The penny I placed on the line when Coronation car Mk1 No.1222 reversed at Dalmuir West on 1st September 1962 now lies on a section of tramrail on my hearthstone.

Just came across this video by accident. What a wonderful find! Was that Sgt. Munroe I saw directing traffic outside John Brown's Shipyards? Must keep this video in my favourites file so that I can watch it over and over. Thanks so much for posting this. Great footage and memories.

@@alrxanderwylie6512 Ahh, perhaps that's who it was. I thought the man was a bit heavy set for Munroe. Munroe was posted at John Brown's for as long as I can remember until 1964, when I think he retired, so McDonald must've been his replacement. Thanks for the info. I'll be sure to check out your other videos.

My mother is 96 in 2019. She told me the trams were nick named the silent death because they made so little noise and pedestrians couldn't hear them coming.

@@alrxanderwylie6512 I was born in 1958 and don't remember trams even tho I must've been carried on them many times. I've often wondered whether my mother was confusing trams with trolley buses - which I do remember - but reading about these incidents makes me think she was right. Oddly enough over 40 years after trams were removed from Glasgow I was in Amsterdam as a tourist and came close to being crushed by one when I wandered casually across the road looking in the wrong direction and only at the last second did I realise the unfamiliar background noise I was aware of was actually the tram driver sounding his horn telling me to get to hell out of the way. He never slowed down.

@@phillipecook3227 thanks for reply I also was at Amsterdam and no messing with fare dodgers inspectors come on no ticket arrested immediately and taken to
      police station
Anyway hope you are enjoying my videos
Some more great memorilabe videos to be uploaded Thank you Alrx 🙋

The trams were anything but silent - it was the trolley buses which were "the silent death" as they had rubber tyres and electric motors so people not looking both ways could not hear them coming.
