please do a segment about the operation of the V.O.E.S. switch ; its function , and how to ground the proper wire ; when not using it........
Looks like you have the Dyno Jet kit in your carb. The stock carb doesn't have an adjustable needle, and the lil washers go on the bottom of the E-clip to slightly raise the needle out of the main jet, not on top of the E-clip. The CV carb is a damn good carb.
You are correct that I have that kit. However, the washers go on top of the E-clip and hold it down so that it doesn’t bounce around when the bike is running. The E-clip sets the height not the washers. Thank you for watching and if you haven’t, please subscribe.
I like the way float bowl screws have always been made of some type of lead so the screw head distorts when you put a Phillips screwdriver even close to them.
@Rap's Garage Shop it's usually for when you are in the mountains at different elevations. It's just handy to have . Plus they have finger adjustments screw for the idle and air fuel mixture. I love mine
@@gaknskk I understand what you’re saying but I live at sea level and have ridden my bike into the mountains and never had a problem. I’ve seen the idle mixture screw with the thumb wheel and I think I have a new one I’ve never installed. Thanks for your input.
The carb kit I bought has two gaskets for the float bowl. One has a ring that goes around the accelerator pump nozzle and the other doesn’t. Do I use them both? I’ve cleaned my carb before and never used both, but have had a slight leak when the bike is not running.
I do try and gather all the information I can from the different sources and of course one your source is right up there. Recently I put a CV carburetor on a 96 cubic inch Softail my neighbor had that I had helped him build or rebuild from a wrecked bike or it was burnt I mean. It got into a rough patch he lost his son and he really needed something to take his mind off and it took us good 3 months. It ran fine for a couple years but then had a problem with a couple of codes and it wouldn't take any throttle the I know maybe I've spoke to you about this before I know I've spoke to other people but being of well older person sometimes I forget things. Anyway I put a carburetor on it the CV carburetor I had a couple of carburetor bodies laying around and rebuild it he bought the parts but when it was hot it would dribble gas out of the overflow when it was sitting on the side stand after you turned it off maybe it was even dribbling before. So I tried putting the last or adjusting the float to have less gas in the float in the carburetor bowl. In the end I took another upper section which I thought the or the float shuts off with the rubber little valve maybe that brass fitting was not the best shall we say. I did that just the other day hopefully it won't leak anymore cuz I didn't want to keep taking or keep reducing the amount of gas in the float bowl I'm sure it would run leaner if I understand it by doing that. Otherwise the bike runs really well you said it runs better than when it had a fuel injection system on it. And I certainly do like the CV carburetors well maybe it's cuz I understand them the best. I've worked on SNS and su and Bendix. I did like the Bendix back from the shovelhead but that's before there was anything else around.
@@Rapsgarage yeah that's one thing I thought also considering this tank had been in a fire of course it was cleaned up and repainted but you can push air into the tank and the vent works also the gas cap. I have yet to get a really really warm but we'll see how this upper section mated to the other bowl works.
The e-clip sets the height of the needle in the different grooves in the needle. You have to put the shims on top (as I did in this video) so the needle doesn’t move up and down from vibration. This procedure is not for a stock OEM needle. This is for the aftermarket needle. The way I did this in the video is correct. Thank you for watching and let me know if I can help you further.
@@landoncardwell. The clip can raise and lower the needle. After you choose the clip position you insert the needle into the slide and put the washers on top of the clip. After that you install the plastic piece. This holds the needle from moving up and down from vibration when inserted.
@@Rapsgarage I understand what you're saying but yost kit and cv kits say to put it on the bottom side to raise the needle and use the e clip to adjust
I washed it in the solvent tank. It's the new school solvent... hot water with some kind of soap in it. Then I spray 2+2 carb cleaner through it, then blow high pressure through it.
Sir, can you use the Dow Corning O ring grease in the carb gaskets, such as the carb to back plate gasket and the carb to air cleaner gasket, which are non-rubber, or is it used strictly for the rubber items like the O rings? Thx

@Rap's Garage Shop nah, given the choice I'd choose a mikuni HSR and CV HD carburetor over any S&S but that's just me. Ive learned the secrets of the CV and how to make them perform well and get exceptional fuel economy out of it. My 89" stroker gets 50 mpg and hauls ass doing it
Good or bad I like an emulsion tube that has multiple holes along the side I noticed some aftermarket manufactured ones have no holes at all I just feel it runs better with the multiple holes maybe it's just me I don't know. But for my 80 cubic inch Evo yeah 170 or 175 main jet in an n72 needle. I tried the 1988 Sportster needle in ran it for many years but I was hoping I'd get a little better mileage with the other needle
I’d try a small drill bit and a wood screw. Drill a small hole, insert the screw then use something to pry up on the screw to pull it out. You can also use a good penetrating oil and let it soak overnight.
