This made be more happy that some of the previous developments. There was always talk about Tejas being underpowered, suboptimally designed, having low payload capacity and speed etc etc. But orders don't lie. Airforce of any country won't go for systems that simply don't work. It could be the case that now the leadership is growing warmer to the indigenous systems due to political situation, private contribution etc. In which case it's also nice.
That's good news. Looks like HAL with a capacity of 24 jets a year will take 10 years. Who will manufacture Tejas M2 ? Or has the timeline been postponed ? Should M2 be given to a private entity ?
Interesting how IAF waited for Tejas to mature and had kept very high standards regarding what it expected from a new fighter jet. This made everyone work hard to get Tejas with all weapon systems and subsystems to upto international standards, and now in it's current mark1a form it has become a lethal platform. If IAF had ordered Tejas 10-15 years earlier we would have been sitting with 100 or more subpar jets like jf17 block 1 and 2. Every organisation involved faced so much criticism for the delay but it ultimately turned out to be right decision!

I usually take claims made by likes of ANI and The Wire with a pinch of salt. However, if true, I shall be immensely happy. To be honest, this news doesn't make sense unless either the IAF has given up its decision to acquire 114 M-MRCAs or Tejas Mk-2 program has run into some big problem or the IAF has decided to drastically increase the sanctioned fighter squadron strength. Tejas-MK2 should be the top priority at this moment. It strikes the right balance between capability and cost. I am highly doubtful about the veracity of this news story.

Tejas maneuverability is less than both rafale and su30mki, less range and less payload, I think 123 Tejas mk1A are okay, we should focus more on Tejas MK2
If we somehow go for rafale in the mmrca program we should negotiate for m88-3 engine for rafale and that can be made in india to a similar deal like what we intend for 120kn engine and can be used for tejas mk1a achieving indigenisation to the maximum.
That comes to $80 million per aircraft, additional cost of 20 million for weapons etc, !! Approx $100 million per aircraft, it's way very-very costly !!

Sustained turn rate is 16 degrees. Which is better than jf17 but a lot less than f16 and j10. Marginal increase is not going to be enough.

If we somehow go for rafale in the mmrca program we should negotiate for m88-3 engine for rafale and that can be made in india to a similar deal like what we intend for 120kn engine and can be used for tejas mk1a achieving indigenisation to the maximum.
That comes to $80 million per aircraft, additional cost of 20 million for weapons etc, !! Approx $100 million per aircraft, it's way very-very costly !!
