"I've been drinking Athletic Greens for two months and I feel amazing!" Please don't be convinced by stuff like this. Placebo is a hell of a drug, and it feels better to believe AG1 did something then to admit you got took for $100/month. And even if the results are real, it's likely the person had an actual deficiency in some basic essential micronutrient Athletic Greens supplies. You can get all those vitamins and minerals plus some from virtually any multi.

Thank you for this, I was durn close to trying this multiple times! When companies leave key things out while overloading others, I have to avoid my multivitamin or something for the day so as to not overdo certain vitamins. Missing D would be insane to get athletic greens in. I can go a bit too high in my Bs or D for the day but I won't superload any of the fat solubles like E. They sabotaged their own product.

TL:DR- the product is only good, not perfect and its way overpriced. I'm not a vegan and have no interest ever in life turning to veganism, but I was looking for a product to replace having to eat a lot of greens. Is there any products you actually approve of to fill such a niche? And if not, what's the best option of the "not good enough" products? I literally don't have the willpower to eat much greens, the textures and flavors I find vile.

@raspberry May I ask how? I'm genuinely interested. Do u buy bulk ?

    • @rasputozen
      @rasputozen ปีที่แล้ว +11

@@Doe3Love8 I do try to buy bulk for things like oats, rice and beans but that's not always possible or ideal (sometimes you get an inferior product, and also you need some room to store it). Even when I do I can only save about $50-150/yr doing that so it's not a huge savings but it does add up. It saves on waste though which I like; I got a 50lb bag of oats that came in a giant paper bag -- great!! Throw that right on the compost when it's finished. I think the oats are pretty low quality though so not sure I'll do it again with that brand.
If you want to save money, the produce section is your friend. I go to the grocery store about once a month and I get everything I need for that month, lots of fruit and veg and misc things like seeds for granola or soy milk or tortillas or pasta; whatever I need. Now the trick is in keeping your fruit and veg fresh for that 3-4 weeks. Most people know if you cut the dried-out root-ends of veg and put it in a water pot it will last a lot longer. Fewer people know that if you do that same thing but in your fridge you can often get 3-4 weeks out of it if you use the wilting parts of it continually throughout that time. I had to rearrange the shelves of my fridge to make enough headroom to do this. My original layout was more conducive to lots of little packaged and canned foods.
Lastly, I don't go to back to the store until my fridge is completely empty; like I-just-bought-a-new-fridge empty. This cuts down on food waste a lot and as a side benefit you never end up with some random piece of rotting food in a corner stinking up your fridge!
This method of shopping relies on knowing how to cook. The most expensive things you can buy are frozen/pre-prepared meals and bottled/canned stuff. You pay a premium for that luxury (and also a garbage collector!). I like to have a salad and a pot of beans in the fridge continually to use as base ingredients for other dishes. With those I can make tacos, burritos, just salad, and beans to throw in veggie rice/pasta. Veggie rice and veggie pasta are my staples. Just cook the rice/pasta in the final pan and when it's done put in whatever chopped veggies you feel like to steam with the lid on for 2-4 min. After that add in any herbs or spices or spice-blends/pastes (I found an indian one I really like that makes anything taste like curry). The key is to cook the veggies as little as possible. They should retain their bright color and firmness. There are so many flavors and combinations possible with this. At the 3 or 4 week mark a lot of times I'll end up having to use a lot of cabbage and onions for my veggies lol. But you keep learning how much of things to buy the more you do it. It's nothing fancy but it tastes good and is satisfying. I certainly still have many things to learn and improve on in the kitchen!
I kind of rambled here but maybe something in all that will help spark some ideas of your own. Best of luck!

Pick one thing at a time that most interests you and get it under your belt before moving on. Relaxed consistency produces better outcomes. And also if you come up with some crazy idea you think might work, try it! I think life's more fun to live that way. Take care my man!

Yeah, similar to what you said about only hearing about a product through influencers, another red flag is definitely a product website having such an aggressive sales pipeline that throws add-ons at you without much context. Companies that aren't cash-grabs relying on temporary hype will take a softer approach of showing you why you want their products, whereas companies that don't expect repeat customers organically will try to funnel people into making a purchase as fast as possible and slip a subscription service in there with a lower price to basically trick people into giving them repeat business. Thanks for talking about this. These hype-based products don't get called out enough imo.

There are some advantages to something like a greens powder over a multivitamin. The form of the nutrients can be more absorbable and you also get other healthy plant compounds that are great antioxidants and anti-inflammatories. That said, it doesn't mean it's a substitute for a healthy diet or for a supplement regime that's tailored to individual needs, according to a medical professional.
I've been taking barley grass powder for a while now, and it's made a big improvement to my health. I live with several pretty severe chronic illnesses and I find the barley grass helps add nutrients to my mostly-vegan diet, especially on the days I'm too sick to prepare healthy, balanced meals. It's given me more energy.
I buy unflavoured barley grass powder in bulk, because that is cheapest for me. The taste is... well I wouldn't say it's pleasant - I call it my Swamp Juice lol - but it's much less unpleasant than other green powders, especially wheatgrass. I will continue taking it because it makes me feel so much better, but I can understand if for some people, these sorts of supplements are not worth the cost.

I have refused to use ag1 for a long time, even though a few of my friends take it regularly,
A friend of mine gave me his travel packs for free and insisted I take it, I've taken it for 4 days(as I was only given 4 travel pscks) and I have to say I just ordered my first monthly subscription,
I've struggled with feeling lethargic throughout my days, moody when stressed and just an overall feeling of low energy, since I've been drinking ag1 in the mornings my sleep has been noticeably more peaceful, my energy and mood have improved more than I would ever expect,
It smells like an energy drink lol, the taste is rather bland, and yes it has a slight chalky consistency but overall the benifits I've seen are worth the 2 minutes it takes to chug the cup,
Just my personal experience, but as someone who went into using it expecting it not to do much I'm sold

Hi, thanks for this video! I just discovered it through a youtube rec. I started AG in february and was pretty skeptical, but I was listening to Huberman at the time, and he seemed to be pretty interested in good science and recommended it (I'm now getting pretty skeptical of him too, haha). I'm sure you're aware of this, but it is exhausting in this day and age to try and figure out a regimen and try to make sure you're getting X,Y,Z and avoiding A,B,C. There is no central authority that lays things out clearly (as far as I'm aware), there is alot of individual variability, and there are a million people either trying to make a buck or just evangelize their lifestyle (probably to make a buck). So I kinda just went with it because I was tired of decision paralysis, and I didn't want to have to combine a bunch of different things, I wanted to believe what they were saying. After watching this, I am going to cancel AG, I'll probably look into the supplements you recommend, and am looking forward to going through some of your other videos. For reference, I am a very physically active 'lazy pescatarian' - so I need to figure out very simple, consistent ways for me to get adequate nutrition because I am not one who likes to spend time shopping, perusing farmers markets for fresh vegetables, or prepping food. I usually go for 10 minute/3 ingredient meals. Also I'll add that honestly, AG doesn't taste bad at all. Not a big deal to glug down 10 ounces of it every morning, just sounds like its not worth it. Anyway, great stuff, much appreciated, keep it up! sSorry for the long post, I'm bored in an airport right now :)

My husband bought this and was very much sucked into the marketing around it - he was convinced you could not get any other product that was a good as this one. We are based in Australia, so it cost us even more than $100 to order some (we paid $180 AUD for one month supply 😮). HOWEVER, what I will say is that my husband is super lazy at getting good food into his diet, and I wasn’t against him trying something that might “boost” his lacking diet 😂. That said, I ended up finding a product VERY similar that you can buy here in Australia for a fraction of the cost ($60AUD for about 1.5 month worth). I got him to compare the ingredients/benefits and when he could see they were near identical, he switched over.
I completely agree that you can (& should) get all the vitamins and minerals for just from having a healthy diet, but I know my hubby will never go to that effort, and I do think having something like this as a booster for those who don’t eat particularly well is not exactly a bad thing. I’d def shop around and find a cheaper alternative to this overpriced product!

Sooo this is cheesy. But! You’ve really inspired me, since the beginning of the year I’ve been transitioning to a more plant based diet. With veganism as the end goal. Working 60 hours a week on a construction site, it’s been difficult. But 99% of my meals at home (and take to work lunches) are vegan! And meals out are vegetarian/vegan if there’s an option.
I don’t really discuss my diet with others because I work in a very male saturated work environment. But my mom is kind of coming around to it and since I’m the main cook in the house, she’s enjoying some of the meals I’m making now!
