    Thank you soooo much for showing the Mortar repair mix! I had to order it online as my Home Depot or Lowe’s did not carry it. It arrived earlier today and I eagerly applied it to several pieces I’m working on. As they say “the proof is in the pudding” so we have a few hours to wait but I think it’s the answer to many problems I’ve been having with my creations! I’ll let you know how they turn out in a day or so. But it was so easy to work with! Again thank you so much I truly appreciate your videos.

    Rather than letting it dry and sanding I have good, immediate results by pressing in excess concrete fix and then gently dribbling or sponging water over it until shaped and smooth. Then let dry overnight.

    Question please. I have a statue where there is a thin crack through the ‘legs’ . It is thin with a small piece of the rebar showing. I know I need to remove any rust that has started showing and prime the rebar. I have needle injectors that I use to inject glue on wood projects. I am not sure what to use to inject into the crack to adhere the concrete in the crack.
    Thank you for these videos.

    Thanks for posting this. I have a Q: how do I repair a giant statue that broke mid chest (buddha)? It's too heavy to lift off completely. I believe there's rods inside because a part of her arm broke off too & I can see the thick wire/rod that extends up into her shoulder. (This statue weighs approx 100kg!). I'm assuming I just pack as much of this in as I can? Will it hold together? Also, she's a gritty type of statue all over including inside - like volcanic rock but denser. Black/dark brown in colour. Do you suggest adding oxide and if yes, what consistency should I aim for? I hope to fix her and have the broken & missing gritty parts done so she looks the same all over.

      Always use a 100% acrylic water base as a base coat (I use flat black exterior) and make sure the statue is clean. Soak it down with water making sure it nice and wet so the paint stains the concrete. I always water down my paint a bit and wet my brush often. Also I use 2 coats for the base before adding any colour (not necessary but imo it looks fantastic) after the base coat it dry and make sure it's completely dry before adding your colour. You could use any colour acrylic craft paint. Won't Crack or peel away. If you want to add a top coat enamel you can use a spray paint can and lightly cover the piece. Your not looking to seal the paint just give it a shine. It's been experienced that completely sealing in a statue for the reason to protect it actually over time can cause loss of life and damages. Hope this helps

    I have a Jesus concrete statue that belonged to my parents. It was given to them when they lost their 1st son in ‘65. Im the youngest of the 8 children. I took the statue to my home when my Dad passed & my Mom went to NH with dementia. Somehow it became all white, not sure if paint wore down after time. The wrists & fingers have metal rods exposed & some fingers are gone. I can see the metal rod in wrist & some protruding out where the fingers once were. It is very heavy so it never made it to my backyard. It is displayed in the front of my house an is kinda an eye sore. I was going to set it on lawn & smash it up to be discarded but my heart won’t let me. I found someone locally that will repaint it but can’t fix the wrists & fingers. I’m looking into seeing if it can go up to their headstones where my Dad & brother lay to rest & at some point my mother too. If it isn’t allowed then I was going to give it to the church for somewhere they could display it. It’s to beautiful & sentimental to be discarded. Do you have any suggestions for repairs. Not sure how to send pics out to you. Thank you,, Monique

    Hi, I just started making statues that are about 14" tall (lions) I used the same concrete mix that you use the Quikrete fast setting (the red bag) mixed it according to the instructions. I waited 5 hrs and for some reason the statue is missing details (like the nose and nails) and I can also see the gravel from the concrete. Do you have any suggestions or what I may be doing wrong? It's not a latex mold its a plastic mold by the way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 🙏🏼

    • @victoria653
      @victoria653  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      try mixing it a bit runnier. Instead of 5litres of water, mixer with 6-7 liters of water. Make sure you shake the mold a lot or get a concrete vibrator to get out the air bubbles, sounds like are bubbles is your issue. Just make sure you do not water it down too much.

    I have two of the 38" tall concrete stone cherub planters statues that are now about 10 years old. The planter (vase) portion of both statues now have cracks in them and on one of the statues the cracks have actually caused a separation such that the top of the vase can now be lifted completely away from the base. Based on your video it looks as though I could use the Quickrete fast set to mend the statues but I am wondering if after I have done so, will the planters continue to hold the rain water or will the rain water cause the Quickrete to breakdown? I can send you a picture of the statues Thanks!

      Not sure if they will hold water, could always seal it after its dries and that could work. Use several coats of sealer until water beads!

    I just bought an old rooster statue, the beak is missing, about the size of your first joint of your thumb. Should I drill in a piece a wire for that small of a repair? Also, it was painted black at one time and I like the look of it as is, how can I "match" the repair with the rest of the statue? Wish I could show you a pic, he's pretty darn "cocky" just love him! thanks!

    About 15 years ago I got a set of three concrete (Portland cement) deer. Very vintage. A sweet little family. The other day I noticed the Mama deer has long cracks in her front legs. We don't get super hot or super cold weather here (SoCal), so I can't understand why the cracks are appearing now. Although: they have been sitting in full sun for years and years. Question: the deer are a sort of "fawn" - colored yellow. You said use acrylic craft paint and add it to the cement? Any special tips? I really don't want the repairs to be obvious. Any luck with this type of cracking/filling in?

    • @jeremiahblundon4877
      @jeremiahblundon4877 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi I do statuary myself. I have no affiliation with this channel but thought I would offer some knowledge to you, to point you in the right direction. For the cracks on the statue; if the statues are made with just Portland cement then that may be why they're starting to crack. Concrete is actually a mixture of sand, gravel and portland cement with each component playing their role. If they were made with just Portland Cement then it could be that there is a weaker bond than you would have with traditional concrete. There are also types of concrete sealers out there that can cause damage over time.
      If you're looking to fill the cracks, then there are a couple products that you can use; both will have a different color than the original paint/concrete color so it is advised to repaint it after the repairs are done. For the products you have your choice of what Mr. Wheeler did here with the Mortar stuff or you can buy a bag of Portland Cement and do the same thing; I personally fix air bubbles and any cracks with Portland Cement, a 50 pound bag of that will run ya around $10. Regardless of which product you decide to use, the method is the same. Mix a bit of water with it so it's peanut butter consistency, fill any holes/cracks with it and then let it dry for a day or two. The only difference that I see between the two products is that the mortar mix seems to dry quicker and requires sanding whereas the portland cement requires a day or two to fully dry before painting but doesn't require much sanding when it's done. This method can be done with adding chip parts back on as well.
      As mentioned before, both products will leave a darker color where the repairs were. So it's recommended to repaint them after fixing them. Here you have a couple options in terms of the finish but no matter what you decide to do I highly recommend base coating any pieces that you decide to re-paint as it will make the coat last longer, then you can decide wheather you want dry brush it or actually paint it. Before going into any of the methods, we should cover the products to you. You are going to want EXTERIOR grade latex or acrylic paint that is water based. You want exterior as it's obviously going to be outside so you want it be weatherproof. As for latex or acrylic it really doesn't matter too much the most important thing is if it's water based. I've come to find out that it's much harder to find the exterior water based acrylic in big amounts rather than the latex water based;' so because of that I just go to Lowe's and buy a gallon of exterior latex paint that you would paint the outside of your house with. Seeing how you only have a couple statues I understand that you wont want to spend that much on paint so I have found a product for smaller projects. It's called "Folk Art Outdoor" paint, it comes in like 8 oz bottles for like $3-$5 each. It's exterior acrylic paint that is water based; I personally haven't used it but if I was to buy a color at a small scale, this is what I would use. Make sure it says OUTDOOR on it as that is exterior grade, everything else Folk Art sells is interior and will chip in the sun after a couple months.
      As for the method of painting, you're going to want to base coat it which is putting some paint in a cup and adding a bit of water into it to make it somewhat runny. I usually use black or grey but you can basecoat it with any color that you want. This is why you need water based paint as oil based paint will not mix with the water at all and you can't use it to basecoat it. The runniness of the paint will allow the paint to get into all the small spots of the statue and soak into the statue really nice. Once you mix the water and paint in a cup you'll want to soak your statue before applying the paint; I personally submerge the whole statue in water for a couple minutes before I base coat my stuff.
      Once the basecoat dries then you can decide what you want to finish it as. A lot of people just dry brush them which makes it look stone or aged finish and just highlights the high and low marks of the statue and other people legit paint them to look very realistic. It's all personal preference,. Some statues I'll dry brush and other statues I'll legit paint; both work fine and both look great. It's hard to explain the "dry brush" technique but if you youtube it then many things will come up.
      Finally once you're done painting it you can decide if you want to put a sealer on it. I personally don't put any sealer on my statues that I sell and they've held up just fine in Western NY where we get lake effect snow. Like I mentioned before, there are some sealers that actually damage statues over time so if you're going to put anything on it then I would just go buy clear enamel spray for $5 and do that. That is more for the color than the actual concrete though. Enamel spray comes in three types, flat (no shine), semi-gloss (a little shine) and then full gloss. That is all up to personal preference as well.
      It's a lot of information so if you need someone to check out then I would suggest "Rubber Mold Man" on youtube (Not sure if Mr Wheeler has any videos on this topic, he might have one or two). He's in the middle of doing a series of videos that covers all this information that I just put up. Any older videos are just as good as the information doesn't change really over time but a lot of people feel more comfortable with newer content.
      I hope this helped ya and good luck repairing those statues :D
