    I’m coming over to Wylie in 3 weeks. I called them and let them know you referred after I found out you’re there. Thanks to you I had the courage to get my CDL even to my pops handed me 3 Cdl manual 8 years ago I didn’t take him seriously. Thanks to your advices I’m living a better life . I hooked on drugs and alcoholic after I got out the military

    For 68 cent's per mile and being treated like a human... I'll show up 3 hours early... Here at Western Express... I'm not sure if they're happy I showed up at all let alone alive. Traffic is the best part of my day. 🤣🤣🤣

    • @DavidBryantsTranscendent
      @DavidBryantsTranscendent 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I know you said don't do drugs... But what if someone has like a medical condition... Cause I don't want any of these trucker's forgetting their blood pressure medicine before I gotta drive next to them in traffic. Does goodies count as drugs? Or emergent-c? Cause I can't afford to get scurvy waiting on some of these loads. I know I'm gonna die from eating these truck stop meals... But I just keep eatin em, and that's definitely a sign of addiction. I'm 100 percent positive that coffee is a drug... But how else am I supposed to ensure regular bowl movements with all these cheese curds and roller grill tacitos clogging up everything on the way to my arteries. Cheese is more addictive than heroin... That's just science. 🤣

      What do you have to say about western express I’m new out of class w a CDL no experience,, I like that there going to train me on flat bed ,, should I pick another mega carrier I feel like there all close to the same thing whej your new ?

    • @DavidBryantsTranscendent

      @@richybaldino4679 they are. You're not wrong. We just got an 8 cent raise company wide and there was another company wide raise within the first 3 months I started here. They don't bug the shit out of you for the most part. But the trade off is you sometimes have to deal with folks who seem like they have a pretty bad additude towards driver's in the office. But that also could be said about most starter companies.
      Huge downside is we don't get paid for layover, detention, resets, etc. Not usually. There has to be some kind of huge ass problem for that to happen. So even with the raises... You're gonna get paid less per week than you could make if you applied at target right now. But I won't get specific on that till after I finish my first year with them. I haven't taken any home time the whole time I've worked here. Going on 7 months out. And my paychecks have been basically the same on average. Dry van paid less per mile but we only get 12.50 to tarp and 12.50 to untarp. Tarping and strapping is going to take you 2 hours on average to do it right when you first start. And it usually doesn't take more than an hour to untarp. So basically everything you do works out to be either state or federal minimum wage.
      I would advise saving up a little bit of money to have an emergency fund before you start at any company. As the starter companies tend to not compensate for orientation pay. Which is "pre hire status." As far as their concerned.
      I don't know if you're prior military but having that experience myself I could definitely compare the experience to basic training for truck driving... without perdiam. And it's 6 months to a year long. So kind of brutal in the patient's department.
      Which is why I prefer flatbed. Getting out of the truck and doing some actual labor makes it feel a little less like solitary confinement. But be prepared to work outside in all weather conditions. Which again... If you enjoy construction and stuff like that. Flatbed is for you. It just doesn't pay to be a first year trucker right now. And hasn't for a long time. Their counting on you not knowing your getting hosed. Which honestly feels like a pretty sad insult to anyone's intelligence if you're damn near 40 like me. But even in my 20's I could have rationalized the pay scale is just barely enough for them to not get in trouble for underpaying wages.
      As far as starting companies goes... Not being micro managed is a big deal to me cause I appreciate big boy rules. So that's still the best selling point of Western Express to me... But we do seem to get routed by a lot of prisons... And you're never sure if that's an accident once you've delt with a couple of bad apples in the office. 😂
      I will tell you that there are a lot of good companies that will train you to do flatbed and not require you to team drive. But whatever company you choose. Stick with it for at least a year. There's a lot of changes going on in the industry right now and for better or worse the old timers that started a lot of these companies are aging out of running them... And that seems to have created a predatory environment comparable to the movie major league... Where it almost feels like their trying to make you quit and bankrupt the company so they can short sell it. A lot of that has been going on in fact. So just make a decision and get after it before they force autonomous trucks on these starter companies... Cause that's already about to happen at swift for example.
      I hope that kind of helps... My best advice if you're thinking about joining Western Express right now is be strong and patient. Focus on learning the skill... And understand that you can't take anything personal... Cause essentially your going to be treated like a child who's allowed to operate heavy equipment at mine in the early 20th century. But getting a good DM who you can joke with about it helps. 😂

    Once you go FlatBed you’ll love nothing better. Trucking wise that is 😅 I talk a lot about hating it and how I’m going to leave but here I am still 4 years later. I see other flatbed drivers that are in their 70’s and I’m like how in the hell! To them it must be a religion and I think it says a lot to how it keeps you in shape. Just be smart and take your time cause one bad move and your done. High off the ground doing a balancing act while tarping or even just stepping out of your truck can be dangerous. That’s life though. Risk is in everything and as long as the rewards are worth it you keep going.

Sir I'll respect your seniority, but I'm going to play my young mans advantage. I'm only 39. I'll run past a 58-65 year old! No disrespect sir. And I think new drivers should go into flatbed first also.
