The weight cut would be an easy solution. Weigh them twice, once the day before like they do right now, once right before the fight. A dehydrated fighter can't fight effectively, forcing them into the correct weight class to perform optimally.
Until you get some psycho that tries to have a big weight cut and keeps it off for 24 hours causing their kidneys and brain to meltdown. How many main events getting cancelled would it take before the promoter just lies about it? Losing money or fighter safety, which one do you think is more important to the promoter?
@@asimpson164 Any person that did attempt something like that would get destroyed in the ring because they don't have time to rehydrate and recover. There would be 0 benefit to attempting a last minute huge weight cut.
@@purpletoad352 That Chinese guy did it and died for it. I'm just saying that it is a way to game that system and that it is possible. I don't know that we would ever see it happen but it could because someone would try to rehydrate as much as they could between last weigh in and the walk out. I don't know how they do hydration testing but if One FC is doing that now and the way their fighters look it seems like there might be a way to get the results you want without being as hydrated as much as the test would indicate. The best way will probably be some combination over a longer time.
@Alex Amaya that's why weight cutting must be declared illegal... Everyone should fight in their actual form, and in order to combat this problem you can just make the weights the same night of the fight.
@@argacc9434 Yeah exactly. Or someone who's even played sports. I can easily go down 1 weight class by changing my diet and exercise routine to change my "natural form". I can understand the argument that was brought up on the JRE and this video that maybe have a percentage limit to prevent people's internal organs from shutting down but if theres weight classes there'll be weight cutting.
This video should be called “Turns out all martial sports in history have rules for a reason and trying to reinvent the wheel was a dangerous idea from the beginning.”
@@MrMattnis1 Oh.. I'm not familiar with this so let me clarify: when someone says "I dunno" in his opening statement that automatically makes him a douche?
Be fair they gave cyborg an exemption for a drug that os only used to stop the effects or steroids or natural male test from growing body hair etc. So she's either a he or on the sauce
I would love to see the UFC and all other promotions implement One's anti-weight cutting rules. It is a harsh and dangerous practice and there is no advantage to it. Everyone is cutting weight just so they won't be the one guy at a disadvantage. Not having fighters dehydrate to cut weight also gives them more stamina since they are often still recovering after rehydrating right up to the start of the fight. This leads to more exciting fights for the viewers and less fighters completely gassing-out by the end of round 1.
@@ruzreuben9755 I don't know if the procedure has changed since I made this comment, but I know at least at one point they were checking their weight right up to near the fight. I was to say about 1 or 2 hours before the fight? That was (at least at that time) the difference between most promotions and "walking weight" weigh-in procedures: you wouldn't have a chance to rehydrate and recover. And if your weight was still cut that close to the fight, you would be a dead man walking since oftentimes fighters can barely stand up during the weigh-in when they are cutting in other promotions. If they changed to just checking urine hydration level, that is different from what it used to be and does seem like it could be cheated even if it would be challenging.
Looking at boxing has always made me wonder if weight cutting doesn't increase the chance of brain trauma. Most boxers who die of a cerebral hemorrhage shortly after a fight a guys from the smaller weight classes. You'd think it would be the heavier guys because their punches have more power but it's not. That makes me wonder if they aren't still dehydrated somewhat and that as a result their brain loses some of the impact absorption that a proper level of hydration would give them.
Great video. Legit commentary, good editing, very informative, and prime choice of clips. Good video all around, literally commenting just to improve stats 😄
@Your Nan According to what or who? If it was according to TH-cam's rules, anyone could've reported it, and the video would've been taken down already.
Jabib Galt according to the FCC. Any paid product placement must be disclosed in any visual media. Obviously I was joking here because I’m pretty positive they didn’t get paid to include the brand name “Vaseline” in their video It’s why you’ll hear “this video is brought to you by X (VPN company, Audible, etc.)” in many videos
I think there needs to be a weigh in just before the fight. The game seems to be aiming alot towards cutting as much as possible since some fighters can be 20 pounds heavier after the weigh in so fighters can essentially compete a couple weight classes lower then they actually are, which goes a long way towards defeating the purpose of such small weight classes
@@roejogan5212 What would be the point of weight cutting then, if your opponent does it too? Then it's just two dehydrated malnourished dudes that can't even use the skills they have because of their physical state. And if your opponent didn't cut weight, you immediately lost. So in the end fighters would just stop weight cutting. There would be no point in doing that anymore.
@@roejogan5212 If you are literally 1 pound over the weight limit then yeah you can drop that even on the day of the fight. But then it's such a little amount that it doesn't matter anyway. The point is to stop weight cutting where you drop a massive amount for the weigh-in and gain it back by the time of the fight. You can't do that if the weigh-in is like 2 hours before the fight. If you starve and dehydrate yourself to be 10 pounds lighter 2 hours before the fight, you'll be in dogshit shape by the time the fight starts. So none would do it because it would be beyond stupid and you'd just guarantee yourself a loss.
No one would say MMA is the least gay sport. Their broad, rippling shoulders glistening with vaseline, wearing tiny speedos as they grab each others junk and roll around scissoring each other.
Thanks for bringing One’s water testing to light. Many people have no clue what it is and no one knows that the weight classes are different in One. One nearly quit as a company following the death their fighter. UFC and other orgs need to figure it out. Eddie is shorter than his competition but he’s very muscular. 190 walk around weight and 170 fight weight makes more sense than UFC fighters walking around at 190 and fighting at 155. Eddie is smaller than his competition but look at Conor fighting at 145 against Aldo. I’d love to see the actual fight weight of the UFC’s best.
Yeah. Perriera was 220 against Izzy, at 185 pound limit. That's just ridiculous. Imagine the damage to his own kidneys, not just the unfair size advantage. For anyone to give up 18 pounds against another world class opponent is crazy.
Nothing safer than good old fight. Maybe they could ask wear gloves, baggy shorts, and not be allowed to kick it wrestle. Oh wait that's boxing, then we should ban head shots too then it would be even safer than boxing
Tank Abbott was the first one to use the gloves they use now . I disagreed with many of his political positions but from every report I've seen or heard about the man had character in truck loads and refused to be released from a PoW camp in Vietnam if his fellow soldiers wouldn't be released. Also, when a woman in one of his political rallies tried to bash Barack Obama McCain immediately refuted her comments and defended Obama's character and faith. I don't mean... a few hours later in a press statement... I mean right then to her face with a microphone in the middle of a Republican campaign rally. That takes integrity.

The weight cut would be an easy solution. Weigh them twice, once the day before like they do right now, once right before the fight. A dehydrated fighter can't fight effectively, forcing them into the correct weight class to perform optimally.
thats actually genius
that’s what we do in my high school wrestling matches lmfao no way they haven’t implemented this in professional matches

They should do another weigh-in immediately before the fight. Wanna weight cut? Fine, but that's exactly how you're fightin'.
@Alex Amaya weight cutting is cheating. If there's a limit of 120 kg and you're 145 the night of the night of the Match you should be disqualified
@Alex Amaya that's why weight cutting must be declared illegal... Everyone should fight in their actual form, and in order to combat this problem you can just make the weights the same night of the fight.
This sounds like it’s coming from someone who’s never had to cut weight for competition

It doesn't work though, it only measures urine hydration and can easily be cheated
@@BiggieTrismegistus agreed I mean look it up (cfs is lower) which is a cushion around the brain to protect it.

@@thereisnopandemic What you want is a death match.
If they do that, people will still weight cut and it'll be even more dangerous for the fighters
@@neemnoa303 people did it in Boxing when the weigh ins were day-of, and people will pursue any advantage.
Then there will be no 135 And 145 division. Everyone will go up 1-2 weight class higher
