Also, not everyone who uses TH-cam has a TH-cam account. Last point, when it comes to TH-cam, it really depends on your nitch. Some platforms do better with certain subject matters.
I completely agree. Blogging is kinda dead nowadays. I checked famous Instagrammer blogs and most posts have less them 5 comments, while they receive hundreds of comments on their TH-cam videos and Instagram posts

Thanks Lydia! I sometimes wonder if I overthink & don't end up getting anything done in the end. One thing at a time! Keep it as simple as possible. I need to remember that!
I’m working on adding a blog because I found myself writing out drafts to prep for TH-cam videos. Those can go on a blog! So I think I can have both without doubling the work involved. We’ll see!

You eagerly laid out excellent, detailed and thought provoking information. You're so easy on the ears and eyes, for that matter. Thank you! thank you!
Thanks for this video. I started a blog last year and I love it. It was slow at first but now I'm seeing 5-6 followers per day. I thought I had to start a TH-cam channel to connect with my blog and I just couldn't make it fit in with my lifestyle. I don't have camera confidence and a noisy dog is definitely not a good recording partner! I'm now decided that I will just keep with my blog (I adore writing) and focus more on promoting my content.
I'm doing both! I started with TH-cam, but decided I wanted to have another avenue to share information and my stories. But I totally agree with the amount of time when you are first starting a blog! There is a lot to learn from building a site to figuring out what your posts will look like and how to stand apart. I love both so far though and plan to keep up both...oh yeah, and I still work a fulltime job!
Thank you Gillian, your video was helpful for me: I’ve been a TH-camr for 6 years and my time is so limited for making videos and I’m considering writing a blog instead. I think that you’re right about blogging being more useful for someone who doesn’t have big chunks of time available, compared to TH-cam, which quite honestly eats up what little free time I do have available to me.

Great discussion. I have both - a food blog and a TH-cam channel. I find they are both so different, but for me TH-cam is definitely the way to go for my dancing as I can really explain movement and connect with my audience. Thanks for the tips!
How I see it is that a blog is for people who are comfortable to write only and publish what they write, a podcast is for people who want to talk only and don't wish to appear on camera or deal with any kind of video editing and youtube is for people who like to produce videos. So there are several means for people to publish content whether it is in written format, audio format or video format.
This video has given me a clue I was missing. It's just a detail, but it totally gives a whole new perspective to my strategy. Most of the whole video info, I was aware of that, have been a blogger, etc. But still, I was missing certain important details, that gave me some ideas... thank you !
There are not many video's / articles that go over this topic at the level of depth you did. Great analysis and I also agree that video will become a more popular medium as time goes on and the internet becomes faster and cheaper
I started a blog, then started a TH-cam channel and I’m already way behind on blog posts. Posting videos is more fun and enjoyable for me, so I going all in on my channel. Whereas my blog has basically been a waste of time and money, however I still learned a lot getting it set up so its all good, I just can’t do both. (I don’t know why I thought I could) I only have time for one right now. Thanks for confirming what I already know now. 😁

For max exposure I’m using Tube+blog+Facebook. It’s a very slow way to start, trying to stick in one type of social media. Especially when doing things in Finnish, targeting people >20 years old... Thanks for the great videos! ❤️
My TH-cam channel has been profitable from day 1 and I think that says everything about the value in the skill set you can leverage vs a blog. If you can film and produce video you’ll always have a job.
Trell West Your channel has been profitable since day one? Wow. That seems really rare to me or that you are an exception to the rule. You must have a crazy huge specialized niche or have lots of great content or stuff to sell and promote. I'm curious as heck now, how did you manage to start being profitable from day one? It almost sounds way too good to be true, but if you built followings on the other social media platforms and told your followers you were launching a TH-cam channel, then maybe they were already primed and ready to join and you had or have something lots of people need or want. What was your secret to launching a channel that was profitable from day one? And was it a lot of good profit right away or do you just mean you started making money right away but in very small increments while you built your subscriber list? Or like everyone else out there, did you already have a course set up and just used your YT channel to promote and sell your course? How did you do it and how much profit, ballpark, have you generated in the process since you launched your channel? Inquiring minds want to know.☺
Maxjohan1983 in the last 7 days I’ve driven 500+ clicks to an affiliated product at 0.32 cents a click and 12 conversions at $16.00 for each.. Do the math. Subscribers is not the best metric to measure.
Faith and Family Farmhouse I replied above. In short, I pitched content to brands before making videos. I affiliated all my videos with affiliate links. I seo’d the heck out of titles. I rank really well in search. My first video has 60k+ views! I drove traffic to the brand in question that I got paid $500 for the video to make.
That's a great idea! Would love to know more about this. I struggle even getting collabs from other TH-camrs, let alone getting brands to sponsor my videos. And I have die hard fans now who watch every single video (even though it is niche).
Okay first off, I LOVE LOVE LOVE your hair!! Gorgeous!! I've been doing the blogging for almost half of this year (from about late August till now) just (slowly) working on building my platform and Instagram, and I so agree with you- it's a LOT of work! Now that I'm earning enough money on sponsored posts, I'm going full-time to really dig into ads because from my friends in the food blogger world at least, it is quite easy to have most of your income come from ads once you have the number of sessions! My goal is to really start on the TH-cam part as well in the New Year now that I am full-time- it was difficult balancing all five platforms (blog, Pinterest- HUGE for food bloggers, really important, Instagram, Facebook, and TH-cam), and this video really helped give me an outline of what to expect as I grow and improve videos!! So thank you, Gillian!! Really amazing stuff!

You explain things so clearly! I've done both too and I love the visual component that TH-cam has. I personally put more work into making videos but it's fun constantly applying things I learned from photography and enjoy learning how to edit. I don't do anything crazy fancy and I have a simple vlog channel but it's a nice process/break from medical school :)

I am so glad that I found your channel, you are well articulated and your advice is always to the point. I wish I had known about these platforms years ago and 'How To...' for TH-cam. Recently, my sister and me we want to self-publish a book on non-fiction topics, and we decided to go with setting up a YT channel and an Instagram to display our ebooks. I will be sharing this video with her and with friends. Thank you so much, Gillian.
Thank you so much for this great information Gillian, it was very informative. You explained everything so well. I am encouraged to push on with my ideas and goals after seeing this video. I really appreciate the in depth description of the pros and cons with blogging vs TH-cam. Of course, I plan to do both in the order that you suggested!!!! I will probably start with the blog first then TH-cam.

All the best with it! I recently did a video about starting your own TH-cam channel. I am a year in and have learnt so much and developed so much already. You got this!
Now you have shed some light on this despite I might not own my contend on TH-cam, I will start off with TH-cam channel because that's how I am going to make my money in order for me to start blogging
I already have 2 relatively successful (engaged viewers and making $). Now I want to blog to expand my brand but I feel like it will take so much time away from my growing channels. I’m a lil lost because it all seems super overwhelming esp since I still put a lot of time into getting content ready for my channel plus editing which can take forever... I just want to start and see how it goes. Thanks for the vid
Thankyou so much for your insight into this! I did start a blog earlier this year but because my passion is self care and natural, healthy lifestyle I think it would be more beneficial to connect and share with people via YT, so That’s why I have just uploaded my very First TH-cam video! Merry Christmas and look forward to learning more from you 😀
Thanks so much for this video! You so clearly laid out what I was wrestling with for a couple of years. Although I set up the blog, I hesitated so long about listing my first post, I never did it. But I did start a TH-cam channel a couple of months ago. I'm not yet getting the audience I hoped for, but I know it takes time and patience...and I love making the Barbie doll videos for kids that I've been doing. So, although I'm just a novice...my advice is to make sure you do what you love!
As usual you're info is not only timely but really indepth. I'm always amazed at how much value you give for free on your channel that others charge. I hope all that watch you really understand this and appreciate all you share with us more. BTW Like others have mentioned, LOVE the hair!
This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! Thank you so much Gillian! I've been binging on your videos this morning. I am so inspired by you. I am a new subscriber and looking forward to hearing more from you. Thank you for all of the helpful content.
I always wonder which one I should do. I wanna create content about music recording, equipment. How to set it up etc and it makes more sense to make videos rather than blogs however I love the fact that you can do blogs from the comfort of your couch and you don’t have to worry about makeup hair etc
I am not a writer so youtube it is, having a slow start but will work on getting more content out there, I love how you break down the pros and cons for YT and blog...
I really think that TH-cam would be the best for me. Editing is the part that scares me the most I did one video a year ago took me nearly 8hrs to edit and post. Made me rethink if I actually will be able to get the hang of that. We shall see!!
This was helpful. While I am already making money on TH-cam, I have always been slightly concerned about not having complete control over my videos, so I am well on my way to starting a blog
I really liked the points you presented. They are making me examine a bit deeper which route to take and even what to expect if I choose to do both a blog and TH-cam. Thank you for this video!
I really enjoyed hearing from you. I'm working on creating a TH-cam channel really very new at this. you answered several questions I needed to understand. thank you. Mya
Thank you for this video very informative I'm something of an introvert subduing like a TH-cam video seems really daunting but it's definitely something I want to consider in the future and definitely somehow tied into a Blog
Wow! Such amazing information. Thank you so much. I haven't come across a youtuber that was so open with their financial info and time info. Thank you!
Great tips! I think that youtube is super popular right now, but I think that a blog is perfect to also combine with a blog or website. I love how you go over the pros and cons. I am going to use my youtube videos to add as content on my website.
Great comparison !! Thanks for putting so much thought into it. I'm concerned about parts of my content being learned then "re-packaged" as someone elses. I notice this happens quite a lot, without the original creator getting credit. So, I'm thinking about possible alternatives to mitigate that possibility.
I love writing, but I enjoy the process of making videos for TH-cam. I would love to get to make some money with my channel, but that isn't why I make videos. I make them to be a part of the community of YT and to hold myself accountable in my goals. Thanks for the info!
An insightful and comprehensive video as always, thank you Gillian! I wonder what the difference is in terms of frequency/quantity of blog articles required to build an audience vs. that of TH-cam? 💛
Awesome video, and very thorough. I personally prefer blogging, because it suits my personality type, and I'm a writer, so that aspect comes naturally. 😃💝

I'm planning on trying out TH-cam, as it is the best platform for myself & the type of content I would like to share. However writing feels easier, so I feel very conflicted! I was looking at perhaps adding a blog/website, but then there's email marketing to think about, and you can't forget about the other social media platforms! There's only a certain amount of time in a day, in a week, in a month.. Considering that some people just do emails as a full-time job for a company, it's overbearing to assume that we can do it all. As for saving everything, that can be costly. Video files take up a lot of memory on a computer, hard drive and cloud storage units. I plan to save my videos for a couple of weeks or a couple of months at tops, but then I'll delete it. Just like everything in life, you have to be willing to let it go. If you have to start over again, then that's ok. TH-cam cannot press delete on your personality.
You explain this so well, I learn alot from this video. I am thinking of becoming a yutuber, and after listening to you, this video certainly confirms it. Thanks million for sharing this video.
I wanted to start a blog before TH-cam but it seemed easier to just film and upload videos. I still think about having a blog just so people have somewhere to go to but my main focus this year was just my channel.
Thanks for posting this vid. I've been on the fence for a while now. Definitely helpful and thorough. 👍🏻 Maybe a future video idea for you would be how you manage your channel and your family. How do you plan out your week to best utilize the time you have?
Wow, this is incredibly timely, and so thoroughly explained! I just found your channel yesterday, and have been binging since! Newly subscribed, thank you!
Whewww! I was waiting to see you grab some water. 😂 Thanks so much for giving a lot of valuable information in this video. These important facts are things I was wondering about. Not sure why u would get any dislikes, After all this great information. Yes, I took notes and will check out more of your videos because you did a great job of explaining the questions in my head.
So helpful! Thank you for this video! We are excited to see our community and channel grow in 2019! Grateful and amazed at the opportunities this day and age!
Thank you, for the work you do; it has been incredibly helpful for me to understand these mediums that are new, to me. I'm considering getting involved with some aspect of this new digital reality, to earn extra money. And, as a practical matter, you gave me a clue, to the possibilities of what I was considering, of which, I am truly grateful.
Hi Gillian, I just wanted to say a big thank you for this video. It answered a lot of my questions and couldn't have come in a better time for me. Much appreciated!
Thank you so much for sharing this! I decided to do both YT and a blog a little while back and didn't really realize how much time goes into all the editing/ initial creation. We also just had a baby 4 months ago and now I am the sole source of income for our family so that has added even more time constraints. So I'm at the point you were talking about where I have made a few articles/videos but am losing steam. I'm working through this and look forward to sharing my growth with you as I continue to move forward and am so grateful for all the awesome tips you continue to share on your channel. I have decided that I will most likely make my videos and articles correlate moving forward and provide back-links to both in an effort to help cut down on the amount of time that goes into it and will let you know how it goes :)
This episode is sooo interesting, informative, and helpful to me since I have been posting my own blogs on several websites. Keep it up Ms. Perkins....you are helping a lot of people..
Thank you for the wonderful way in which you enumerated the advantages and the disadvantages of both. I think that a blog reaches a limited audience, specially in countries where literacy is limited. I wanted to start a blog for patient education but realized that most of my target audience will find it difficult to read. Instead, a video presentation will be much more easy for them to understand, specially when delivered in their native language.
Another great one Gillian--thanks so much! Everything you said makes sense. You're certainly right that there's a lot of work involved in getting a blog up and running. I paid a fair price for a course on how to do that, and I spent hours going through it. I would rate it as an excellent course, and I think I got value for my money. However, it seems that every time I go through a lesson I have to go find some additional software to really have the latest and greatest. I'll probably go with TH-cam initially and perhaps branch out to blogging later. I still don't completely understand how I monitize those first few videos, but I'll keep studying and maybe it'll sink in. I understand how you monitize, but I don't understand how you initially get the ball rolling.
Hi Gillian, that was a really comprehensive analysis of the pros and cons of these two platforms. I am thinking about doing both over time. Thanks for the tips
Location always sat in my head as relating to a brick and mortar store. You might have just blown my mind by bringing that concept to the digital space. Thanks for the ah-ha moment.
Great video! 👍 You explain it really well! 😀 We actually startet BOTH TH-cam and a blog a year ago! We focus on TH-cam, but once we post the video we write some of the content down and put it in a blog. We reuse the thumnail as the first picture in the blog, and add a few extra pictures. In the end of the blog text, we add the video from TH-cam (so they can wacth it from our blog). It takes a little bit of extra time, but we think we reach more people that way. Any one else doing TH-cam and blog too?😀 Blessings from Norway! 🇳🇴
So I know I’m pretty late watching this video from when you actually posted this video...!!! But lately I been really thinking 🤔💭 about starting a Blog of 💯 myself...!!! But since I NEVER BEFORE have done one I’m checking out all the videos and content that could be a big difference for how I decide to start my Blog and my overall future for my Blog...!!! So after watching your video right here I learned a few new things that I didn’t know before watching this...!!! So it was a overall good video with good tips and tricks for my future Blog...!!!
Blogging has been a thought I've revisited in recent months, so this comparison was fascinating. Your points ring true, also. I'm rather inconsistent in my TH-cam posting, as I was back when I blogged, and my channel has certainly grown faster than my blog did. Thank you for sharing these thoughts, Gillian! :)
Love your videos and your channel. very genuine and sincere content you put up! If you don't mind me asking, What software do you use to make and edit your TH-cam videos? Do you do these yourself or outsource them?
Thank you for this info. I would have thought that blogging is easier but you video really explained why TH-cam will be better for me. Thank you for what you do!
I have been uploading TH-cam videos regularly since March, and just reached 50 subscribers. I also have a blog that has been bringing me traffic without me trying, so I am working on the blog more. One drawback is that TH-cam is free, while a website required hosting. However TH-cam requires equipment. So each one has costs before you make money. And you have to play by TH-cam's rules with monetization.
After 21 long years of working on websites and blogs, etc, I just watched your video and you have changed my views altogether. Blogging etc isn't much profitable for most people now. There are extremely rare instances now that a new blog will succeed. Most of the people just fake it. The same thing goes for TH-cam channels too, but yes it is kind of more fun and people can make more content for TH-cam as its kind of quick, but writing blogs is a way more time-consuming. Thank you.
Thank you Gillian. This was great content. The pros and cons were extremely thought provoking. Thanks again for putting out stellar videos. Blessings to you and yours
I'm interested in starting a YT channel but I'm really concerned about trolls / bullying. How do you suggest people deal with this problem? This could be a topic for another one of your YT posts 🤔😊
Anne Stolte there will always be trolls. Just be focused on yourself and what you’re doing. Watch some videos on YT on how to deal with social media trolls. If you really want to start a YT channel and it’s something you enjoy, then don’t allow what some people say/do derail you from doing what you love.
Great stuff Gillian, my youtube channel is growing fast and I love the momentum I have, but I do worry about the 'outside chance' that the channel can disappear at any moment.
Make sure to have somewhere in the cloud to store a copy of ALL of your videos. That way if you and TH-cam ever divorce, you can simply move in with a new video host and download your videos & be back in business.
Thank you for the helpful info! I started s TH-cam video last year but was not consistent and I guess I got discouraged with low views. But you have inspired me to recommit in order to help my business grow. A blog would be great but not the right time for me , yet. Thanks 🙏🏻
Definitely go with blogging for the ''independence'' side instead of being tied with some social medias I feel more and more uncomfortable in. For video services I will consider places like Vimeo and Dailymotion as well; I do feel TH-cam's lecturing of videos is lagging and choppy more and more for the last 2 years or so.
I think a TH-cam wins hands down, with a blog you depend on external traffic sources like Google which can be very competitive, a TH-cam channel however you have more chances of getting discovered through suggested videos and the massive amounts of ppl on the site daily.

This is my strategy too. At the moment I am preparing to relaunch my youtube channel for the new year.
How do you mean to embed the video, which way, with what?. Add the transcript, how is that done?. Hope you don't mind me asking.
That's the thoughts I had on this. If I'm doing all the prep work for a video, then it's not too much more effort to also embed it into a blog and write it up. At least to start I'd like to have the option of both to work out which works best for my business. Ps. Just subscribed to your channel, Tara.
yep- I download the caption file and convert it as a text file for the blog post... this is the best way to repurpose already created content! 😘

I'm documenting my journey to open a debt-free restaurant. I live in Canada and want to open an authentic Mexican taqueria
Yum!! All the best with it!
Where's your restaurant?
So happy to get in touch with this video. I'm creating my TH-cam channel to talk about Africa, especially Ghana..
Rebecca Lees create transcripts of the videos and add them with the video embed to the blog!
Tara Wagner oh geez....what a great idea! That never even occurred to me😁. Thank you!
This is our second go at a TH-cam channel. We decided to interview successful women bloggers and vloggers about how they've done it. They all work incredibly hard but they also love it. They all, also have struggled. Makes it very inspiring.
Really amazing stuff!
his is our second go at a TH-cam channel. We decided to interview successful bloggers and vloggers about how they've done it. They all work incredibly hard but they also love it. They all, also have struggled. Makes it very inspiring. Elle who is a blogger and vlogger has great advice on creating e-books for income.

Yes, so true. I often change between both just based on my mood - which I know is what I should NOT do 😂
I am so glad that I found your channel, you are well articulated and your advice is always to the point.

Thanks so much. I started a blog and TH-cam channel at the same time. The blog has sucked me up.
Now you have shed some light on this despite I might not own my contend on TH-cam, I will start off with TH-cam channel because that's how I am going to make my money in order for me to start blogging
Do both and embed your videos on the blog with the video description. Also set up an email list collector on your blog. Don’t stress on the blog.
I run a blog and TH-cam channel. They are both a lot of work. The more you learn the better you get and the more time it takes to run it.
I’m planning to start a TH-cam channel and this video was really helpful. Thank you!
Your hair is so pretty.
Thank you! 😊
Should I talk about most popular niches
This is EXACTLY what I've been looking for! Thank you so much Gillian! I've been binging on your videos this morning. I am so inspired by you. I am a new subscriber and looking forward to hearing more from you. Thank you for all of the helpful content.
I always wonder which one I should do. I wanna create content about music recording, equipment. How to set it up etc and it makes more sense to make videos rather than blogs however I love the fact that you can do blogs from the comfort of your couch and you don’t have to worry about makeup hair etc
So true about the comfort factor! I do think that video makes way more sense for your topic though! :)
Thank you so much for this breakdown. I have been torn on which way to go and this really helped me decide.
This was helpful. While I am already making money on TH-cam, I have always been slightly concerned about not having complete control over my videos, so I am well on my way to starting a blog
It's always a good idea to keep copies of your videos and share them on other platforms as well, such as your blog or Facebook. :)
Thanks for this! I am thinking about creating my first blog and this is the right info I needed. Much appreciated!
I just started a TH-cam channel about dealing with my chronic pain. Thank you for the info. I think I’ll do both.
Kristin’s Pain is the name of it.
Good luck . Wish u all the best 👍
I really liked the points you presented. They are making me examine a bit deeper which route to take and even what to expect if I choose to do both a blog and TH-cam. Thank you for this video!
I do research off and on all week, and write it from 3:00 AM-6:00Am on Sunday morning. So, it is work, as you say.
I have really found your videos so helpful. Thank you. I have been contemplating which is my best way to go.
Very useful info on both...really good points which I will note. Cheers!
An insightful and comprehensive video as always, thank you Gillian! I wonder what the difference is in terms of frequency/quantity of blog articles required to build an audience vs. that of TH-cam? 💛
Thank u dear. It really touched me.
I started youtube 31 days ago & started my blog 3 days ago! I m super new in both but not willing to give up !
Gillian you're hair looks so good in this video 😍
Thank you very much for this great video! I like how you explained everything simple but still with all information needed to take a decision. ❤️
This episode is sooo interesting, informative, and helpful to me since I have been posting my own blogs on several websites. Keep it up Ms. Perkins....you are helping a lot of people..
I only discovered you today, and can't believe I actually watched all the way to the end. Great job Gillian
Thanks, Gillian! I really enjoy learning from your videos!
You tube also has a bit of learning curve as there are many aspects to learn
Thank you this information is very helpful. I started my TH-cam channel and I’m very excited about it! ❤️❤️
Love from India sir
I saw your comment & wanted to ask if you still recommend to do both, (a blog and YT channel), or just TH-cam?
Very helpful perspective.
I have both on my journey through Grief but have loved being able to give more of a personality to my TH-cam channel.
Love your videos and your channel. very genuine and sincere content you put up! If you don't mind me asking, What software do you use to make and edit your TH-cam videos? Do you do these yourself or outsource them?
This video was very insightful and helpful. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.
Very helpful!! Thank you!! Working on building my youtube right now and thinking about starting a blog as well
Thank you for this info. I would have thought that blogging is easier but you video really explained why TH-cam will be better for me. Thank you for what you do!
Great video! Thanks Gillian!
Can you do a video on what equipment you use to film
Thank you! I now know exactly which one I'm to do first.
Thank you! this information was so helpful! Which niches usually earn the most on TH-cam? I was thinking of starting a covers/music channel.
Check out Gary Vee about that topic. He squashes the notion of worrying about trolls dead in its tracks!
First step is to just start learn on the process 🙄
They can’t harm you. Just overcome your social anxiety first. 🙂
In 2020, which one you guys choose TH-cam or blog?
Love your hair in this video! Love the texture to it!
