    New to grant writing? Here's how you can build a profitable career in grant writing without prior experience: www.learngrantwriting.org/become-a-paid-grant-writer/

    I actually got into grant writing because I enjoy writing, and I noticed that, on freelancing sites such as Upwork, less people go after those opportunities than other assignments, so I wanted to try it out for myself. I really liked academic writing and writing literature reviews. This work seemed suited to me. I was able to land some conversations with people who were willing to give me a chance. I'm watching your videos to fill in the gaps and figure it out as I go along. I might try the Informational Interview because it's a good idea. However, Upwork was the quickest way for me to try out grant writing immediately. A lot of your videos are in my action plan to learn and ramp up. I'm definitely feeling that imposture syndrome as I go through my list of videos!!

      If something works, go at it full steam! That said, we find a lot of downward pressure is placed on the prices of grant writers on UpWork. The info interview method will open up much larger contracts so you can have less clients, higher profit, and more joy in your new business.
      I'd recommend watching this video as your next action step. Then feel free to DM me on LinkedIn (Meredith) with any questions. We can def help you move through that imposter syndrome! www.learngrantwriting.org/become-a-paid-grant-writer/

      Did you have mock samples to present to people on Upwork? I'm very interested in trying this out to start building my portfolio. I love writing as well and have been researching grant writing for a few weeks now.

      @@goldengirl7625 in my case, no, but that is a really good idea in my opinion and, in some cases, they may very well require them. My first assignment that I negotiated with them was to research. I convinced them i can do the research, identify 100 opportunities and then whittle them down to 20 and then 2-6. I told them that this process increases the likelihood of receiving funding. From there I was invited to write on their behalf.

      @@goldengirl7625 we don't recommend using UpWork for building your client base. We're all about earning while learning, getting paid gigs to build your portfolio. Here's a training on how: www.learngrantwriting.org/become-a-paid-grant-writer/

    I wrote a grant for my mother and her friend with their assistance of gathering needed data. I worked as grant administrator for three years at two different agencies, as well as statistics for the grants. I had some experience writing business plans also. I enjoy the process but need some training to get my footing since I haven’t worked in grants or nonprofits for years. I also like the flexibility of the role.

    In order to start freelancing should you have the whole business licensing process prior?

    • @LearnGrantWriting
      @LearnGrantWriting  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      We talk about this in great detail in our online grant writing course. We encourage members to freelance their first $15k to confirm you like the work and to use those earnings to pay for business set up costs. Once hitting that milestone, we then encourage setting up an LLC and teach each step via our Rapid Business Formation Method. Biggest bit of advice we have right now is to not get hung up business setup details and to instead focus on finding a client that will pay you, delivering the work, having fun, and getting paid!

      Thank you for highlighting that point. Indeed, while our program offers certification in grant writing, we also emphasize the importance of practical experience and hands-on learning. Our certification serves as a foundation, but we recognize that real-world application and continuous learning are essential for success in grant writing. We appreciate your perspective and value your input on the importance of combining certification with practical experience.
