  • Icon Yachts' Project Master has been moving along since our last visit. Primer paint has been applied, areas are being cleaned out and prepared for refit, the entire yacht has been scanned to create a point cloud, and designs are being drawn up for the interior.

    You can stuff a five-star hotel into this and call it a yacht but it is a ship, and will always be a ship. It is good that the owner and Icon have decided to recognise that and work with it. Retain the original DNA as they term it. I like all David's videos. This series is pretty special.

    WOW! A masterclass in how to repurpose a working ship, respect the ships original DNA adding luxury. ICON and the owner are creating a yacht that will inspire others to do likewise. Can’t wait to see updates of the build journey to the final product. I am sure this yacht with win awards on completion.

    One of your best videos yet! Combining the GA with views and explanations of current progress is perfect for imagining the finished product. What a great project! So looking forward to the next videos of this. Her new captain should be happy on that bridge. Really wonderful to make room for science on her, all yachts really should do that. All any marine biologist needs is 3 squares and a bunk, and they'll be happy to get out there and do their work. Not a big ask, and easy to do for so many of these megayachts.

    I absolutely love these conversions. It's just amasing to see what an 'old' industrial mammoth can become. It is like converting an old workshop into a glorious loft. I still think back to Ragnar and your extensive coverage of that project. Love it Love it Love it

    I am massively enthused to see no less than TEN 'private' cabins for CREW!!! (Thank you SO much for the GA.) This is unheard of in private yachts! I've long entertained notions of having just that number of private crew cabins in my own 'fantasy' yacht. The quality of a yachting experience has more to do with the quality of the crew than it does with the yacht itself. When it comes to recruiting and keeping the highest quality crew, there is little you can offer them other than outrageous salary except perhaps, a private cabin (and otherwise excellent crew facilities)! This yacht is the dream!

    It's difficult to say just how much I enjoy watching this type of video. For many years I have looked at the options available to convert working ships into luxury explorer yachts and this particular yacht is simply breathtaking. All I can ask for is more please, more more more.

    remarkable video, the video is simply special, the transition from the amazing camera work and the 3D art are simply stunning. Asweel as the little details like visualizing the deck plans in a 3 Dimensional way are just amazing. The attention to detail from the start to the end is a class for itself👏

    Kudos to Icon for the sustainability pledge. Bigger congratulations to the owner for providing a platform for ocean research to be conducted. I really hope that it is used every day while the ship is being used. I love these videos. Yes it’s nice seeing a yacht being built from start to finish, but to take a donor ship and use your imagination and seeing the possibilities takes real talent. I love how the owner and designer are taking care of the crew. I am not sure how many crew will be onboard but the area provided for them for their off time, if there ever really is such a thing for yacht crew, is impressive. I for one hope that Icon and owner allow you to continue this series, so far it’s great

    Hi David, a few days ago i saw a video which I can’t find any longer, i don t think was my imagination! You were talking with 3 gentleman’s that have created a new yacht building company, and their yacht are made without following the usual way other builders do, battery, solar, and water desalination and with the main kitchen in the living area, both my imagination? Has been removed? Thanks N

      I agree, it would have been so much simpler to scrap the old ship and use its steel for a modern design.

  • @clifbradley
    @clifbradley ปีที่แล้ว

    Do you know the owner of this yacht? I imagine it's someone we've probably all heard of before, or at least a company or country he owns. It would be interesting to see an interview with that person and talk to them about why they went this route and what they hope to do with it. Alas, I know that is not always possible as some yacht owners are secretive with their yachts, but a yacht this big will come out with who owns it. Interesting side note is that you said a lot of equipment will be reused, but what ofmthe equipment they can't use. This gets sold off ai imagine, but who recoup that money? The shipyard for cost of dismantling and selling it, or the yacht owner because he bought the vessel?

    • @panpiper
      @panpiper ปีที่แล้ว

      I expect any value/revenue from salvaged gear would go to the shipyard. They are far better positioned to use it themselves or know who could, and they would simply factor that value into their price for the yacht conversion, which would indirectly mean lower cost for the owner.

  • @judy8301

    OMW, everything I thought of is being done on this yacht. If and when my "ship does come in" I want to kill two birds with one stone .... run all my projects from here and still having the pleasure of traveling and exploring the world, hence why I would need a helicopter.

  • @Lord.Kiltridge
    @Lord.Kiltridge ปีที่แล้ว

    Who do I have to kill to get a berth on someone's explorer yacht? I can't buy my way in. All I need is a free birth and food. I can bring my own clothes, kilt, whisky, beer, pipe tobacco and cigars.
    There is not a lot I would not give to be part of a scientific expedition.
