Weird aside, looks like this generation of games will be the first ever to represent chrome and gold color and shinieness for the first time in video games.

Because the developers wanted to create a fun, immersive and engaging game based on a popular and iconic franchise while staying faithful to the source material which the publishers were like "sure, you do that" and to the surprise of absolutely nobody it succeeded. While we can excessively complain about "DEI" and "Wokeness" for "ruining" gaming the reality is that a lot of the issues plaguing the Triple AAA industry happened long before that around the 8th console generation gaming where we got introduced to greedy monetization policies to squeeze money out of players, poor development cycles and production that resulted in buggy, unpolished game that was excused under pathetic "we can fix it later" excuse, "games as a service" philosophy that took away focus from making great games in favor of turning them into soulless cash cows that harmed creativity and ruined potential they could have had, prioritizing corrupt executives and their bottom line than that of their hard-working men and women who develop games who get treated poorly and arbitrarily fired so CEO's can rake in more cash for themselves and generally speaking the sheer utter contempt they have for consumers who just want to have well-made, enjoyable games yet get called out for "having too much expectations" like what Ubisoft did which feels just plain insulting. If you ask me the game that seriously hurt me the most and ruined my trust in Activision-Blizzard like how Ubisoft did for you is Warcraft 3: Reforged. I absolutely ADORE Warcraft 3 and easily consider it one of my top 10 favorite games of all time and after wondering if we are ever gonna get Warcraft 4 or even a remaster of the third game we got that confirmation in 2018 that made me excited as hell. Yet when it came out it proved to be utterly disastrous with many technical issues, missing features, flat-out lying to the customers about the promises and then erasing the old game that couldn't be played unless one pirates it that was the result of Activision-Blizzard having zero faith in the game being a billion dollar product like Overwatch yet still wanted to make what little money they could and gave the developers hardly much budged to develop the game and outsourced it to a Malaysian team to cut costs at the expense of the game itself. We lost out on what could have been an amazing remaster because corporate greed got in the way and one that perfectly demonstrates that executives don't care about having a great product that sells well and make good money, only if makes extremely large profits that obviously won't be shared with people who worked the most on the games but instead goes directly to those whose entire job is basically being a corporate overlord. Furthermore thanks to World of Warcraft becoming a massive cash cow it has basically crippled any innovation and attempts at making interesting spin-offs to the series that could have been cool like single-player RPG, Total War style turn-based strategy and action style games in different ways which all could have been made to explore the lore and stories of the Warcraft games with one example being Lord of the Clans that is a really interesting story and one i like very much based on a custom campaign for Warcraft 3 that re-tells the story. It's a shame that so much potential for different games with unique experiences. What's most frustrating about all of this is how in recent years legitimate criticism with issues of Triple AAA industry and the praise games have been getting for being really great has been overshadowed by the culture war nonsense waged by people who rages against DEI and "Wokeism" as well as the "Western vs Eastern" devs BS that basically glorifies the latter to absurd degrees and demonizes the former without a single care about actual issues and who thinks getting rid of it all will "save" the gaming industry when all it does is basically allow the mega gaming corps a way to ignore genuine criticism in favor of scapegoating all gamers as being "bigoted" thanks to those toxic people that ends up shredding any serious discussion about things like DEI in any meaningful way. Overall though it's really cool to see Space Marine 2 being made and succeed in creating a great experience and enjoyable fun for Warhammer 40K fans and just fans of gaming in general, especially as the game reminds me a bit of Gears of War 2 that i enjoyed a lot in my youth. Although i do find it really amusing, and irritating, how before release it was derided by the Gamers(TM) for being "woke" because it had a transgender writer or something but then once it came out and became a success suddenly many changed their tune right away just to score points for their political agenda and even then there are those who STILL think it's "woke" because it has different ethnicities and a woman being an authority figure that plays a major role, showing just how stupid the word is and the fact that these people only care about their political agendas than the actual games themselves, coincidentally making them not so different from the "modern audience" they love to bash on. Otherwise great video and i really enjoyed this perspective and kinda semi-review of Space Marine 2 that offers great insight to it's success and talks about failures and problems plaguing the Triple AAA industry that isn't entirely due to DEI.
Maybe its said already but if you want to play one small character in a big battle try out "Mount and Blade: Bannerlords 2". You command the army but in a 3rd person view and you can ride around, attack etc
I found it interesting you grouped halo infinite with those other titles. I actually really liked that halo campaign, felt like a return to form for me.

i havent played RDR2 either for that exact same reason... actually i left it almost after the intro.. i was waiting for a new graphics card... now i have it but every game pushes it farther behind also .. hope Matthew Karch sees this :D
Personally I agree, but I don't think it quite has enough of a mass appeal that I see as a requirement for GOTY. It certainly got more people interested in 40k, but 40k still is a bit of a niche thing. Both Wukong and FF7R do have it, so I don't think it would've stood much of a chance anyway (all three are absolutely stellar games and any of them would deserve the title tbh). That said I do hope it wins best action game at least, because as good of a package as Wukong is overall, I do think SM2 ever so slightly beats it there.
It seems you’re eager for a good game if you’re already calling Space Marine 2 exceptional. At best, it’s a mediocre title. The main reason it might stand out is that, compared to the current state of the gaming industry-which is saturated with politicized, surface-level content prioritizing agendas over gameplay-it feels refreshing. I’ve completed Space Marine 2 and found the story engaging, but the combat mechanics were underwhelming. This isn’t a “skill issue,” as some often claim to bolster their credibility as gamers. I’ve completed challenging titles like Ninja Gaiden and Dark Souls, among others, and I grew up during the 8-bit era when games truly tested skill and perseverance, without the handholding that’s so common today. In essence, Space Marine 2 is a parry-and-dodge simulator that becomes repetitive quickly. The balancing is a joke when compared to tabletop. No cover mechanics. On higher difficulties enemies are boring bullet sponges. I can go on with the reasonable complaints, but I won't. Suffice to say that I’ve leveled all the classes and stepped away from the game after just two weeks. While enjoyment is subjective, this video serves as an example of why gaming struggles to live up to its potential in the current climate.
I think the HoMM series is the classic poster child of immersion enhancing audio design, no matter 2, 3, 4 or 5. I totally agree its commonly neglected nowadays unless its GTA
Look I've played red dead 2 twice!! The great thing is each quest is only 5 to 10 minutes long! You just ride to a quest in any order stopping along the way at interesting places! Try and play it like a linear game, in an open world! Took me 90 hours, you wasted that on starfield

dude, this is the quality of games back in the 2000s early 2010s. If sm2 came out back then (like it did because 2) it would be considered mid (like it was, because quality was much higher back then)
This one gets it and knows thee way. With how little this game has to offer for that price, this shit would be ridiculed to hell and back if this came out on the 360 The only reason why they're so blind and why everyone is "omg sm2 is a return to form" is because they've been buying garbage for over a decade and as soon as something seems remotely good comes along... Here we are lol That and most of these MF are too young or just forgot what we use to pay for. Let this sink in... I'd honestly suggest people who love SM2 keep an eye out for Darktide going on sale, the visuals aren't as grandiose, but the combat is tiers above in terms of mechanics and 'ooomph', the skill trees/builds are far more unique and impactful than SM2s multiplayer and the soundrack is an absolute banger.

Tbh I didn't know what Warhammer was and I got space Marines 2 cause I was bored of my games I've been playing and got space Marines 2 on a whim and it's got me diving into the lore and gots me hooked it's my g.o.t.y fr
Brilliant video
I will always choose some 10-20hour game/campaign with good story and gameplay over some open-world filled with points of ''interests''. My favorite quote from the internet is: 'How do you know it's shit, it's not even out of ass yet? You can smell it even if the ass is hidden.'
The fact a card game got GOTY nomination and not this, its all you need to know.
Weird aside, looks like this generation of games will be the first ever to represent chrome and gold color and shinieness for the first time in video games.
I'm so excited to see what Saber is going to do with the KOTOR remake. Judging by how well they did with Space Marine 2, I believe it is in good hands.
I got an email 8 seconds into this video telling me Space Marine 2 was on sale, (only wish I had enough money to buy it while its on sale..)
Bruh Asmon needs to watch this one too. 😅 Space Marine 2 is extremely underrated and you hit the nail on the head with all the points you mentioned in this video.
would recommend; Traitor Rock by Justin D. Hill and Longshot by Rob Young - if you want some of the best of the newer Imperial Guard focused novels.
Enjoyed your insight in this one. Good video
One of the best games I’ve ever played. I had little to no familiarity with the 40k universe coming into the game. I was blown away by the story and tight gameplay. I walked away a fan of this game and of the 40k universe.
Never was into warhammer before space marine.
Now I like space sharks : )
7:37 I drug it out over a period of 6 months. Making clothes takes time 😅
Here before Asmongold
I love your videos!
A game so important, they couldn't even nominate it for GOTY
Brother I think it’s time you make TH-cam videos. I completely agree with you-well written, bro.
4:25 you can play Mount and Blade games for this wish of yours! :D
Maybe its said already but if you want to play one small character in a big battle try out "Mount and Blade: Bannerlords 2". You command the army but in a 3rd person view and you can ride around, attack etc
11:29 SOLD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! just take my money
Try Beyond All Reason - from the list of games you mentioned I guess you might like it
I found it interesting you grouped halo infinite with those other titles.
I actually really liked that halo campaign, felt like a return to form for me.
I gotta check this Space Marine out. Avoided it until now, but looks fun
Wait for sale and content updates. This game is bare bones and not worth the price. People who paid for cosmetics are still waiting for the stuff they paid for
i havent played RDR2 either for that exact same reason... actually i left it almost after the intro.. i was waiting for a new graphics card... now i have it but every game pushes it farther behind
also .. hope Matthew Karch sees this :D
I didn't finish Red Dead 2 myself. I was tired of it when the last part of the map was opened and *spoiler* died.
Engaging gameplay loop>soulless bloated sandbox
Should have been a goty nominee by default.
I was wondering when you were going to come out with another video 🤙🤙
This! if a game is more than 20 - 30 Hours Im not touching it Im 40 2 kids my own company and 2 hours on average of gaming time every evening.
have you tried helldivers2?
For the Emperor!
In other words, because I didn’t enjoy a game, it’s not a really great game like others wanna make it out to be. Makes perfect sense
For the emperor. And the algorithm
I think the HoMM series is the classic poster child of immersion enhancing audio design, no matter 2, 3, 4 or 5. I totally agree its commonly neglected nowadays unless its GTA
It's just so good.
Thousands sons being trash mobs was a low key L. Every one of them should have been a mini boss.
It's the FOV and camera distance for me. I can't really see myself buying a game where half the screen is some giant Megaman larper
They have mentioned addressing this in an upcoming update.
@@PaddaPlays Glad to hear it
Bloat is to gaming what filler is to Anime.
The Emperor approves 👍
Look I've played red dead 2 twice!! The great thing is each quest is only 5 to 10 minutes long! You just ride to a quest in any order stopping along the way at interesting places! Try and play it like a linear game, in an open world! Took me 90 hours, you wasted that on starfield
I absolutely did waste it 😭
And they came in like a wrecking ball 👌🏻👌🏻
Really good video and yeah I agree this game was a nice and focused experience that set itself apart from the sea of bloated games out there
padda you made me look to the power of manyyyy scene again goddamnit... you should've removed the Gore and Spoilers warning and added the Cringe one 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
😭😂😂😂
$100+ for...
- drip fed cosmetics
- drip fed cut content
- lackluster post-launch support
- updates and hotfixes are far and few in-between
Best to catch this on sale after a year or two of updates. By then hopefully it'll have maybe half the content gears 3 had on the 360 😂
Loved it
Posting at 10pm neh 🤣 FOR THE EMPEROR!
Been grinding for 4 hours trying to get this bad boy uploaded
@@PaddaPlays Totally worth it, video is quality. Me and my fiance are super warhammer fans and love your videos too ❤
@@WolfQueenLydia thank you so much!
Yo Asmongold if you are watching this may the emperor guide your bald chapter brother!
dude, this is the quality of games back in the 2000s early 2010s.
If sm2 came out back then (like it did because 2) it would be considered mid (like it was, because quality was much higher back then)
This one gets it and knows thee way.
With how little this game has to offer for that price, this shit would be ridiculed to hell and back if this came out on the 360
The only reason why they're so blind and why everyone is "omg sm2 is a return to form" is because they've been buying garbage for over a decade and as soon as something seems remotely good comes along... Here we are lol
That and most of these MF are too young or just forgot what we use to pay for.
Let this sink in... Gears 3 on the 360 had 3x the amount of content, maps, modes, literally everything for $60+ as Space Marine 2 for $100+
😂😂
@@Lordhakai241 I wouldn't call it shit, but if I just compare it to the games I played when I was in high school, yea mid, not bad but not amazing. Like you said, many might be too young so they think this is peak and don't go play classics because "bad graphics"
Like lolipop chainsaw. It was mid back in the day but now it releases to critical acclaim
You want SM2 to be recognized? You want publishers to hear you?
Speak with your wallet! It’s the ONLY language they understand.
No wokeness? That’s an instant buy for me.
Reject DEI, Embrace Brotherhood.
Yo
perf too
hi papa
Love how you gloss over the fact that
- paid dlc is still missing
- Content is severely lacking
- Post-launch support has been terrible
- They literally had to walk back updates and apologize for brain dead decision-making when it comes to game balance
- People who purchased physical in some countries have been fucked by saber and still don't have their game
- They promote mods for PC steam users, meanwhile console gets nothing
- They can't add XYZ cool shit to the game because they have GW's arm up their ass, so they get the modders to do it for them
This is literal 343 type behavior 😂
Can't lie, after spending years hoping for a SM2 after loving the first one, I havn't bought it because SM2 just looks like style over substance. If I want gritty, grimdark epic combat, I've got Darktide.
Glad 40k non-RTS computer games are finally in a good place, but this ones not for me.
@@donmongoose it’s worth giving it a try in my opinion. Maybe wait until there’s a sale? I loved the first one and this, for me, feels like a faithful sequel.
@@PaddaPlays I think that's the issue, the first one was great but it also had no similiar 40k game to compare it to. And honestly, I spent 90% of my time on SM1 playing the Exterminatus mode, which isn't due in SM2 until mid 2025.
I'm afraid the same wokeism is coming for Warhammer. There are some TH-camrs talking about it already.
It is not, no tits no buy.
SM2 is not important the game is a waste 0f money barely any post launch content
Settle down pretty marginal game actually. Dollar store gears of war.
lol
RDR2 is a boring game to me. Realism is boring.
