  • Unique search & rescue vessel was designed for operation in all-weather conditions, including ice - can now be converted for global adventures as an extraordinary expedition yacht. It can be converted in 12-18 months at the very capable shipyard in Spain that owns the vessel and has kept it since new.
    The project has huge advantages due to the base-line vessel being an ice-class, hi-speed (19-knot) hull with MAN/Rolls-Royce diesel-electric propulsion, retractable stabilizers and other advanced systems which match, or surpass, any new yacht build.
    The conversion package will allow a new owner to customize the existing interior space with a new layout and to finish the interior to suit his/her tastes and global mission. The vessel can accommodate a host of special adventure equipment for polar expeditions and all manner of expedition missions.

    That boat has a lot of potential. What would you estimate to be the cost of full conversion, including the helideck refit?

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because it already has diesel-electric, retractable stabilizers and redundant systems and ample interior space - it could become a yacht support vessel or fast expedition vessel for as little as $5 million (plus cost of vessel).

    Speaking of crew I’m noticing a lot of these conversions are underestimating just how many more crew they should safely have. These large vessels really need more crew just to safely maintain a ship like this for world cruising. Don’t make their quarters to small on such a large vessel.

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The class society specifies a 'safe manning requirement' for operating any vessel. Ships usually have quarters for more crew than are required.

    • @realcomments

      greedy people, have his and hers 20x10 feet bathrooms but counts the inches of crew accommodations. I believe no decent crew will work for them.

      @@realcomments I assume the real purpose of these explorer vessels is for the ultra-wealthy to escape/migrate when political instability gets too high. As such, cheaping out on crew quarters is fantastic way to go missing at sea.

      @@realcomments If I had the funds, All cabins would be mostly the same. I am not into opulent look at me, I am more into function, comfort and usability. A happy crew will stay with you for longer than ones crammed into closets. heck, find married couples that can crew and let them enjoy life at anchor and at sea. No social media whores need apply.

    So how much are you talking about to bring it up to that standard? Just out of curiosity. I can't afford it either way but i'd just like to have a ball park figure to give us some idea.

    Hey Paul, what would be the burn rate of this vessel ? And fuel capacity ?
    Many thanks

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Currently 42,000 gals. and there's room and capacity for additional. We figure about 4500 nm range at an economic cruise speed.

    Paul. What will be the range of this vessel @ 20 knots, and @10-12 knot cruise speed?

    • @ExpeditionYachts

      It will be configured to deliver at least 5,000 nm

    But why did the Danish government want to get rid of it?

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      One of the shipyards building the vessel went bust, and this allowed the Danish Gov't out of the contract. They circled back and tried to buy the vessel at a big discount and the shipyard told them to buzz off. The Danes did this on several vessels in Spain when there was an overall downturn due to the oil industry. there is a similar S&R vessel being built in Spain now at a cost in the high €20's.

    I want a yacht that can take me anywhere in any weather at the most economical operating cost. I want it to have garages for, at least, one H-145 helicopter and one amphibious vehicle, like the Sherp. I also want it to be able to service and refuel the Grumman HU-16/G111 Albatross amphibious aircraft (the only aircraft that can take 6ft waves and 10ft swells and has a range of 2,700 NM). I need a large saloon, an adequate sundeck, an interesting sky lounge, a small fly-bridge, a small office, a luxurious owner's suite, and 4 comfortable, but not too large guestrooms. I want it to survive mild ice knocks, but no ice breaking capability, so even no ice-plating or Ice Class 2 or 1C would suffice. I, of course, would want it to have twin engines, rudders, and screws, and either sufficient draught to survive the worst weather or a centerboard, which some of the recent NOAA vessels have. I want the interior to be practical, but classy, like that on the San Lorenzo expedition yachts. Any OSV, coast guard, salvage tug, or naval conversion would do.

    Maybe add the specs in English please and the price of vessel with rough idea ( i know it verys on what you have done) of a cost from a basic starting point. Oh and to those that say "if you have to ask you can't afford it. I got stuff I'll sell you. And I'll just go to someone else. A fool and his/her money is soon departed

    • @ExpeditionYachts
      @ExpeditionYachts  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you use the shipyard that was one of the builders, the price of the vessel would be in €8-10m range, plus the conversion. All subject to negotiation, of course.
