      I had an interesting experience with a Porsche dealer , actually the UK importer
      I had just come from a Lotus Exige and was thinking of trying a GT3 , after all
      Ive never read a bad road test . He asked what cars were on my list , and that
      was another more powerful Exige or the GT3. Now what he said amazed me,
      he said coming from the Lotus u will find the GT3 fat and lazy , u will hate it
      (???????) so I asked what he would recommend , he said the best drivers car
      was the Cayman S , I borrowed one for a day , and enjoyed it but when it came
      to putting money down I got a second Exige . Unusual experience and Ive
      still not driven a GT3 !

    In Dubai, the weather is very hot. Cars such as Lamborghini, Ferrari and McLaren suffer from many problems and their prices go down a lot after two years of use. As for the Porsche 911, you use it every day without problems and it maintains its price, and sometimes the price increases.

      Excellent dialog with informative detail Enjoyed it a lot Have had McLarens for 10 years and a GT3 Cup car same time Done lots of tracking Have a 2022 Turbo S Lightweight for over a year now that I custom speced from factory The Sport Exhaust switch appears worthless 992’s deserve being dissed for their “vacuum cleaner” sounding exhaust
      Remedy : get a Cargraphic Exhaust Valve Controller installed which will cost $695 US plus simple install labor You can open the exhaust flaps with the push of a button
      I had an expensive custom exhaust system installed in the Turbo S which barely increased exhaust sound level due to the OEM Sport Exhaust not really increasing volume even over 4,000 to redline
      Regarding McLarens vs a 992 Turbo S yes the Macs are more nimble Both have their virtues over the other Both are terrific , fast ,and engineering marvels

    I Got an older 911 T/S last year, and my networking/rally group is filled with 720's, lambos (Hurr, Aventador, etc), GT3's (some RS's) BMW M5 comps do well. No mods on mine yet, but I can smoke ,most stock lambos, and in the twistys, esp mountain roads, the Porsches really shine, it's freaky-good. and for me, and and a lot of us, the turns are where the fun is. In rallys over 50 cars, we find that half, or more, are Porsches. Some people mod turbos, exhaust, methanol injection, and get really great sound and extra HP/speed, but I'm going for more stability and traction first. (springs, sway bars, spacers, slightly lower, and air diffusion).
    You can't beat the comfort level in the T/S, seats, A/C, some noise reduction. a lot of the other cars are punishing over long drives. People have moved from Lambo, and GT3 RS's to the T/S. A lot of conversations now about how 720's are coming into a good price range now since they are being (are?) discontinued for 765 (I think). The comfort in the 720's is ok and you can fit if you're 6'4" (unlike Lambos).
    Maintenance wise, no contest: Porsche.
    Ferrari's sit in garages. Rarely do the owners drive them, esp to the limits as on some certain rallys.
    Hell of a hobby and way to build business connections.

    Backseats are very useful, we’ve got (3) 911 cars in my family/siblings and we always talk about how we use the back seats and how glad we are to have them.
    Also, there is a diffuser under the car, take your jack and jack the car up and take a look, it can’t be as visible from the back, because the engine is there

    Rich, the tire temp is displayed to the right of the tach. You can toggle through the screen using the rotary push button on the steering wheel. "Vehicle general" is displaying now.I believe it is the next screen. Tubi X-pipes on the exhaust will solve your sound issue and you don't have to mess with cats etc.

    This was the exact video I was looking for, but not for the reason you think. I wanted in-depth, real world driving from someone that has done long road trips in a 992T. Having it compared to a McLaren is just icing on the cake, but I really came to hear you speak about the 992, and I'm impressed. I'm planning to buy one and take the ALCAN to Alaska, so it's almost a bonus you're Canadian LOL! MPG is a major factor for me and the research I've done, you can really hypermile this (28 - 30mpg), but more importantly, if you're running those "rips" and still getting good MPG's, then the reality is mixed MPG is still phenomenal for what it is.
    I appreciate this video. Instant subscribe.

    Really enjoyed your review. I had a 992 4S and had similar issues that you spoke about. I’ve now had 2 Mclarens a 2021 GT and now an Artura and I do think that both drive better than the 992. You said so many that resonated with me as the 992 is a more subtle car which I miss. Where ever I go in my Mclaren, it gets noticed. But I do love the McLaren more from a daily driving perspective. Great review

    Being a car nut myself I really enjoyed this video. I remember when you first bought this car and briefly talked about it. I was the one who mentioned the likely range increase due to the new 8 speed PDK. I'm a former truck driver so range is important to me. As for the tire pressure sensor 0 to 100 I'm guessing percentage? That would make me nervous on a hot day running soft compound meat. My sedan with 40 series tires static psi is 37 but can get up to 41 on hot days. Again, awesome video. Much thanks!

      Important stuff! lots of google searches on last rally about tire pressure. Temp variation and altitude over 8k ft. my BF with highly modded 911 t/s felt squishy in the back end. Over 170mph it felt to loose, turns at 2-3x speed rating not comfortable. But over-tuned and pushing 800 wheel hp on a a T/S is wild. (sound is AMAZING, snap-crackle-pop, and the hisssss of the blowout valves....wow!). We're prob switching to cup2 from M. pilot super sports. I am now skill-limited. time for racing school.
      Range....meh....rally is limited by the thirsty....v12s and redonkulous vette's and stock racers. we usually stop as a group. (fun when 40+ super cars roll in to a rural gas station, kids, cameras, etc.). I get 290 mi normal driving and 200 mi hammer-down.

    Note: speaking to his review . Porsches like this are the highest markup for a mass produced car . 911s have like a 100% mark up and could be sold for 1/2 price and make same money by selling tons off them but porsche gets huge money overcharging which IS a better biz model . I heard a porsche marketing executive speak to why porsches although being high performance are priced so high for mass produced cars as noted hear . He basically said porsche owners enjoy the snob appeal that overpricing brings as well as the boring aspect mentions that appeals to those not wanting to be too peacockish .

    Fantastic video. The reason pre-996 911s sounded and felt like a vault door when closing is because they all had solid window frames. I don't care how much weight they added, I would pay to get them back optionally, on my 911s. Seriously, you could hear and clearly identify without looking, a pre-996 door slamming a block away. No other car sounded like an earlier 911 door closing. A solid "clink" with zero reverberation or rattle. Like closing the hatch on a Seawolf submarine... Unfortunately, I don't believe any current cars are made with solid window frames anymore...

Disagree (my opinion): I did spec mine with interior carbon, I actually like the start/stop switch and ride, love the interior trim, my dealer is amazing and have had no issues (car is only 3 months old). The complex gauge is a pain, but there is an option to minimize the screens which is very helpful. I love this car and will put lots of miles on it. Love your videos, thanks.

    Didn't watch this specific video but I have seen and worked on plenty of both cars. I can confidently say that Mclarens are garbage for the price, build quality is abysmal. They straight up have poorly design parts. Porsche have their problems, specially because they are pushing the technology envelope a lot but in general are a much more solid product.

Best quote I ever heard is the 911 is a one seat car just for the driver. Porsche now charges a premium for everything and they can get it. Hard to believe you cant open the rear hood and see the engine :).

Looking for something fast and fun but still practical with back seats and a trunk that I can daily drive. The RS5 seems like it might be more livable but the performance numbers on the M3 are very impressive especially for a sports sedan under 100k USD.
    Also great comprehensive review of the 911 Turbo S. Amazing car.

    I have a 2021 Turbo S. Sport design package gives it a little more aero look but I like the subtlety of the car. Only car guys know what this thing does. It is an absolute pleasure to drive. My only issue is that I’m not a big fan of the Burmeister sound. Launch is insane.

    911 gauges were all visible from 1999 until the 992 gen that brought back classic horizontal interior layout and blocking gauges. Doors great in 1998 w 993, modern era liquid cooled 1999 996 door close sound is weak, had hoped they’d made it solid (apparently not) since then. Carbon fiber only important to reduce weight in real areas, for interior style I’d rather have wood. My GSF has carbon fiber for interior decor (snooze). Flat six motors sound best when NOT turbo. With 991.2 they all became turbo and the extra plumbing muffles engine sounds, and no, exhaust cannot replace intake and other engine sounds. Back seat has been very usable with my two kids throughout elementary and now for middle n high school, although convertible makes back seat usable w top down for those taller in a way a coupe or Targa cannot. Oh and the sounds with top down!! McLaren service I am impressed to hear. LOVE to hear from owners who really drive them on vigorous tours.

    Thank you for the video.
    @1:20 Thanks for going over fuel economy first. Every car I own I test and figure out the cruise controls best speed for best economy with a semi trailer draft (except the Volt, draft has no effect) .
    Volt Gen1 gasoline override 62mph => 2.38gal/100,
    Caprice 78 50mph (no overdrive) => 4.41
    Mazdaspeed6 65mph in 6th => 3.03
    626 Gen5 55mph => 2.51
    Skylark GS Gen6 was wierd 80mph & 60 had same RPM and gal/100, so I just drove at 80
    Probe was bad with fuel. Only got 5.26, so I adjusted and held RPM at a higher constant and it actually got better gal/100
    Porsche and Corvettes are the most efficient.
    @:20 Also, it's just just TH-cam, minus the "S"

    Dude, I have a 992 911 Turbo S and was laughing through this vid because you most of the cons spot on.
    However, I think you’re missing a bottom panel. Mine has panels that cover the entire bottom of the car - the engine is definitely not exposed.

    Agree on many of these (as a GT3 owner). Based on several of your hates, you’d be happier in a GT3 Touring or 911 Sport Classic, than a turbo. Both those cars are made to solve those problems and are perfect cars for rally’s.
    The Turbo is not the lightweight, carbon laden, aero optimized, race inspired trim line. The turbo has always been the heavy, comfort sports car for old guys to brag about it’s power output at stoplights. The GT cars are the real drivers cars. Saying that with love lol.
    The Sport Classic is absolute gem, and very rare. You are sort of seeking a car that looks like a track car but made for road going. That’s the GT3 touring.
    In regards to the value, its just that McLaren is a crazy good value for how much car you get. Blows my mind that you get a carbon tub in even their $200k car. Porsche is priced squarely for what it is but still manages to overdeliver and put a smile on your face. Pure fun factor.

      It's crazy how much one can do to any car. I'd say 1/2 the cars in a given rally are heavily modded. Problem is passing emissions tests and newer "connected" cars getting tunes reset by manufacturer. Friend purposely fried the wifi/sat modem in is custom built 1100hp vette engine because chevy dials in nightly and would reset his tune. Daily emails about how they cant connect to his car...lol. Got to have a mechanic in your weekly life now. dead battery...tune lost. And the pesky popo not "appreciating" custom exhaust. ( although most cops are car nuts and love to check out the crazy mods). If your year is up for emissions test (USA)....time to put on the original exhaust and run a stock tune. Not a cheap hobby!

    The TurboS is not the right Porsche to compare with a McLaren 720, concerning driving abilities. Take an 992 GTRS2 and that thing drives loops around the MCLaren in every situation, even after 120km/h, the MC Laren only sees the back-lights. And if you go on a racing-circuit, with the TurboS or more with the 992GTRS2 you have fun the hole day, the McLaren is death after 3 hours, meaning the reliability of a Porsche is much higher. And there are even Carbon-options at Porsches...

    You Should put a mild tune and better exaust system that boosts performance but not too noisy that was one of your complaints on the car, Porsche have to suffocate that F6 engine because of regulations, that would make the car jump in power to about 700 bhp and make it chase McLaren's above 120Kph better.

    Looks like Porsche tried to emulate the vintage look, but failed on practicality, especially the gauge cluster. The analogue gauges were pretty much all visible in my air cooled 911. My love list was pretty much the same as yours, save for 4WS. On the highway, the aero of the spoiler would literally press it into the road even harder, whilst driving it like I stole it of course. Nice review!
