    I have 4c hair but i still waited a full month before washing to be sure. I decided to instead wipe my scalp down with a rag and soapy shampoo water. I did that every week to combat itchyness. But now that Im getting into the 3rd month i wash every 1-2 weeks

    The longest I can go is 2 weeks... no longer or I’m miserable... I never understood anyone not wasting their hair for months on end, the odor alone is enough to make you want to wash it🥴

    I started locs and my loctician said to wait 3 weeks before washing my hair. I made it 13 days. My scalp said “I don’t care about your hairstyle. You know I have expectations, and this rose water spritz and castor oil ain’t it! Wash me, or ELSE!” My scalp was flaking and sooooo itchy, and I had to wash it. No more locs 🤷🏽‍♀️ but my scalp is happy again!

    I washed mine 2 weeks in lol. My scalp health is vital to healthy locs and I won't retwist every time but I want to because between the shrinkage and different textures I have going on....it is a no go to just let them be flowing however they want to. I keep my scalp and locs moisturized. Also, its really helpful to use a stocking cap or net to wash your starter locs. Be gentle lol. Happy washing ladies 💆🏾‍♀️

      How do I use a stocking cap to wash please?

    • @Meshaunjay
      @Meshaunjay 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@remathe-beloved I've tried a stocking cap and net. The net is better for me but you may choose to try whichever works out best for you. So what you'd do is place the stocking cap or netted cap (basically a pair of fishnet stockings or something with wide enough holes) over all of your locs. It's going to be tight, but don't worry. Use your shampoo of choice and gently sweep your scalp. Do not "wash"/ manipulate your locs lol. Rinse throughly, you don't want to leave behind residue. When you're done remove the cap and try using a microfiber like towel these are awesome for keeping lint out of your head and locs and it helps move the water away from your hair quickly and evenly without rubbing. Hope this helps.

    I’ve had my microlocs for 5 weeks, my first re-tie this weekend. My hair is really soft and prone to slippage so i haven’t washed it but i hydrate my hair with aloe water everyday and oil my scalp once a week. The itching and build up has been basically nonexistent.

    I have starter locs with 3c-4a hair. However I’m letting my loctitan take care of it once a month. It’s a little flaky but my hair is short and can’t handle it. When it gets longer I’ll be able to do it but I can go a month without washing it

    You are soooo right wash your hair. After that second week of my retwist I'm struggling to at least make that third week to wash my hair I'm four months into my loc journey and I have washed my hair five times since July 2023. If I have to do a retwist it's a soft one. Keeping a clean and healthy scalp is key to having a good loc journey.
    Btw your locs are beautiful ❤️ thank you for sharing ❤️

    Speaking in specific to African Americans (because that's what I am and I can't speak for other hair types) you should wait just two weeks to let your hair tangle a bit and after that wash your hair once a week. We sweat every day and out scalp is constantly producing it's natural oils, the more you wait to wash your scalp the more likely that dirt and build up has time to dry up and harden, I think once a week or every weeks should be the time frame most should target, waiting anymore than a month to wash your hair is just nasty lol

    Tomorrow makes 2 wks since I've had my starter locs.& I was gonna try to make it to a mth until washing it & letting my loctician do it. But the way my scalp is set up(dandruff/itchy scalp) I'm gonna have to go ahead & wash it tomorrow at exactly 2wks. I was rubbing all in my scalp while listening to this video lol. Bc my head was itching. I said yeah I'm definitely washing it tomorrow. I can't hold out until a mth. When I was relaxed& loose natural I would wash every 2wks. So that's gonna have to cont to be my routine.

    Beautiful!!! I’m dying to wash my hair only because the person who started my Locs used spritz. She told me I couldn’t wash them and that i needed to wait at least 6 weeks. It’s irritating me. It’s been a month.

    • @jylesashome3570
      @jylesashome3570  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes never risk the health of your locs for the health of your scalp. And spritz is a huge no go it contains alcohol and is very drying and irritating. Now disclaimer I retwisted after I washed each time. I have 4c hair. With 4 c hair mines has extreme shrinkage. So washing and just letting it go is not an option.

I’ve had my locs for 3 months already and have 3b/3c hair and now she’s saying washing it every 3 weeks was too much and they aren’t loced buuuut they are doing something 😅. Idk it’s just crazy to say not to wash for 3 months especially being that it’s hot and I sweat a lot.

      I've had starter locks for 2 months now and naturally have straight hair and a dry scalp. So I've been washing and conditioning more often maybe like every week and a half. When I wash Most of them unravel immediately once they get wet so i have to get them retwisted right after. But then I hear people saying too many retwist is bad.

    • @jylesashome3570
      @jylesashome3570  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I know I am late to reply but here is the thing. You have to know your hair. This fear of washing and retwisting to fifteen came from people manipulating their hair to often which caused it to ruin out. When your Locs are in the baby stages they are going to unravel its all apart of the process. For me in the first 4 months I retwisted every two weeks after that I retwisted once a month. I wouldn’t manipulate my hair much in between. I didn’t keep tight styles in and I moisturized my hair every day. But that’s because I know what my hair needs to thrive. Do what you need to do to maintain a healthy scalp and do what works for you.

      In my personal none professional and unprovoked opinion, it doesn’t matter. The loc process is just that a process…. It takes time regardless of what you do. It’s a journey for the long haul. If you wash “too soon” and some locs unravel just redo the process for those and keep it pushing. If you wait too long just re twist what needs to be re twisted. Figure out what works for you, your hair, and lifestyle. But don’t stress! Go with the flow and love your hair regardless!
