    idk this one is different, Cody baited him in first by ducking down, making him punch low at Cody so he could then explode upward with a hook and have Assuncao's punch fall too low. This hook seemed more calculated than the ones he was throwing in his 3 previous fights

    • @DarthBalsamic
      @DarthBalsamic 3 ปีที่แล้ว +116

      I actually felt this way as well. Most forget that Cody trained under the famous Mark Henry this time for his striking. I'm quite sure Henry noticed this tendency, which is why we likely don't see Cody doing this in certain exchanges in this fight, and only in this type of situation. I think this is a set up by Garbrandt now after he was shown this glaring weakness in his game that got him three consecutive losses. What Mark Henry does with fighters, which I've heard spoken about more than once(Cormier being the most recent since he's using him for his next fight), was he takes what fighters use without changing them too much. He tweaks their habits and weaknesses, to make them the best version of themselves. I wouldn't be suprised if Cody was exposed to this weakness by Henry, and simply taught to use it to his advantage in certain scenarios to avoid messing up his thinking and process.
      Assuncao is a seasoned fighter, so I'm sure he noticed this glaring weakness in Cody's game as well, which is how he fell into this trap in the first place. Notice Cody didn't make this mistake in the middle of the ring, and changed his movement at the fence; which of course is new. His speed has also increased which was likely part of the plan.
      I could be wrong be here, but if Cody continues this way then we'll know the opening is merely a trap for certain people now, or he'll simply not leave himself open like that with others. Either way, I'm sure Mark Henry spotted this weakness and is helping him with it. Surely the upper level fighters will try to exploit this weakness as Assuncao tried to do, and the key is to see what Cody does then.

    Cody kicked the shit out of Assuncao lead leg, which made Assuncao change his stance. Cody saw that and threw a well timed hammer to end the fight. Give Cody some credit.

    • @alisteroidthecheatertestos964
      @alisteroidthecheatertestos964 3 ปีที่แล้ว +82

      chef-3381 Cody definitely deserves some credit for throwing more leg kicks then he ever has in fights. However, someone that has knockout power like Moraes, Yan, and maybe even Aldo might land that big shot. Cody drops his hands way too low and ultimately is the reason why he ends up losing. I do think he baited Assauncao in from the first round leading up to the second. Cody still has a lot to work on.

    assan missed due to him swingin where cody's head was, which was the plan of cody to have his head that low. i think what people where referring to was the speed and conservative style shown before he attempted to open up as,... assun....asunsow... the opponents defense. that specific instance he had chose to stick out his head to give a target so that the opponent could bit which is why his hands where so low and since he had to quickly swing his arm from that position he had no time to raze his guard which really didn't matter since he was attempting to dodge the low punch by raising his head with his punch. this instance was not the same as the other times as he had shown some improvements in defence before this having his hands up at all points and not getting into a brawl which is where he tends to drop his hands.

    awesome breakdown. I find that a lot of mma analysts miss simple boxing fundamentals. Understandable though, theres so many things to worry about during an mma fight.

    I had a boxing coach once that would tape your hand to your head if you kept dropping it. Worked like a charm.

    1000% Agree and he reminds me something my trainer used to always tell me you can make it very far with a weak Foundation but eventually you will crumble but if you make your foundation solid if you learn the fundamentals and really build them properly.. you will lose because small miniscule mistakes

    As it concerns Cody, I think he’s having trouble in those brief moments between having his guard up and moving his head freely to avoid punches. It helped him in this fight, as the low hands are what drew the hook, and when he slipped it he was able to get off clean. I think he’s getting better at knowing when to stick with a traditional boxing guard vs knowing when he can get away with slipping and ripping. Basically, I wanna see the O’malley fight but Uncle John Uncle Bobby Dana isn’t gonna burn two top contenders like that.
