The A10 is the infantryman's guardian angel. It can take off from dirt roads , give hell to the enemy with its GAU 8/A Cannon and other weapons, take heavy punishment and fly back to base with only one wing or engine. The placement of the engines is also deliberate. This aircraft can pulverize tanks. And the fuel tanks are carefully protected. And this beast has been upgraded. Full glass cockpit, networking capabilities etc.We have to fight in plains on the entire western border, which includes deserts of Rajasthan and Gujarat. And in forested areas of the north east of which parts are hilly but nothing which the A10 can't handle. If this plane is produced, I would say , India should go for it .

Why are you discussing all this when A-10s are not even manufactured, and almost all are at the end of their lives? The US Air Force is already running A-10s by extending their lives. It was a great plane, but it is also a plane that is way past its expiry date.

For the first time today I do not agree with your concept. India truly needs CAS aircraft. Mountains me bombing easy nahi hai, too high and you get picked up by ground radar, too low and you face terrain danger. Most of the targets are and will be in valleys and regular bombers including Jaguar are too fast to pass them before accurately targeting them. Helicopters can hover but sacrifice is with payload and survivability. Remember Black Hawk Down? The latest Ukraine- Russia conflict have also shown this. We need a A10 like low speed, heavy payload, highly survivable air craft. May be a derivative of Trainer Hawk or upcoming Marut or A totally new design from scratch.

Especially in the Rann of Kutch area and the rest of western land border. But hum toh Jaguars ko bhi retire kar denge kuchh sal meh. Shouldn't we look for an alternative? Hunters and Maruts were critical to the army's victory at Longewala. Not sure if the Mirage 2000 and Su-30MKIs or the Rafale are the best bet for that. Yes we will have helicopters like Prachand and AH-64 but again as you pointed out they are in a separate class. So maybe a deal worth looking at for the future. Both warthog and frog foot are exceptional choices for this role however, they are a bit one dimensional and may be a reason for them being ignored as the current doctrine require multirole aircrafts over a specialized ground attack plane like this.

Actually this is a good aircraft..they call it flying fortress. Signature two engines on the tail lend some protection. It is found that despite a crippled wing, it managed to get out of the enemy country & land safely in the neutral terrain. However, soeed is one shortcoming. Further, use of Helis will get more & more limited as they're very vulnerable to anti-aircraft missiles.

There were two concepts shown by HAL some time back. One was called the Hawk i, and the other was a weaponosed version of the HTT 40- something like the American Super Tucano.
I think these will be feasible alternative for close air support for the Indian armed forces.
However they have been shelved as they didnot elicit any interest from the IAF.

A-10 has proven itself in asymmetrical warfare, despite being outdated tech - outdated as in not cutting-edge. This would help our troops fighting in Kashmir and other insurgencies. Against a full-fledged war, they would likely not be that effective as they are easy SAM food, since they are slow and fly low and are also vulnerable to drones. But how likely is a full-blown hot war? Not very likely. We will likely only see protracted periods of low-intensity combat.
The issue is, they are old and therefore expensive to maintain and their ammo is pretty exclusive, only the US makes the ammo for its GAU cannon as far as I know. We must acquire 2-3 squadrons and check out their combat effectiveness before taking any of them. The US is likely to retire them soon since they would not work really well against a professional army like that of China's - same as the AC-130.
That being said, I am pretty sure drones can do their job much better and do not involve us risking our pilots.

Deserts, mountain ranges and now thanks to Bangladesh a marshy forest to guard and provide air support to in case of a war. Deserts? Tried and tested by the ground friendly fire is difficult to avoid plus it is very vulnerable to manpads. Mountains? Nah no chance. Marshy forest? Good luck trying to distinguish between friend and foe.

Most likely india will buy su 57 if we can settle the payment crisis thats why the war in ukraine should end. Its better than any 4.5 gen platform

Handover all airforce requirements to navy. Let them purchase for airforce. Handover su 30 fighters to navy so they can safeguard, use, maintain better than airforce.

Amca will come after 2035 if everything goes as plan so we will have Amca 1 squadron around 2038 to 2040 our squadron strength is decreasing we immediately need at least 5 squardon of latest rafale with is the rafale4 we have I think rafale 3 we need latest rafale and we need at least 2 to 3 squadrons of f35 as an 5 gen fighter so we can have something prepared for China pak will get j31 in next 5 years so if we sign a deal today this will also take 5 to 7 years so we need to be quick
