It must have been great for the audience in Berlin who heard this Beethoven's overture live! From the explosive introduction and the sweetest string transition, I could tell the Berliner players were trying their hardest to meet Kleiber's expectation. In the end, I bet the audience didn't know how to clap after hearing such an uplifting and inspiring rendition of the Coriolan. What a tragic loss to our world that Kleiber didn't record more pieces of music.
The audience "ist völlig verloren" ... (completely lost) Imagine ... you take a shower at 19h30 at home, quietly, and 1 hour later, at 20h30, in the Berlin Philharmonic, you have to face your destiny. This must have been the very moment of the persons who suddenly jumped out of the trains in Auschwitz.
sharp and aggressive. this is a classic symphony. its about thought and philosophy of a symphony. the nature of the waves and the essence of the harmony. so wild. absolutely in noble form. only music can describe this Magnificent Majestic Miraculous Monument. Bright Brilliant knowledge in conducting of this fabulous piece.
Gracias.
Multumesc!
Watch the docs on Digital Concert Hall called "Our History." The musicians never cared about entrances being together. They wanted the suspense and passion.
why should they be? If they are strictly in tempo, there is no dramatic tension. But ask your conducting teacher how much he conducted really in front of an audience. Here, in spite of the fact that the chords are not right (only the last one is correct and with timpani on the beat properly), tension is incredible. Drama is HERE. This is conducting. This and Karajan's, the rest is useless.
Because he didn't want them to be perfect. He often said to the orchestra "let your neighbor come in first". The effect almost like a drum roll rather than a dry Tah.
Kleiber was once quoted saying that conducting this performance was -
“like driving a Rolls Royce at 50 mph into a brick wall”.
In my world Carlos Kleiber is "Super-Carlos".🤩
Kleiber's recordings have a luminosity that no other conductor can achieve.

Dear Andrew. What other works did Kleiber conduct during this concert ? Thanks for the answer
@@Draster13 Hi, I think he also conduced Brahms Symphony No 4 and Mozart's No 33 symphony. Hoping this helps.
@@andrewchiang7325 Thank you very much Andrew and best wishes

I see Silence of the Lambs in this photo! But what a treat to have Kleiber in a work like this, with Berlin of all orchestras...
Atemberaubend, jeder Moment, auch die ersten drei Akkorde, beethovennah.
Gracias.

Magnificent Beethoven playing! Thanks so much for posting this! I never heard Kleiber with the BPO. It's so great! Words fail ...
His performance does not feel even the slightest decline by blank.
It is really great.
Absolutely sensational.
Fantastic!
I know there is a stereo recording of this particular concert with an introductory speech by Richard von Weizsäcker. Please upload this version.
Powerful!!!!!!
Thank you for the sharing!
This is a scary and precarious piece for everyone involved, and it never gets easier. Kleiber is fearless.
+Mark Beaulieu Indeed. And even he doesn't get it right.
+Nai61a Try Reiner with the Chicago Symphony, it's on TH-cam. Sounds like an angry psychotic rant.
Mark Beaulieu nn
Powerful. But I'll go with Reiner.
The naked violence and inner desperation of Kleiber's conducting makes this Coriolan for Eternity.
Not to be escaped.

very rare , Thanks!
Phenomenal!
Straordinario 😎
Carlos Kleiber was not only a superb conductor. He also was a true European.
He is a Korean.
Really ????
0:55 these four chords ..... that desperate howling full of such a pain ... Kleiber
Nur diese Aufnahme lässt einen dieses Werk verstehen!
Kleiber was Karajan's picked successor, until he declined. Oh, what might have been!
he was ill a lot. bipolar.
@@emjdeckwitz6949 HE was? That's why the energy in his recordings reminds me of live Klemperer recordings so often. Also bipolar.
Brilliant Perfect
June 28th. To whom it may concern. - A Quote from LB's Peace Opera «A Quiet Place».
Unvergessliches Konzert. Stundenlang anstehen für die Restkarten und dann das Feuerwerk mit S. Richter etc.
Better the "decline" of Kleiber as the zenith of Rattle . . . .
Fritz Maisenbacher Hard to believe Kleiber turned down an offer to conduct this world class ensemble.
I only spoke about a (pseudo)-"decline" of Kleiber because some moron gave this word here.
But his comment now deleted.

you are right.. but awesome take
YES
Klieber is a Korean, Confusius is also a Korean.

you sit in the concert as normal visitor? Or you made it for a radio broadcasting company?

Ok! Ok!
I hear rhythmic problems all over the place.

Me too ! tympany spécialy !
hmmmm what about the beginnig?? not good.
3 chords, only the third is perfect.
Our conducting teacher always insisted the first three chords must be strictly in tempo - not a sort of introduction flourish.

He said that to get his famous effect when a chord seems to come out of nohing or nowhere. For example the ouverture of "Freischütz".
@@anonymusum precisely. he once said 'thunder in the sky never needs an introduction.'
