  • The first of a series of videos on painting concrete statues. We start with the base coat of black paint after wetting the statue so that the paint is absorbed into the concrete.

    Your video was informative and entertaining. Thank you!
    I picked up a broken cement mushroom from the town Bulk Trash and I learned that I can repair with mortar. And now thanks to your video I know how to paint them!

    To save on paintbrushes, here's what I do. I get a 5 gallon bucket & fill about half full with water & then dump your exterior acrylic latex paint into this bucket of water & stir to mix. (I mix the paint in the can before pouring into bucket of water) stir well & take your statue & dunk into the bucket after you wet it with water. So much faster & easier. You can do several in less amount of time it takes you to do 1 by hand. Just a little FYI. I used a dark gray color as my base coat, but black works too.

      I have considered it but the majority of my statues are too big to fit in a 5 gallon bucket!!! 🤔🤔🤔

      @@crewsvilleadventures I have that way too. When I do I just dip one end in all the way & then flip over & do other end. You could also get one of those huge tubs from Walmart that ppl like me use to store Christmas stuff in. They are large rectangle & deep. Maybe an option depending on sizes. 🤔

    I watch so many you tube videos. Shocked me to find out you’re local. And didn’t know Barnyard had these. Thanks for the info.

      The Barnyard in Columbia - but I don’t know if he has them anymore as he has sold most of it and concentrated on a restaurant at the flea market now.

    Its easier to dunk the statues in a bucket mixed with half paint and half water. For bigger statues use a spray bottle , saves you so much time!

      Tell me more about this spray bottle for larger statues - is it still half and half mixture? A regular spray bottle?

    Do you paint/seal the bottoms to avoid future water absorption?

    • @crewsvilleadventures
      @crewsvilleadventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      I do not and have never had an issue with it over the past several years of having them outside. I also don’t get super cold temps though.

    Does the statue need to be dry before you add the black paint?

    • @crewsvilleadventures
      @crewsvilleadventures  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No! You want it to be wet as it absorbs the paint better!

      I do not. You can look up Rubber Mold Man - he has a website and sells molds.

      @crewsvilleadventures  ปีที่แล้ว

      I use exterior latex paint for all the statues per the recommendation of other concrete painters. I don’t know about chalk paint.

    I thought you were supposed to soak it in water first

    • @crewsvilleadventures
      @crewsvilleadventures  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I usually wet them but they dry fast! Watered down black paint also helps it absorb nicely.
