I'm SDA but back in my undergrad (attended a multi-denominational school) was the first time I met someone who was COG7. Mutual friends and classmates introduced us to each other because to their evangelical eyes, we were both Seventh-day Adventist. Then we met and kind of laughed at it because, well ... not exactly haha. We played on a worship team together at the school though. He was a dope drummer.

I have utilized these videos to make a growing list of the ways Christianity finds diversity in its beliefs and practices. As others have brought up, it would be of interest to have a questionnaire database to find out what denomination people actually align with most. So far I’m at 120, but of course there are many caveats: particularly on the subject of where rejection of one belief confers acceptance the opposite.
For instance in this video, This-We-Believe states baptism doesn’t wash away sins nor is it through human ritualism that people are saved. Yet those baptized by pouring and sprinkling must be rebaptized by immersion. Leaving my understanding of how to qualify a yes/no response to the essentialness of baptism for this denomination muddled.

Until 1958, I was satisfied to learn what our parents conveyed to my siblings and me about the history of the church and I was satisfied to read the literature they read. From 1958 to the present, I have examined the history of the church on my own and, because I consider a person to be truly Chrisian who is learning to trust the Lord, I hesitate to refer to any denomination as “the church”. I even prefer to avoid using the full name of those organizations that include the word “Church” in their formal name.
The flip side of my personal preference is that I consider the split between eastern and western branches of the church (1054) to be just that, i.e. that neither branch IS the church. Likewise, that the distinction between Christians and non-Christians is not strictly along the line between protestants and non-protestants. I believe there are true Christians in most of the several protestant denominations, although I have yet to find any denomination the creed of which explains all Bible doctrines in precisely the ways I do.
Someone suggested that, because my understanding of the Bible is uniquely my own, maybe I “should start my own church.”
Well, no. I’m as sure as I can be that isn’t what the Lord wants me to do. At the same time, I think many people would benefit from the creation of a LAY evangelistic organization that is different from any of which I am aware.
    Different?
Most evangelistic associations measure success in terms of numbers of people who make a profession of faith in Jesus. Not that there is anything wrong with encouraging people to make a profession of faith in Jesus but remember what James said about devils who believe (James 2:19).
Some denominations proselytize and call that “evangelism”.
Instead of requiring laity who are provided with expense accounts (or/and salaries) to do evangelistic work to affirm a list of doctrines, my idea is to require them, while they are receiving financial support from the lay evangelistic association I envision, to agree to NOT teach certain doctrines.
I consider the God of the Bible to be triune. (More about which if anyone is interested.) So I’d prefer to provide moral support for evangelists who avoid using the word “Trinity” because that word emphasises the threeness of God without a corresponding emphasis on his oneness. At the same time, I’d prefer to provide moral support for evangelists who avoid teaching that someone is less than Christian who denies that the life of Jesus is original, unborrowed, underived. (Were there too many negatives in that sentence?) I’m 77 and my Social Security checks are a little over $600 so I won’t be providing financial support for any evangelistic association until or unless there is a significant change in my own situation.
Evangelists supported by the evangelistic assoication I envision would agree to not teach that there is any sense in which we can earn or deserve any aspect of salvation - justification, sanctification or glorification.
Evangelists supported by the evangelistic association I envision would agree to not teach that the Bible should be interpreted by modern revelation - not even that the Hebrew Bible should be interpreted by the Gospels or/and the Epistles.
Evangelists supported by the evangelistic association I envision would agree to not teach that clergy have any more spiritual authority than the laity do or that spiritual authority is received from or through the hierarchy of a religious organization.
Evangelists supported by the evangelistic association I envision would agree to not teach that Sunday, Christmas or Easter are holy days.
Evangelists supported by the evangelistic assoication I envision would agree to not teach that humans are immortal or have an immortal soul.
What do you think? Are there other doctrines that, even if you believe them, are not essential to the proclamation of the gospel as you understand it?
P.S. to anyone who conveys information about people who are “adventists” in the lowercase sense of that word. The present-day advent movement is about the second advent of Jesus. I’ve never heard anyone emphasize the second syllable of the word “advent” whether speaking about the first advent of Jesus or his second advent. An emphasis on the second syllable of the word “adventist” gives the impression that a person doesn’t understand the origin and meaning of the term “adventist” - in much the way that emphasizing the second syllable of the word “methodist” would give the impression that someone doesn’t understand the origin and meaning of the term “methodist”.

I’m a member of the General Conference of the Church of God (Seventh Day) and serve in this ministry as a pastor.
I do not believe this specific denomination to be “the Church” but only one branch of the vine. I believe and agree with your comments about sincere believers being in every denominational and nondenominational, eastern or western churches.
I have chosen to join the CoG7 (what we call our denomination) because as I read the scriptures, when I was a child and teenager, it is the denomination that I found to be most in line with what I found the scriptures to teach. I visited and talked with pastors of other churches, denominational and nondenominational. Unfortunately, I was most often pointed to anything but scripture; I was pointed to other books. I had pastors tell me they weren’t willing to address certain doctrines because they weren’t interested in splitting the church, even after they said to me that they agreed with my understanding.

@@triplea6174 Studying the different denominations/branches of Christianity can be helpful. I’ve done that quite a bit myself and I find Ready to Harvest videos both useful and among the most accurate / unbiased sources of which I am aware.
Please consider, however, focusing your study on the history of the church. I think of the church as having existed ever since the proclamation of the protoevangelium (Genesis 3:15). In my view, the Christian faith includes people who were learning to trust the Lord long before Jesus was born. The word, “Christ”, is derived from the Greek word “Christos” which is the equivalent to the Hebrew word, “Messiah”. When this is taken into consideration, the Hebrews (and some others) who anticipated the first advent of the Messiah were as surely “Christians”, even if they didn’t know a word of Greek.
I’m sure I’m not the only person who tends to “put myself into the story” when I read about Abraham, Joseph, Moses, Daniel and his friends as well as when I read about Jesus and his apostles. On the other hand, some people seem to have never tried to understand how various people in history were motivated to make the choices they did. Maybe that’s why some people don’t find the history of the protestant reformation as interesting as I do.
There are some denominations in the United States that exist because people who came here from Europe preferred to maintain the traditions that had been developed in the countries where they previously lived. Some even - for a while after coming to North America - continued to hold services in the languages of the countries of their birth (Dutch Reformed, for example).
Other denominations, however, exist because the Lord called individuals or groups of people to emphasize specific aspects of the many truths about himself and how he relates to his human children.
I have found it helpful to try to understand the circumstances that led to the reforms proposed by John Wycliffe (1328-1384, Jon Hus (1369-1415), Martin Luther (1483-1546), the English puritans of the sixteenth century, especially the Mayflower Pilgrims of the early seventeenth century, John Wesly and others.
I don’t agree with all of the doctrines and practices of those various reformers but, if you can “put yourself into their shoes”, I think you will find their history to be both informative and inspiring. I don’t entirely agree with the doctrines of John Calvin (1509-1564) but he lived at a time when most people in western Europe thought their salvation depended on the decisions of the priests. Try to imagine the relief of the people who heard Calvin teach that such decisions had been made by God before they were born.

My dad was a pastor in this church around 1957. I was baptized at Springvale Academy in Owosso, Michigan in 1973. Calvin Burrell was one of my teachers there and was also the director of the school. I recall that he had gone on to become conference president for about 10 years. Concerning the deity of Yeshua the Messiah, he and the Father are one, or echad in Hebrew which means plural oneness. God in Hebrew is Elohim. It is a title given to the father and son collectively. The father alone is El. They are of the same spirit. Faith alone will not save us, even the demons believe and trouble. Faith without works is dead. I have also discovered that the Moedim, which is Hebrew for appointed times, often referred to as holy days were not abolished. In the book of Matthew Messiah told us not to think that he has come to destroy the Torah or the prophets, he has not come to destroy but to complete. The stance of the Cog7 concerning the Holy days is that it has to be kept in Jerusalem where Elohim puts his name. However scripture reveals that if we can't go there to keep it where we are. Shalom.

      Matthew 12:8
For the mind that is set on the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to God’s law; indeed, it cannot.
      Romans 8:7
Do we then overthrow the law by this faith? By no means! On the contrary, we uphold the law.
      Romans 3:31
If you're implying that Yeshua fulfilled the law so we don't have to remember the Sabbath, let me ask you this:
He also fulfilled being born of a virgin. Do you take the time to celebrate that?
He fulfilled being our Passover Lamb, 1st Corinthians 5:7-8, do you celebrate that?
He also fulfilled the festival of First Fruits at his resurrection during the week of Unleavened Bread. Do you celebrate his resurrection?
If he fulfilled those things so you don't have to do them, then please apply the same standard to yourself as you are to me.
Jesus never committed theft, but I bet you still keep that. Jesus rose from the dead, and I bet you still celebrate that.
If you're accusing me of being under the law for observing Sabbath, then I would be right in accusing you of the same for observing the command to respect your parents.
If I'm trying to justify myself by observing Sabbath, which I'm not, then aren't you trying to justify yourself by keeping the other nine out of ten?
God said to remember the Sabbath just like Yeshua said to keep Passover in remembrance of him. And Christ is still the Lord of the Sabbath, which has future implications for God's creation. In fact, in Exodus 31, do you know what the sign is that God created the heavens and earth in six days? Not a theory of creationism. God Himself said the sign of a six day creation is the seventh day Sabbath 🙌🏾
Do you think my Father is lying?
Meanwhile, to accuse me of trying to work for my salvation by observing Sabbath doesn't make sense because work is not allowed on Sabbath😉.

There is so much misinterpretation and in some instances dishonesty in respect of the statements of doctrine, there are something in scripture which are plain. It is either that some disregard altogether or have never read them. For instance there is example of the Saints meeting on the Lord
s Day (First Day of the Week) for Breaking of Bread and worship, Acts 20:7.

not so; although this is the common usage in the US, worldwide the pronunciation is much more varied. The largest SDA channel I am aware of (Bible Flock Box) pronpunces it as I do here, and many official videos of the SDA church do as well.

very informative, thank you; Problem is that most people do not TEST author to author in the Bible, Paul is a false prophet and James, John and Jude all warn of this. Rev 2:2 is clear and Luke records this in his letter to the pagan judge. Acts was never intended for Christians to read. Jesus warned us in Matt 24:24 not to believe any light in the wilderness, Paul never heard this warning and got his power from a false Christ.
Jesus makes it clear in John 17:3 that there is only one God and His spirit came to the only begotten Son on his baptism.

Why there are innumerable number of churches? Ordinary Christians consider Jesus as God and want to follow his teachings because his is the best teachings.we don’t want to debate about the various theories, rituals, dogmas and heresies. Because of these there are unnecessary fights between various churches.for us Christians and no Christian’s are our brothers and sisters. We want to show and spread Christ‘S teachings through our dealings and behaviour.

I'm a Biblical Unitarian, but I'm not a member of either Church of God denominations. I grew up SDA, but they have a number of false beliefs, including the Trinity and a close of probation, neither of which are supported by Scripture, along with a false prophetess, so I gave up the false doctrines and I'm no longer denominational. SDA is mostly accurate about the Sabbath and the state of the dead, but wrong about the 2nd Coming and the post-Advent. Yeshua ("Jesus" is pagan, meaning man-horse), the fully-human son of God who lived a sinless life and won salvation through death for mankind's sins, will return to earth and set up his kingdom and rule for a millennium.

Is the Holy Spirit a distinct person within the one true God? The answer is yes if Scripture is our guide. The Holy Spirit is not just an afflatus. This is why we read in Scripture that like Jesus, who was sent into the world, Gal. 4:4, the Spirit was also sent into the world, John 16:7. Being sent indicates personality. The Spirit in Scripture is a person and as such “speaks”, 1 Tim. 4:1. The Spirit as a person is referred to with pronouns, John 16:13. The Spirit as a person can also be “grieved”, Ephesians 4:30. The Spirit as a person also strives, Galatians 5:17.
In addition, the Spirit has in Scripture along with personality, all the attributes of God, omniscience [Psalm 139:4] omnipotence, [Romans 15:19] omnipresence, [Psalm 139:7-10]; and of course, the Holy Spirit is eternal, [Hebrews 9:14]. The natural or plain meaning of Scripture leads one to conclude that God is three persons in the One Being, Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. There is no other God. And so, we read the parting words of our Lord and Savior, ‘’Go ye therefore and teach all nations baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost. [Matthew 28:19]

Yeshua (Jesus) did not believe the Holy Spirit was a distinct person. In John 10:30 he stated, "I and My Father are one." He never once said that I and my Father, and the Holy Spirit are one.

@@steveabraham8847 You need to do some research. Maybe you need to humble yourself as well. Do you really think that the primitive Church needs your instruction? It preached the Holy Trinity from the very beginning. It labored to show that the Holy Spirit was a distinct person, and it proved as much. People like you CHERRY PICK Bible verses that fit your scheme, but you somehow pass over what flatly contradicts that scheme.
You must have a redacted Bible.

    R ONE TRUE RELIGION
It is only logical that there would be one true religion. This is in harmony with the fact that the true God is a God, "not of disorder, but of peace." (1 Corinthians 14:33) The Bible says that actually there is only "one faith." (Ephesians 4:5) Who, then, are the ones who form the body of true worshippers today?
We do not hesitate to say that they are Jehovah's Witnesses.
