"I want to say a little something that's long overdue, The disrespect to women has got to be through". To all the mothers and the sisters and the wives and friends, I want to offer my love and respect to the end"...I always loved this line as it is rarely done in Hip-Hop. MCA was basically talking about how they used to treat women when they were younger and even have a song called, "Girls" where it talks about what you're thinking of. The older they got, the more they realized they were wrong and vowed to never play that song again.
MCA is so impressive for this line. Later on he was questioned whether he was a hypocrite for how they used to treat women, and his response was, "I'd rather be a hypocrite than the same person my whole life."
The line about the disrespect to women has got to end, was MCA apologizing for how they talked about women on their first couple of albums. Adam went on personal journey & came out the other side much more mature.
from what I've heard, a woman who was their tour manager or some such told them how excluded she felt and that really hit them and they decided to stop being such douchebags.
Also apologizing for the song “Girls” from the first album (when they were teenagers) that had lines like: Girls, to do the dishes Girls, to clean up my room Girls, to do the laundry Girls, and in the bathroom Check out the “Beastie Boys Story” movie from 2020. Directed by Spike Jonze, who also did this video and “Sabotage”.
It was far more than just a song they did, they certainly went through a womanizing phase, there is a clip of them of mtv putting their hands down a woman’s pants. They are certainly hypocrites preaching about respecting women, but at least they changed their mindset Frankly the world would be a much nicer place with more respect all around
Spike Jonze directed this video, along with Sabotage, and maybe a couple other Beastie Boys hits. He's won an Academy Award (Oscar) for his work in film, which he moved into after a very successful career as a music video director. Being John Malkovich, Adaptation, and Her are some of his award winning/nominated films.
I graduated in 1984 and more kids in our school had single parents than those with both married parents at home and that was 40 years ago. Next year will be my 30th wedding anniversary. I am in rare company.
For those curios about the line "I'm like Vaughn Bodē I'm a Cheech Wizard" line it refers to the cartoonist Vaughn Bodē. He was an American underground cartoonist and illustrator known for his character Cheech Wizard and his artwork depicting voluptuous women. A contemporary of Ralph Bakshi, Bodē has been credited as an influence on Bakshi's animated films Wizards and The Lord of the Rings. Bodē has a huge following among graffiti artists, with his characters remaining a popular subject. Sadly he died in 1975, I won't post why here, you can look it up on Wiki but he had a son who was also talented and apparently his last words to him were "Mark, I've seen God four times, and I'm going to see him again soon. That's No. 1 to me, and you're No. 2." That is what I always loved about Beastie Boys when I was a kid, the referenced so much stuff it was impossible to keep up.
Your review of So Whatcha Want popped into my feed and I had to watch. That led me here. Lovin’ how you’re blown away by the Beasties. Positive stuff, man. I’m 52 and listened to Licensed To Ill on cassette with my bro in the 80s and kept going from there. So much music in their catalog. Excited you get to experience it for the first time. They’re brilliant and cross genres. You just got a new sub. Peace ✌🏼
okay lets go.... i wanna see you loose your mind to "INTERGALACTIC" by beastie boys. MAKE IT HAPPEN VOTE THIS ONE UP. we all wanna see you react to this
Dude, your face and head nod to the first few seconds were *exactly* the same I remember having when I first heard this back in 96. Some stank on that groove
Thank you for having such respect for people, to the point that you make a conscious effort to not swear. I was told years ago, that people who swear in general conversations, are not book smart people, but very intelligent. They lack the proper words to describe what they are saying. Making a conscious effort to not swear shows a higher level of respect and intelligence.
I agree.....I know so many people that drop F bombs in front of their kids etc.....im not down.....I never cursed in front of my mother and too many people do
The more you cuss, the higher your honesty level. People with high IQ's are also known to cuss more often. Science has studied these phenomenon. I've cussed out my toxic, narcissist of a mother while she sat there primly counting her "nice" words. Don't try to apply your opinion to other peoples' lives as though it's factual.
So glad that you are enjoying the Beastie Boys, I’m almost 50 and have been listening to them since the beginning, I use to fall asleep listening to License to Ill on cassette tape!

Boogie!! Love the Channel and your newfound love of the Beasties. 2 quick things. You mentioned how whoever directed their videos should have won awards. Look up Spike Jonze and see that he's an award winning movie director. I believe he directed Sure Shot. He definitely directed their 'Sabotage' video. And the quote about "disrespect to woman has got to be through" is their own admission that their early songs were misogynistic towards women and that they've now 'grown up' and out of that phase.
Just subscribed. I love how beastie boys are effecting you in every way! Hiphop was created to be a positive intelligent movement. Reactions to early tribe called quest, jungle brothers, delasoul and leaders of the new school would be Dope!!
We appreciate that you take your time to check on the classics. What this generation lacks is at least as I see it to have fun since most are in this only for the money. So again thanks for the appreciation of the classics
I want to add to my old comment. I was in 7th grade just starting jr high when I picked up their first rap album/cassette. As a freshman I didn’t realize that I would be purchasing their best album (Paul’s boutique) in my eyes all the way back then. They’ve always had their own category and they never strayed from being different and that makes them relevant in a genre that has evolved and they always got props staying close to who they are. Back to Paul’s boutique as my fav, it took a month to make it stick but it became obvious one day when all I craved was that album. Maybe it was my age but Eggman, high plains drifter, the sounds of science, looking down the barrel to name a few and I didn’t even mention their cornerstone hits Hey Ladies & Shake your Rump. If neither of those two don’t move you, well then you’re dead. I’m stoked now because my crazy thoughts back then are getting recognized and the Beasties look like genius’s. I took some time away from rap and hip hop after 1991, but I feel that the hip hop back then will always rank first. I’m happy to see the new gens appreciating them as well. The hip hop bands I always rocked were the BB’s of course, run-doc, NWA, Ice-T before selling his soul to Hollywood/ Law & Order 🙄, some LL Cool J….again hollyweird, bodycount (Ice T), big daddy Kane, and I was big follower of Kris/KRS-one with Boogie down productions or BDP. Kris slung information education before there was internet, and he was spot on teaching that knowledge reigns supreme over everyone. Early 1990s was a vibe and in my heart I feel that later in the 90’s racial lash out worked in everyone’s favor and a lot of us had new common ground and respect for each other. Don’t mistake 2008 and anything the MSM spewing out is trying to divide what we had built not that long ago. The new generations didn’t stand a chance with all of the indoctrination tactics these schools have been skull fucking them into believing nothing but lies. They did it all for the $$$$ and they should all be held accountable….both sides!! Oh BTW the WEF just posted on their website that the Rona virus was nothing but a big huge test to see how humans would line up when’s demands were made. Day one when they were already airing advertisements with hollyweird actors I knew that it was all BS and I’ve been saying it since. Do your own research and never let anyone decide for you what you think is right or wrong. Love ya all! ☮️
Love your videos, keep it up and you’re going to be big. You’ve tapped into the Gen X old guy demographic, and we have money to spend on things that remind us of when we were your age.
Love this, and so nice to see a young man react positively to the line about disrespecting women -- thank you! :) Check out Sabotage and Root Down next!!
Man, London Ontario Canada here!! You are SLAYING on these reactions!! Much appreciation and respect! Looking forward to Sabotage, Root Down, Shake Your Rump or Body Movin'. Keep up the great videos Sir!!
They shot almost all their videos themselves. MCA had an alter ego named Nathaniel Hornblour (misspelled) and he filmed their own videos. Then they would collaborate with Spike Jonz on some other videos.
The dude at the end hanging on the camera lika a basket hoop is DJ Hurricane (ssen in their other videos too) , check out his old group The Afros - Feel it, from 1990, its a banger !!!!
An absolute summer banger that holds up today! You might as well check out "Root Down" the other single/video from their 1994 album. A banger about their NYC roots.
GENX Here - Before they dropped their rap hits they were a thrash-metal band and played real fast - lots of screaming. Then they switched gears and boom - hit after hit. Their MTV video for Fight For Your Right, killed it. It empowered an entire generation to fight against our boomer parents and have fun.
@@ottopereda8915 Before Beastie Boys became the influential hip-hop group known and loved by many, they were a hardcore punk group. Influenced by his love of 70s English punk rock band “The Clash”, Adam Yauch also known as MCA, is the one who created the band.

That line was a sea change in hip hop. Everyone remembers it. God bless MCA.
Yeah, they said some stuff first album they regretted. But who among us understood women in high school?
They had it right the first time
This is the Beastie Boys as adults not just wild kids.
The Beastie Boys book is a must read (or listen) for any music fan. The Beasties really grew throughout their careers and lives.

Girls, to do the dishes

Interesting fact - Adam Yauch (MCA) shot and produced many of their videos. The man was a genius. True story...
