    Just found this video, nice job..I live in Grand Junction, and your right the ride over the Grand Mesa, aka Thunder Mountain is great especially in the fall. There's much more to see around Grand Junction including Eastern Utah which I love. I am just in the process of setting up my Dual Sport (Enduro), sorry, I'm old school, turn 62 next month 2019! The CSC TT259 will be my 21st bike! I will be doing a video on these up and coming Chinese bikes. Thanks for the info..

    Thanks for your reply- in short I sat on the L model and darn it was comfortable the rally just seems so top-heavy. I know I could put a windshield like yours and make it adventure ready -it’s same basic bike. I’m 5 foot 10

    I was about to ask if the ol' X 300 would have screamed up those grades. Then I remembered when I wore a young man's clothes, some of my best times were going slower on an XL250 in the Pacific Cascades. Sweet! Thanks for sharing. 👍

    • @DRaged920
      @DRaged920  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, the X 300 would have done better. It is certainly more road worthy. But, I do agree that there is something to traveling slower. Plus when I get to Mexico, the speed limits are like 50 and 55 mph, so I will fit right in. Slow travel does not fit so well in the USA though. Still, I had a great trip and the little 250 make a nice tiny adventure bike.

    great video i like it, if the Honda had a bit more power and a better seat it would be a perfect bike for touring, city, bush. I have the 2020 model and i like riding a lot apart from getting a sore ass. I'm watching from Western Australia. Stay safe and "Ride On"

    Enjoying your post of the mods and your journeys. I recently bought a 2018 Honda crf230l and like to install a vista throttle lock. Could you please give me some tips on how you install the vista-cruise on your bike? It appears that I may need to do some modifications on the throttle.

    • @DRaged920
      @DRaged920  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the throttle tube comes with a stupid ridge that needs to be removed. I just cut it away and sand it smooth. Then the vista cruise lock will fit. Also, on the throttle lock, I cut away the plastic nub that is ment to lock-in to the throttle cables because that nub is never in the right place. Then I use silicone glue to fix the lock (just on half the lock) to the throttle housing so it does not spin and will lock the throttle tube in place.

    • @DRaged920
      @DRaged920  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, you could certainly use it as a seat around the fire. Mine would have to be unbolted and removed to do it. I don't have it on any quick release system. But, it could be done.

    • @jahbay
      @jahbay 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DRaged920 yeah it would be cool to unbolt your toolbox. I think if you cut down on your gear a little bit you can clean up your bike aerodynamically. Obviously you would save weight in the process. I myself have a stock 2018 CRF250L rally. The first thing I did was an oversized tank. I only gain 3/4 a gallon but I shave off a ton of weight. The key does small bikes is weight, aerodynamics, proper gearing and minor power mods. I don't know about yours but mine will comfortably do 7000 RPM all day long. I like the video, keep them coming.

  • @RidersInBlack
    @RidersInBlack 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Nice video. I know that the rear suspension in stock form, on CRF250L and Rally's is known to be very soft. I'm the same weight as you (200) but 5'10. Did you find that riding with or without gear made a big difference on the rear shock over bumps and bounces?

    • @DRaged920
      @DRaged920  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, it is very soft. On the road, with or without gear, I don't mind it. It is like a magic carpet. Off road with some woops or jumps, it is terrible.

  • @allans7281
    @allans7281 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great video thanks for all the info. I’m curious what are your thoughts on the Honda 250 rally -is that better for more adventure /road riding?

    • @DRaged920
      @DRaged920  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I love the look of the Rally, but there are a couple reasons I did not go that direction. 1) I wanted more fuel capacity than 2.6 gal. I have the IMS tank on mine at 3.5 gal and figured that would not be an option on the Rally 2) I did not want all the extra plastic...that looks cool. I like the windscreen and the accessory bar on the Rally, but really wanted longer fuel range. I guess in short, I could customize the L easier than the Rally, but right off the dealer floor, the Rally would be ready to go.

    Can you give me any tips I'm a 50 something 6' 4" 230 lb person who's about to take his driving class for the first time I don't own a motorcycle yet never have. My dream bike is the KLR650 but since it doesn't have abs I'm starting to look at the 250l and 250 L rally as well as the versys 300. I really don't care about a lot of power for my first motorcycle but something I can learn on mostly Street driving but also some light to moderate off-road. Eventually I would like to take a small part of the trans-america trail. right now I Envision driving around town maybe driving an hour and a half down to Branson Missouri as well as dirt and gravel roads and maybe some easy trails

    • @DRaged920
      @DRaged920  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Welcome to motorcycles bro. I owned the Versys X300 for about a year and really loved it. However, I was using it to ride in the dirt with my 11 year old son and it was just not very good for that. So, that is why I bought the CRF250L. The riding you are talking about, the Versys would be great (but not for the TAT). For your size, you might find the CRF250L on the small side and lacking torque that you need. For a new rider, torque can make riding a little easier. There really is not a do it all motorcycle out there even though the adventure motorcycles are sold that way, it is false. You may also consider the Vstrom 650 or the Versys 650. Those would be better all around bikes, but you will need something different for the TAT. Personally, I am waiting for the Tenere 700, KTM 790 Adventure and the KTM 390 Adventure to come out and I will be putting one of those in my garage. They look to be the best all around bikes ever. Good luck and be safe.

    • @UhYeahWhateverDude
      @UhYeahWhateverDude 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      6’4”? There are a lot of great bikes out there for you. But like was mentioned above, you don’t want to get too underpowered, because even as a beginning rider, you will very quickly realize an appropriate amount of power is actually safer and makes the bike more manageable. Not sure how much you want to spend, but a used Versys 650 could be good, all the way up to maybe a KTM 690 Enduro R, if you end up getting off road more that planned. In my opinion, a 250/300 won’t cut it for you, not at 230 lbs. Anyway, have fun!

  • @daynmitchell7543
    @daynmitchell7543 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really want to get the CRF(the price is unbeatable) but I do worry about the soft suspension. I'm 6'3 272lbs the most offroad I'll be doing is fire roads and gravel so I think it should be fine. This bike actually makes more torque than the WRR.

    • @DRaged920
      @DRaged920  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I am 6'3', 200 lbs and about too big for the little CRF. I am sure it would haul you around, but have you considered the XR650L? That may be a better fit. I have been really opposed to the old out-of-date motorcycles like the 650L and that is why I bought the 250L, but the 650 would probably suit me better. The 250L does everything okay, but it does not like highway speeds if there is wind or hills. At some point, I will likely upgrade to the CRF450L, but that bugger is expensive and needs frequent oil changes. I am always searching for the perfect machine, but that is like finding a unicorn. Best of luck Vita!
