Hollow Knight How- to Find the Desolate Dive Spell and Nail Upgrade- Step by Step Guide

- This video is a step by step guide on how to find the Desolate Dive spell as well as the nailsmith to upgrade your weapon. Throughout the video I stop to show you where you need to go on the map.
This is a spell and not an ability because it costs soul or power to be able to use this spell. All of the abilities like Mantis claw and Dash do not require soul. We are getting the desolate dive in order to get the crystal heart without the lantern which costs 1,800 geo.
Note that in order to get this upgrade you will need a few things:
1. Defeat the False Knight
2. Have the Dash ability: • Hollow Knight- How to ...
3. Have the Mantis Claw ability: • Hollow Knight- How to ...
We will start from Dirtmouth to make things easy. If you watched the Mantis Claw video the beginning of this video will be very similar.
At the end of this video you will need to beat the Soul Master in the City of Tears in order to received the Desolate Dive Spell.

I thought quick slash was in kingdoms edge and you needed desolate dive to get through a breakable wall near the nail master

I came across those small spiky creatures that expand and float in the air.
I explained to my boyfriend hope to avoid them: They bounce towards you, you just need to hit them from a distance.

honestly this whole freaking area was brutally tough for me. I think the reason it was so rough is with all the regular enemies that spawn I would enter into the boss fights with only half health like every time
But there are lots of sources of soul as well...those little ghost looking things are easy to kill, the glowing orbs can be broken to get soul

Sorry that this one is a bit longer. I wanted to make it super clear as to how to get into the City of Tears and how to beat the boss fight at the end. In the dash ability video I cut the boss and made it separate video. Either way I hope that this stop by step guide helped you!

I like to leave the moss fights up the the players. I feel like that is where a lot of the fun is. Getting stuck and lost is just frustrating to me. That’s is why I make these specific videos

This comment might be late, but for anyone struggling to kill the soul master I recommend: longnail, thorns of agony, and at least tier 2 grimmchild

tip: vegenful spirit with shaman stone(charm sold by salubra) is good for soul master (and every other boss)
two good times to heal are the 4 magic spells leaving the screen 13:54 as example and when soul master is deflated 13:24
the final stage only requirs 13 hits to finish soul master

My parents say that TH-cam won’t make you money as an adult and adults don’t have time for games. You prove them wrong. I love how your content is helpful and you say whatever else you need before you get the thing
Quick tip: get the Vengeful spirit upgrade because it is helpful and to get another charm just above the entrance to the fight there to reduce soul usage, it is also good to use lb heart/jonis (if you are confident in not needing to heal) and shaman stone is really good with it because you don’t need to only use the nail to fight. First phase hug the entrance and wall to get easy hits second phase just don’t get greedy with hits

This is getting too frustrating! The boss that grants the Desolate Drive has defeated me over 50 times. While I’m slowly getting better, I haven’t made it to the part where he dives to the floor beneath. This wouldn’t be so annoying if i had a bench closer to him. Tired of treading the same path from Conifers desk. I have my nail upgrade; along with a 3 charms - the soul catcher, the long nail, and steady (because I ran out of notches). The technique I use is to try and get as many hits in as possible without being hit myself (obviously)...then heal when I can. After the third time he recovers, it seems almost impossible to reach him because he keeps teleporting. Am I suppose to hit this guy while he’s taking a breather or what?
I know it's been 2 years, but yeah. You are supposed to hit him when he takes a breather.

For me, SM wasn’t a problem. The only time I died was when I was exploring and had stumbled in on 2 masks. When I actually fought him, I found him to be one of the easiest bosses. I killed him in one try and I’m pretty confident for ST because of how ell I did on the master.

The wall jump is a pretty hard to master I just got it and I am in PC.
The controls can take a bit to get use to because there is so much freedom in the platforming. It is super easy to hit spikes or other obstacles
Yeah, this walkthrough doesn't work. I need the dash ability to cross over into th fungal wastes, but when I went to his guide on how to get it he claims I need this ability first.
The dash ability is called the moth wing cloak. You find it in green path for defeating hornet.
In retrospect, I had no idea what I was talking about. My bad. Thanks for clarifying.

Man, the soul sanctum is such a well constructed place with very fair enemies & has a good amount of save points, it’s not the most difficult roguelike I’ve ever played.

Once you get to a later part in the game you will get a thing called a dream nail. You will need to find dream essence to awaken the dream nail to its final state. The way you gather this dream essence is from these weird looking trees and fighting a harder spirit form of bosses that you already beat. The dung defender, broken vessel, nosk (I think) and a couple others have a spirit form. Ohh and you can also fight a couple of ghosts as well

I guess just as well order does not really matter in this game. What am finding interesting is the things people are saying are hard for them I am finding easyish the things people are saying was easy for them.... yeah sure... certainly not for me lol

Ohh no! That platforming spot is one of the first difficult ones you come across. Just wait until the path of pain...

If shade is in a horrible spot and yes has been for me too thankfully not always but sometimes if you have Rancid Egg then you can go to Jiji and she if you give her a rancid egg she can call your shade to her location and you get it from there. Only trouble is you have to go all the way back to Dirtmouth. But if have a lot of Geo your going to loose and especially if in early game can be worth it.
Me: beats the Soul Master in the first phase, starts screaming and crying tears of joy
Soul Master: you thought, starts attacking me again
Me: rage quits

The boss guarding the door to the actual boss was literally 10x harder than the soul master. Took me an hour to defeat his sorry ass and the soul master only took me 15 minutes, (minus the dream realm which I’m currently stuck at)

I recommend you get your sixth mask before going to city of tears. You can get these mask shards by sometimes beating bosses and saving caterpie or, finding them in the wild.
You can hit those white jars to get the white liquid ball on the top left corner to fill up to use spells or heal they look like background but they are useful.

Yeah, it’s not easy the first time though but if you play HK long enough you will feel how slow it is in comparison to some of the tougher bosses

For those who have problem with beating the boss i would recommend u to get shadow dash because whenever you shadow dash into his projectiles you dont take damage and destroy them i beat him first try by that which is kinda funny cuz i was avoiding him the most because felt like i am gonna die to him a lot.

If you to the top of green path you will find a forgotten crossroad looking spot. Find a chest and jump in it. Take out the elder baldar to get a new charm.

Yeah they are annoying because the more damage you do they more they teleport. If you try to skip them the soul worriers will just follow you and then you have to deal with 3+ of them.
