My mixed race daughter and my fairly dark black wife spent some time near the end of the year in the Netherlands, and 100% there is some very very ingrain racist stuff with their christmas stuff. 99% of the time, the Dutch are totally accepting and dont appear to have a racist bone in their bodies. There is even a younger generation of mixed kids (the Dutch men seem to be very into African women). But when it comes to Sinterklaas, they cannot let it go. There is some movement towards it being "ash" instead of Sinterklaas being black, but its slow and the older dutch push back. The daughter is going to school there and it still gets to her.
It's an emotional culture war thing that certain people can't let go. It's sad because the appearance of the Black Pete character was already proposed to change back in the 60s. It isn't Christmas btw. Sinterklaas is 5th of December.
@@peterengelen2794 you can date interracially without having a questionable race based preference and certainly without fetishizing any racial demographic.
14:14 Really? After all the bs this show put its audience through? I can't imagine _this_ was the step too far. It was wild from left field, but nothing really seemed like a deal-breaker.
Oh it’s racist as hell. It just wasn’t maliciously so. It’s not done to make fun of black people. It’s just like how in the states you have Santa’s helper be little people. Like if little people would suddenly find it offensive so you just started dressing adults like elves and little people would be like ‘the fuck..? You making fun of us, bro?’. Also it’s stopping for the most part these days except for it having turned into a culture war between traditionalists and anti black-pete people. But having grown up here and being a brown person myself, weird as it was.. nobody gave a fuck till the whole blackface thing blew over from the US and UK in recent years. It was always just about the candy.
Maliciousness depends on intent. Are you being a dick based on some stupid old tradition, which inadvertently leads to people being hurt without you being aware of it or are you doing it specifically to hurt or make fun of that group of people. The point is to stop doing it when you become aware of it. Which is what's going on over here now. The people on one side that are going 'wait, holy shit. Why did we think this was normal' vs the people that go 'stop bitching about it it's our tradition and if you don't like it fuck off back to Afrika'. @@TheMerovingienne
Fell down a chimney my ass 🤣🤣🤣
He did. That is the story.
10:17 that ending with the guy dying was so insane. Perfect example of “dark comedy”.
Atlanta has very few peers.
It’s truly a once every decade or so type of work of art.
Props to Earn for finally growing the balls to just do what needs to be done. Be the bad guy on Al’s behalf
The Liam Neeson reference was fucking hilarious 🤣

Read back what you wrote and see if it makes sense.

Wait.....''(the Dutch men seem to be very into African women)'' says a guy with a ''mixed race daughter and my fairly dark black wife''?!

It’s wild to think they could screw over the shoe runner guy like that and it be legal.

How is racism 'non-malicious'?
