Might as well buy an original version instead, because of the price.
You have to be one of the most original and creative Nintendo channels out there most people would have just made a list of the games they wanted to see and sometimes some extra features and I quite enjoy those videos but you went above and beyond and actually made a functioning console amazing video man

Great work! I was under the assumption you gutted a Wii and put it inside. I'd imagine the architecture of the Wii would be what Nintendo would use to run this. It's compact enough and able to run GCN games as roms perfectly. Maybe that would make more sense financially for them, but either way, yeah, I'd say this is a long ways off regardless. Really fun video!
and a wii is worth about $20 Australian
dedpxl they are talking about making the parts not the system they can still make them
That's what I'd assume, too. The Wii mini wasn't _that_ long ago, they likely still have the tools to make broadway and hollywood chips at reasonable prices. (Especially since they could go for a smaller MEM2) Not sure how expensive HDMI out would be, but GC games don't really need upscaling, simplifying the matter.
Lassi Kinnunen Wii's are crazy cheap on eBay
It would be way cheaper to use parts of the Wii
MLG Cactus yea but it would be too big
@@thedingo5797 not really, if we used a trimmed Wii motherboard and rewire it to fit into the gamecube mini, then give it custom UI and bam GC Mini!!

Awww, the mini Gamecube looks so cute ❤.
Starlink its sooo cool
5:36 the wii can play gamecube games natively and the motherboard can be trimmed much smaller than that huge x86 microboard, like wtf are you saying?
Despo THEMLG That isn’t exactly emulation. It’s running the discs through the original software, which is a lot easier then emulation.
Peach Pie you could easily softmod the wii and install gamecube games on the wii's channels like you would the virtual console games.
They could change some things in the Wii. It requires almost no additional hardware to run Gamecube games. So use the Wii mini as a base and shrink it down. I don't even think it needs to be shrunken that much as it will already be smaller without it's disc drive.
My thoughts exactly, Nintendo could just reproduce the Wii's CPU, add a sleek and modern interface, add more RAM for better loading, and have about 128 gigs of internal storage for 60 games.
And vuala, Gamecube Classic

I can easily play N64 but if I only could play GCN on my Switch -.-
Kuilet GCN core is available for Switch's Retroarch but sadly games are not playable -.- hope it'll be playable on new Switch pro
“You can’t just make a console and have the controller be bigger.”
Wii U: “Watch me.”
All Nintendo has to do is dig up their Wii tech from 2006 and repackage it as a Gamecube mini. It's not even emulation so compatibility would be 100%. It has to be cheap enough to pull off in 2018.
The problem with that idea is IBM has stopped producing PowerPC chips used in the GameCube - WiiU, and ATI aka AMD no longer produces the Hollywood line of GPU tech used in those 3 consoles, and to get it cheap enough we would need to emulate on an ARM SOC, but it would need to be some seriously custom Linux code from the ground up to get good performance, and would need to be at least a 64bit octocore ARM SOC with 4GB of RAM.
You did it! Bravo 👏🏻
You did an amazing job creating what a mini Gamecube could be like in the future. You are very talented with creating classic systems! Do you think it is possible to make a mini Dreamcast system?
TheRetroCube64 yessssssss
Dreamcast is easier to emulate than the GameCube I think. So it should be possible.
That's some hard Work. Nice Job Drew
If It runs Wind Waker, It is a good gaming boi

Yes
Pretty cool mang!!! They did release a cardboard (suprisingly sturdy) Gamecube mini case for small board pcs. Madlittlepixel and ETA Prime had a vid on it a while back but your effort is heaps more commendable. Great job bro!!!!
This is just really cool.
A year ago I would have said emulation is definitely required.. but PowerPC is coming back in a huge and surprising way, and I think the "shrunken Wii mini" idea down below is not only feasible, but might be doable as a "Gen 2" GC Classic for Drew within a few years. Here's hoping!
I'm a simple guy, I see Nintendrew and I click.
That's a little to simple
What if there was a NES Classic 2 with more games but the outside style looks like the top loader

there is a virtual boy emulation for the HTC Vive, might work for smaller cheaper headsets?

dreamcast classic edition?
I like this idea! Not sure if it's possible haha, but I love the thought of a tiny dreamcast. 🤣
Dreamcast actually emulates decently on Android (I have a device called a GPD XD that runs Dreamcast well) so that should make things easier.
spaz 8 bit Flash back already did that
Hi! Cool idea but somebody has already made one! : ) Here's the video! th-cam.com/video/XHBCR5xtrtA/w-d-xo.html
Mr Neddlemouse So....do it again? You can never have too many resource pools for this kinda thing, and assuming otherwise is simply stunting the emulation scene.
This is so cool. Makes me even sadder that Nintendo’s discontinuing the nes and snes classic.
Just take my money already! I need this 💙
in like 50 years we would have a nintendo switch classic
and it would be an inch smaller than the original

The comment was weird; the wink pushed it over the edge
You buggin
I don't know if you tried this, but you can slow the emulated clock speed of the gamecube processor. This enables games to frame skip and do other tweaks to make games run faster, because it thinks you just have a slow gamecube.
Hey Drew! Great video as always! I'm still working on the Super Drew Bros. ROM Hack!
Nintendo: Let's-a go hire this smart boi who should probably use the Wii's hardware?
both project and video are great =]
Considering even the Wii U was basically a rarified GameCube, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if a "classic" take on the system was basically a single-board Wii. They got GameCube miniaturization down to a freaking art.
3:26 gotta go slow
I like your game room! This is an inspiration for me. Congratulations for your channel!.
You got yourself a new subscriber my man!
Nintendo: The game cube is not portable
Me, an intellectual:
WHY DO YOU NOT HAVE MORE SUBS!?!
I never knew you could do that, Very cool
Gotta go slow
This could probably be made with a trimmed down Wii board. The Wii has perfect compatibility with all GameCube titles and can function with a shocking amount of its main board removed, provided essential components are replaced. The front controller ports could use the ports from the top of the Wii. It could also play Wii games as a bonus as long as a sensor bar and wireless module is added. Everything could boot from an SD/MicroSD and run to the TV through Wii component cables. It would require the sacrifice of a functioning Wii or salvaging of one in repairable condition, and a lot of work to fine tune component placement, soldering, cooling, etc, but it would be a cool project with a one of a kind product.

*WANTS TO KNOW YOUR LOCATION*
When I used the Dolphin Emulator on my old Gaming Rig, I used a official WiiU GCN Controller Adapter. (Fully Compatible with Dolphin, and up to 4 controllers to usb.) You can try pluging one of those into a small pc if you want actual GCN hookups for the GCN Mini.
You can use Zadig to modify the Windows USB driver to work with "WUP-028" (adapter's nintendo model no.)
Nice when you get a free PC to build it.
That's awsome nintendrew. I love seeing your DIY projects. I loved your switch arcade. That was so freakin cool. Keep em coming.
Well I know it’s a tiny form factor cube but the wii seemed to emulate a GameCube pretty well (lol) and that was a while back (smh) so who knows what Nintendo has up they’re sleeve to be honest. Great video keep up the great work :)
Good Job! Now you need to make a wii classic, Wii U classic, and Switch Classic.

$150 just for the board? might as well buy an actual gamecube
joebobfickle nah the games are $ 30-50
Try over 100 for first party games like mario party zelda and all of the good ones
just get a used wii and mod it, much more worthwhile
Rebel friend I paid 80$ for twilight princess for the gamecube.
Got one for 25 bucks on eBay, and it works perfectly
Nice work. Definitely a nice DIY project that hits the mark of a Mini, IMO. As for potential cost for them to make, you're off a bit with your estimates. A lot of the Switch's cost comes from the screen, joycons, etc. You need to remember that the Nvidia Shield TV uses the same exact TX2 SOC as the Switch yet it costs half the price. That should be able to run Dolphin quite well, but still may have trouble with some titles that just don't emulate well, just like the Switch. But yeah, you could definitely get something out the door running TX2 SoC or similar for $150, and I think if they were to create a Game Cube Mini @ the $150 price point it would sell well. Maybe even the $175 price point with a controller that they source from a 3rd party (opposed to making their own), there's plenty of 3rd party controllers for GC.
You know the 3ds is a GameCube like powerfully console right?
3DS uses entirely different hardware from the GameCube and it's not powerful enough to emulate it. It would be easier to saceifice a broken Wii for its motherboard and some other parts since it's just upgraded GC hardware anyway.
I'm kinda late to the party but that was amazing!.honestly I'm really getting into computer software so your a great inspiration :)
wii clasic edition [we can always try]
@FatLazyGamer24 we want smaller
good articulation. real easy to understand everything you're saying. also this is sick af
If you used dolphin emulator for the game cube, why not make a mini Wii?
It's cool how you made this. Thanks for sharing man
Wii mini DIY...
It use the same Dolphin emulator
Hah, for your list I was just like 1-2 "Oh easily." 3 "Ahh, that would be the part where it might get challenging."
will there be a mini wii u? .O.
Withered Toy Freddy 1991 Yeah, it's called Nintendo Switch.
Withered Toy Freddy 1991 no
i mean like a full fleged mini wi u that runs mario 3d world
Withered Toy Freddy 1991 I can see some of the best Wii u games ported to switch, in time
Withered Toy Freddy 1991 2030 maybe
The Switch is a decent comparison point for "the kind of system that might be able to run Dolphin". It's based on the same chipset used in a number of phones that are fully capable of playing a number of games on the Android version of Dolphin, but it would still probably struggle slightly without tweaks, much like your build does.
(Basically what I'm saying is despite your saying you're "no expert", you've got a pretty good handle on the current power of embedded systems as far as emulation. Good video.)
