production values are crazy high. the cubicles all being able to be knocked down is so unnecessarily impressive. most games nowadays wouldn't even have something like that lol
Looking at the framerate, it’s much less impressive. Wish they could’ve tone things down to at least achieve locked 30, since currently it’s horrible to play thanks to horrible framerate.

I'm tired of 100% non interact able world's. It's boring. We had games on PS2/PS3 where you could level entire cities. Now you'll be lucky if you get to break a bottle or even a window.
This game had no right to be in ps2, especially with THAT high production value, this should've been a early PS3 exclusive. the fact that, they spend it every penny in this game to make it impressive rather than just another cheap licenced cash grab title of that era, is simply astonishing

@@Onmysheet Maybe. Keep in mind how wonky the CELL is, most devs at 06 shat on the PS3 and how difficult it was to use. It most likely would have worse fps.

4:05 There are also at least two tie-in books about 24 (that I've read for whatever reason, they're exactly the kind of wannabe Tom Clancy dimestore thrillers you'd expect) with original stories, so Jack Bauer has had at least 11 exceptionally bad days at work.
Yeah i mentioned that, the books kinda work, i got one for like $1 and its fun but forgetable, recent seasons, exist...
Also, lets not forget that 9th season that happens in London, so in total he had 12 stupidly bad days overall.
If you count all the 24 books, comics, seasons, mobile games and this game, Jack Bauer has had around 40 really bad days.

Also there's a Japanese spinoff of 24, because it was apparently extremely popular there.
My favorite jack Bauer moment was when a terrorist swallowed a SIM card so Jack couldn’t know who the terrorist called. Jack responsed by gutting the guy and taking the sim card from the dudes stomach. Jack pit the sim into his phone and found out who the mastermind was. Completely absurd

jack is an absolute beast. there is this one time he needs to get back with some mafia guys he was undercover with and they would not trust jack if he just showed up so he finds a guy in prison who ratted out on the mafia guys, has him transferred to ctu, goes into one of those lockup rooms to "interrogate" him and the guy is like you cant do this to me i know my rights, jack simply takes out a knife and just foooking beheads the guy in front of tony without saying a word. all that so he could take the head to the mafia guys and make them trust him. And what even more absurd is that the guy is not even some big bad terrorist hes just some guy yeah a criminal but just some guy and jack freaking beheads him like nothing.
As long as they don't say fuck or so any titty on American TV, it's all good 😎
Or after season 2 or 3, in the final minutes (spoiler): jack died in that season. Got revived. Tortured. So after all that he breaks down behind his wheel crying. Completely relatable: Mondays, right? But he gets interrupted by Chloe saying that something new came up. Jack: sure, on my way.

I remember when this dropped me and my Dad were huge 24 fans, but he couldn't care much about video games.
When he saw me play this it just blew his mind. He watched me play the entire game to follow the story 😂
and unlike a lot of other tie ins, this game actually told a story that gave you relevant info, like how and why Kim started at CTU, how Chase came to become Jack's field partner, etc.

It's impressive how good some PS2 games looked, even if they ran horribly. This game looks really good, even better in some parts. Destruction/physics are pretty good as well.
A lot of games don't even do this anymore which is weird. Even the newest Battlefield has pretty much no destruction, and what it does have is a huge step back. I've been replaying CoD 3, albeit on the Xbox 360, and there's so much physics in that game and actually quite a lot of dynamic destruction, like walls being blown up or bricks being shot apart and you lose your cover. Doors get shot apart and I'm pretty sure they hang and slant depending on where they were shot. CoD doesn't do anything like that anymore either.
Shadow of the Colossus immediately comes to mind. It runs like poo, but is basically a PS3 game (in terms of scope, ambition, animation, technology, etc.) that is somehow running on the PS2 at all.
I think some of that is 'looks like a PS2 game' is used as a derogatory term nowadays.
they could've been done much better on xbox or gamecube but it was mainly the popularity of the ps2 that forced devs to produce for it
capitalism is ruining the games industry, every big publisher just force their devs to make cash grabs. Since detail and polish is something that takes time it's immediately sacrificed for the bottom line. The Call of Duty franchise could actually still be good, if they focus on making a good game instead of how to make money quick.

I'd like to see you cover the X-Files PS2 game. It has all the original cast and plays like a mid-2000's survival horror game, but with way more David Duchovony.
That game genuinely kicks ass. Incredible silent hill/racoon city outskirts vibes, such great atmosphere. AK-47 is sooo satisfying to shoot haha I think it's such an underrated gem of a game. Area 51 (also on ps2 With the D-Cuv's voice) is similarly underrated and is a graphical powerhouse. like, the lighting in that game is ridiculous.

As someone that has grown up with this show and LOVED/LOVE it to death, this game was the shit to me back in the day. I haven't seen the vid yet, but just talking from my pov. Imo, this game captures the style of this show to a T. From the sound effects, to the music, to the lighting, color grading and camera work. It's insane how they even got details right like how they used to shoot for example dialog scenes. Where they in the show would have two over the shoulder shots and one like profile shot where they would switch from one person talking to the other one. Even with the right zooming they did with that switching shot, it's insane how many details they captured and as a major fan of this show, that stuff if pretty mind-blowing and you can tell that it's made by people that loved the show.
But when it comes to gameplay it can get a bit repetitive and the ''real time'' aspect of the show is nowhere to be found. Even in cutscenes, they will just teleport characters from one location to another. Also the frame rate wasn't always the best and the storyline is kinda a missed opportunity. Because in season 3, they hinted at jack having gone undercover with the Salazar's and that's why he had a drug addiction (that only played a part in like the first 3 episodes). So they easily could've done a plot around that, since this game is supposed to take place between season 2 and 3. Also, Jack's heart problems that he got at the end of season 2 are also nowhere to be found, and nothing that happens in this game ever plays a role in season 3.
And I remember as a kid HATING those driving levels with a passion. Those driving levels were the reason I've never finished it as a kid and I just ended up watching all the cutscenes with a cheat code unlocking all the levels. Also, screw those mini/hacking games. Some are okay, but most are trash.
Also, can I just say that 24 is EXTREMELY underrated! Like, no one ever is talking about it really any more, even though it used to be a huge deal back in the day and was from the same era as shows like Lost and Prison Break. And it has influenced so many other shows and was pretty groundbreaking at the time. I remember as a kid actually shaking, because it was so tense to me. I've rewatched every season like a year ago, and it aged so well and it's so well-made and it has such a good flow to it. I mean, it had 8 seasons, a 9th season in 2014, a spin-off show, and it even had a film. It's so weird to me how forgotten this show is. Personally, I still own every season on DVD and Blu-ray and I hope someday that every season is gonna be released on Blu-ray.

I think cop shows in general aren't as popular with younger generations who seem to be (rightly, in my opinion) seeing through the "hero cop" narrative pushed by the police and reinforced by media. There's obviously still an audience for them-- NCIS is on, what, season 27 now?-- but public conversation is taking police brutality and even the concept of police and prison abolition much more seriously than any time in the last 40-50 years, from what I've seen, and I think that has an effect on what concepts audiences are willing to buy into.
As for back nearer when the show finished, I think a similar thing happened to Lost. That show was a HUGE deal for so long (and like 24 I never watched it lol) and people talked about it for longer, but eventually, people moved on, and now it's really only discussed nostalgically, rather than being analyzed and speculated about. I wonder if there's a sort of "phenomenon fatigue" that shows that aren't such runaway successes don't suffer from. Like, ads played for it all the time, people were discussing it constantly, episodes would rebroadcast almost every day so if you missed it you could catch up... and once it was over a lot of people might have gone "that was exhausting, let's not think about it for a while. What else is on?" 24 might have experienced that.
I really enjoyed 24 as well. I never watched it when it originally aired but I think I remember binging the 1st 3 seasons of it years back & just being completely hooked by it.
All I remember about 24 (a bit young for it at the time) was the controversy about all the torture.

I'm a big 24 fan. I can appreciate this game as an S-tier technical accomplishment. It's great for fans of the show who will enjoy more of Jack Bauer's story, but I wouldn't recommend it to non-fans. It unfortunately falls short in several areas, especially the car missions. God I hate them.
Imagine if Melbourne House handled the game. They're basically known for whatever dark rituals they do to make the PS2 dance like in the Transformers Armada game.
I remember not finishing the game (because video game backlog), but was like pretty far into it because i enjoyed the game. Definately a 7/10, leaning more on 8 with the interrogating dialogue

24 would be a great game to play on the PCSX2 emulator. It would stabilize the dodgy frame rate and run at a much higher resolution.
unfortunately it's pretty dodgy on PCSX2 still, but it has improved a lot the last few years

@@minimme That's too bad. A few years ago I tested Gran Turismo 4, Yakuza 2 and a few other games. I am a huge fan of the PS2 era of games and love to see them in all their hi-def and higher frame rate glory.

@@SK91NO I used to play games on a crappy RCA television. Later on I bought a nicer Sony TV with S-video and component connections, a definite upgrade. I'm still really impressed with what emulators can do nowadays, far surpassing visual quality and fidelity of anything back in the day.
14:50 that sequence looks awesome. It's cool that there were games that everyone overlooked that still tried to mix things up and tried to put a twist on the typical gunplay.
I think people underestimate how much having "something to look at" helps make what could be a repetitive section more fun. Even if in practice it is the same gameplay you've been doing for hours, doing stuff like this game having the news helicopter watching you and getting to see what you're doing from its perspective makes the moment more memorable and interesting. Little touches and flourishes go a long way, even if they're relatively minor.

Looking back and finding new things to love about old media is what nostalgia is really about, but every other content creator’s approach is just “look how stupid we were for liking the things we liked when we were younger.” While it can sometimes be fun to absorb that content, there’s never any attempt to understand why we liked it in the first place, when the best part of returning to old media is that you get to experience it as two people: the wise adult-you with discerning taste, and the child-you that discovered it and experienced it for the first time when every concept felt new and exciting. Your content captures both perfectly and it really stands out among the piles of other video game content. Keep doing what you’re doing, I love it!

The splitscreen stuff reminds me of another PS2 game I loved called The Plan (spelled out as Th3 Plan). It does very similar things while also being a stealth game. It was made by Eko Software (who I think nowadays are best known for the How to Survive games) and Monte Cristo (who haven't done much of anything noteworthy, but I have heard of that 7 Sins game they did)

Oh yes, the game features Meat Loaf, Limp Bizkit, and fuckin' Abe Lincoln in the same game. Also, the cutscenes are hilariously bad.
@@Mace2.0 Yeah, I laughed my ass off when I saw Fred Durst was in the game. The entire roster and arenas are so obscure. Like, you can fight in the restaurant Tyler works at, the airport that Jack visits while looking for Tyler... it's such a stretch.

I remember when this came out and being a big fan of the show I had to get the game. The game wasn't all that great but I kept going because how strong the plot was and how it felt like 24. I would love to see someone do another 24 game and do it right, So far the closest thing to a 24 game is Splinter Cell: Blacklist.
Splinter Cell Blacklist is amazing! For some reason it seems to be ignored by SC fans but I've played every SC game and Blacklist is the top dog for me.

Just gotta say I really enjoy your reviews. You look for the good in things rather than complaining about problems or nitpicking.
I remember renting this game when it first came out, and I was so confused and bummed out that I was playing a M rated shooter with no blood. Edgy teenage me could not enjoy the game after that lol. It was so confusing, because I remember playing a demo of it with blood, but then the full game replaced it with smoke. I'm probably the only person that cares but i would love to know details on why they did that. That being said, I do remember being impressed with the graphics and physics though.
Liscence styled gta games are always deeply fascinating.

Great review! I remember renting this game from blockbuster as a teen. I know exactly what you mean about the genre of this game, in the same bag as The Godfather, Reservoir Dogs, and Sopranos games. All those ps2 gta clone tv tie ins. What’s kind of funny is that while my parents wouldn’t let me play gta, they did let me play these games because they liked the movies. Oh the early 2000s hahah!

My Dad randomly bought Primal when I was a kid and I remember loving that game
As a massive fan of the "24" series and Jack Bauer throughout the 2000s, I bought this back in 2006 as soon as it came out. For a good while it was one of my favorite PS2 games. It certainly is one of the games I played the most across any console I ever had.

I got 24 the game for $2.50 because this videogame store does a 4-$10 on og xbox/ps2 games. This was a pretty solid game! One of the more memorable moments to me was interrogating a guy from Little Seoul, and i didnt believe him jokingly until he booked it out the back door, cutscene and everything. He got away the first time from not processing the whole thing, but got him on 2nd attempt.

For PS2 graphics it is actually pretty stunning. God of War on PS2, especially the 2nd one I think were the best looking of the games I played on PS2.
I still have this game on my shelf
The level of excitement I get for these uploads is ridiculous lol
I have played this game a lot when I was 9-10 years old. I've never even watched TV show and at that time don't understand any word in English(I live in Russia, but game never been translated), but that was the only game that was available for me at that period of time. I've also never have ps2, but can play for free at the store where they sell consoles and games. They put that game in the console and almost every day after the school I came to that sore and play 24: the game, unfortunately, I never had a chance to beat it, they didn't have a memory card, so every day I start new game and tried to beat it as fast as possible, I've even reached the last mission few times, but for some reason I died all the time and the store was always closing every time. I've played that game so many hours, that I can even quote some dialogs in pure English without any understanding what I'm saying.
I've beat that game recently on emulator, that bring me back so many good memories, I have no regrets abut that game.
this looks like one of those games you'd only see a bombastic trailer and be excited to play only for it to be cancelled or never show up again
I've always wanted a remaster or remake of this game. Plus a sequel
