I really like how Winebrenner started with rejecting denominations and professions of belief, then proceeds to to make a denomination with a profession of faith.

The fact their statement of belief is called "we believe" which also happens to be the first words of the Nicene Creed
They claim to have no creed but the Bible, but then have a publication which in Latin would be called "Creedo"

    • @davidwilliams9371

We still take a stand against creeds meaning we do not hold them equal to scripture. It is a bit of an irony that we call our doctrinal statement “We Believe” which means creed. Even so we do not hold these written statements by Winebrenner or others more recently as authority or infallible, they simply help us summarize and systematize what we hold as important.

Thanks for a very fair and substantive introduction to the denomination I serve. You covered our founding briefly but well. Winebrenner did not want to leave the German Reformed denomination. He sought to bring reform and sought reconciliation and restoration. He was opposed to schisms, but as evident he did form another denomination only after a separation of several years and other like minded pastors wanted to form together so they could accomplish together what they could not do individually. We do ordain women as ministers and have done so since 1858. Our views on speaking in tongues has softened slightly since 1975, no formal writing has been done on the topic since then.
If you follow Route 30 from Lancaster PA to Iowa you will travel within a 100 miles of most of our congregations in America. In the past 20 years we have started many mission works in other areas than you listed.
Again thanks for a well done introduction to the Churches of God General Conference (CGGC) Dave Williams Interim Executive Director of the Eastern Region of the CGGC

This breaks my heart. My father grew up in Harrisburg. He died an atheist and I'm crushed by that fact. He was an altar boy in the Catholic church. I wonder if he had attended this church instead, might he have remained a believer all his life.

    • @joshuakarr-BibleMan

I was also an altar boy in a Catholic church when I was a boy, but no longer attend with the Catholics.
I couldn't imagine rejecting God though.
I can't even imagine anybody suggesting a contrary doctrine that explained the origin of the universe, the balance and magnitude of the cosmos and balance of quanta, and explained things like how every culture seems to have spiritual beliefs, every man has faith in _something,_ and events inexplicable through materially consistent terms tend to occur from time to time.
Having another denomination nearby may have helped your father, or not, but I will never understand the spiritual apathy or else misotheism it would require to espouse atheism.

You seem to just be spouting random verses and thinking someone will believe you. In becoming Orthodox, I now have a better understanding of the Trinity. I work to give up my pride in thinking that my interpretation of the Bible is correct. I know that God has not left the Original Church and caused them to fall into error. And I continue to work on living out Matthew 25 more than I ever did as a Protestant. May the Holy Spirit guide you towards the Truth. Also I have added all the Bible verses so anyone can easily read them.
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord is our God, the Lord alone. You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. Keep these words that I am commanding you today in your heart.
      (‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭6‬:‭4‬-‭6‬ ‭NRSVUE‬‬)
One of the scribes came and heard them debating. Knowing that Jesus had answered them well, he asked him, “Which commandment is the greatest of all?” Jesus answered him, “The greatest is, ‘Hear, Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one: you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.’ This is the first commandment. And the second is likewise, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ There is no other commandment greater than these.” The scribe said to him, “It is well, teacher, that you have said truly that he is one, and there is none other but he, (Mark 12:28-32, EOB)
This is eternal life: that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you have sent, Jesus Christ. (John 17:3, EOB)
Jesus said to her, “Do not hold me, for I have not yet ascended to my Father. But go to my brethren and tell them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’” (John 20:17, EOB)
so that with one accord, you may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. (Romans 15:6, EOB)
to the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever! Amen. (‭‭Romans‬ ‭16‬:‭27‬ ‭NRSVUE‬‬)
yet, to us, there is one God the Father, from whom are all things; and we [are] for him; and one Lord Jesus Christ through whom are all things, and we live through him. (1 Corinthians 8:6, EOB)
The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, he who is blessed unto the ages, knows that I do not lie. (2 Corinthians 11:31, EOB)
There is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, (1 Timothy 2:5, EOB)
Wake up and strengthen the things which remain, which were about to die, for I have not found any of your works perfected before my God. (Revelation 3:2, EOB)
The one who overcomes, I will make a pillar in the sanctuary of my God, from which he shall never be removed. On such a person I will write the Name of my God, the name of the city of my God which is the new Jerusalem coming down out of heaven from my God, and [I will write] my own new Name. Hates denominations - starts a denomination; hates creeds - writes a creed; holds the Bible as the only authority - recognises that limits have to be set on interpretation. As a Catholic, it's agony to watch the same mistakes made again and again, motivated by faith and devout hope, but only ever causing the further splintering of the Church. Erasmus wrote to Martin Luther on many occasions telling him that he should never give up on resolving his issues within the Church; most were dealt with as soon as Trent, but the damage was done, and Our Lord still bleeds.

The host is thoughtful and charitable, but this is a protestant channel, so you might not find much sympathy for that sentiment here. 🙂
I am not religious, but I have read a fair number of the early Christians and I have a growing interesting in Catholicism. The only problem is that my local Catholic church is not very liturgically strict and is very liberal with respect to the church's teachings. I don't know if I can take the church seriously if the Catholic parishioners don't.
One day I may join you in your conviction, but not today.

Luther was more than just excommunicated. The papacy put a death penalty on his head.
That was historically the normal catholic way of dealing with any opposition.
My question to all catholics is simply, when did Jesus or any apostle give the authority to anyone, to torture and murder people', especially Christians??

The NT has the truth which is not so-called Christianity, as Romans 10:9 is only half the truth, and Romans 10:10 completes the truth.
I have a Ytube video series called 'Myths in so-called Christianity', which exposes Myths in a religious set of cults that are not part of the church of God inherited by Jesus.
