Samsonov anticipation and ball placement plus ➕ control is godlike. He doesn't play with brute force, but with cleverness. Everything looks so simple and slow, if he moves, anyone else would run like crazy. Gentle Giant for sure.
After Timo Boll and Vladimir Samsonov retire the European standard in Men table tennis won't be the same. Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Mattias Karlsson are up there but not quite the same compare to Timo and Samsonov at their prime back in the day. Timo Boll is still going strong and produce amazing performances at his age.
For players who don't use much spin, Samsonov is very diverse. He does not use a lot of spin. He uses some topspin, especially when he's back from the table, very little sidespin and almost no backspin.
No way. He uses a shitload of topspin. It's not very fast that's all (very loopy in comparison to say, M Long, who's shots are much faster). Vladi has always been about spin and not pace. That's how he plays

@@ChessAndNotCheckers Samsonov can use topspin but he blocks a lot and uses simple, efficient strokes.
