Yea. Too short throws or feet on the sideline. Both is done in 99% of professional matches and the kids simply copy. But professional referees don’t care about throw ins at all imo.
Used “the floor is lava” in yesterday’s session. We worked on throw in routines and finished as always with a mini game, (narrow pitch). The only game rule I applied was, “as soon as the thrower picks up the ball - the floor is lava. Anyone standing still - free-kick to the other team, taken from where the person was standing.” This was awesome as often there is a player or 2 who sit back in a defensive position (a little lazy). The movement it created wasn’t structured but it still created much better options for the thrower. It also lifted the concentration levels of the players when the ball went out of play, they all just honed in on when the thrower was about to pick up the ball. Love it. Best tip ever. I think it will be used on other stoppages.
Love the easy-to-understand explanation and concepts here. I haven't taught my u13s enough craftiness and this will help spark the little devil they all have anyway. Thanks for the video coach!
It’s a part of the game we often forget to coach! But timed well can make a huge difference at set pieces! Thanks for taking the time to leave us feedback, really do Appreciate it!
Another helpful vid! Many of my 7U players don't have enough strength/coordination to throw the ball over the heads of opposing players. I prefer to play it safe and have them chuck the ball down the line and have a quick wingman take possession from there. The "hot ball" and "fake throw" ideas are great, and I'll try it with my team next practice! Thanks again!
Another clear, concise and thoughtful video. Definitely see the boys standing too close and too flat a throws. Finally getting the movement and communication needed to implement successful outcomes.
Hey Katherin! Thanks for watching! You can practice these routines as mini drills in your sessions. You then ask kids to run the routines in your games/matches at the end of a session. Give them chance to practice them in matches and check their understanding. You can set up 3 little stations up and down the touch line and split them into groups of 3/4 players to rehearse their routines.
Do your kids struggle with Throw ins? what are the most common things they struggle to get right?
Players have the right idea tactically but throw it short and ends up going to defender.

Keeping back foot down
The floor is Lava! Genius. Will try this with my U9’s this week. Also amazed how quickly you produced this. Ben you are amazing.
Thanks mate! We have. A great team that work on our videos so managed to turn it round super quick! ❤️ let us know how it goes with your kids 😀

These are great ideas I'm going to use for my U9 team. But I'd love to see a visual on HOW this plays out.

@@CatalanSoccer definitely! It's an easy win - one or two sessions on this and you get more danger, creativity and technique!
Have you seen our video on short corner routines??

Fantastic info. Our U9 team struggled big time with throw ins last week. Lots of standing around. Going to use the floor is lava technique sure!

I was just going to ask the same question. Best junior coaching channel on YT Ben. Great work.
