  • Master certified mechanic and television host Sam Memmolo shows just how easy it is to install the rear suspension conversion kit on this Mercury Grand Marquis. With an approved lifting device, Memmolo says all you will need is a screwdriver and needle-nose pliers to do the install.
As Sam notes in the video FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS provided with purchase of a Strutmasters suspension conversion kit for the latest install procedures and best results.
Although rear shocks can vary from year to year, the exclusive premium steel coil springs from Strutmasters in the conversion kit will fit from 1990 to 2011 models of the Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car and Ford Crown Victoria vehicles that came with a factory air suspension system.
With more than four decades of experience working on vehicles, Sam Memmolo knows a few things about factory air suspension systems. He knows all of those systems have a 100% failure rate due to age and mileage AND they rely on a series of electronic components to work properly.
Like thousands of mechanics across the country, Sam Memmolo recommends converting the leaking rubber air springs (also called air bags) to the exclusive premium steel coil springs in the Strutmasters conversion kit. While you are back there, it is vital to install new shock absorbers for a quality ride. Sam knows that shocks are the secret to a smooth ride and springs just support the weight of the vehicle.
As you will see in the video, our products are designed to be simple to install, provide a great ride quality and save customers thousands of dollars versus OE replacement parts. We work on customer vehicles every day to design new products and to stay on top of the latest suspension challenges.
Strutmasters founder Chip Lofton was the first to offer a fully assembled suspension conversion kit when the air suspension failed on his personal Lincoln in 1999. The company is still headquartered in North Carolina, where Lofton leads a team that strives to provide the best products and customer service in the industry. They use premium steel coil springs that are made exclusively for them in America. All of their conversion kits are assembled in small batches by experienced employees to ensure the highest quality.
These electronically-controlled factory suspension systems are very complicated and expensive! A common failure happens when rubber in the system cracks and leaks air -- causing the onboard compressor to eventually fail. This results in an immediate loss of ride height and renders many vehicles undriveable
Older, high-mileage vehicles will generally require multiple repairs to keep the system working. Don't learn the hard way! Avoid multiple repairs that come with fixing the existing system (especially with cheap, imitation parts).
Take it from veteran mechanic Sam Memmolo: Fix It Once, Fix It Right with the original -- Strutmasters! Jot down your full vehicle ID number (VIN) and give us a call today at 866-597-2397 .

    Hello Strutmasters!
I really like the Panther body Fords. Particularly the civilian ones. I've always really liked how the Grand Marquis looked. When I found out that the Grand Marquis has air suspension, I was saddened. I had heard about that suspension being infamous. I knew the Town Car had it, but I didn't know that the Grand Marquis did. If I do get a Grand Marquis, I am certainly interested in modifying the suspension to remove the air pillows.

I did a conversion on a SUV. The source of the leak was simply the O-rings that connect the lines. But the customer wanted to convert and the shop wanted to sell it because it much more $$. The repair needed is only parts that cost pennies and maybe half an hour so you see how little it cost compared to instaling a conversion kit.
Most of these air systems problmes are simply but shop don't truthfully inform the owners due to greed.
