If you told me I'd be performing this with Robert , 50 years after hearing this as a little kid, I would not have believed it. Thanks Daryl, Robert and the great band.
Cool. Congratulations!
You looked like you were having fun. I can't imagine the power in that room.
Just another day at Daryl's house eh Eliot? What a great gig. Take a bow... you guys nailed it
You didn't just perform it with him. You knocked it out of the park. This is a Red for the history books.
Hi Eliot😁, I can remember my wife and I rushing out to buy the “Red” album. What a memorable time in my life. Seeing you playing with Fripp young man makes me appreciate the whole experience even more. It hasn’t died.
Daryl Hall and a mohawked Robert Fripp playing Red on my computer. What a fucking world.
😂❤yeah!
My 16-year-old self could have never imagined 😊
@@James-pl4buI'm a 25 y.o who discovered KC because my father is a prog fan from the late 70s (not from JoJo), years ago (2010s) I never Imagined this too, plus... His TH-cam stuff recently that all started when he dance with his wife in tutu!
right?
For those who are surprised by this pairing, Robert Fripp and Daryl Hall go back a LONG way. Fripp produced Daryl Hall’s first solo album, and Daryl Hall sang on Fripp’s “Exposure” solo album. I’m really happy to see these old friends rejoined like this!
And then they didn’t work together again for 44 years!
Exposure ❤❤❤❤
Got to hand it to Daryl for having such an eclectic taste in music outside of the genre that made him famous. So cool to see this!
@davestagner I'm not surprised by this pairing ....but I sure was when I had first learned of it.
Daryl and Robert make a helluva combo
Fripp finally allowing himself a smile!
Whatever Toyah is doing with Robert these days is working. I never thought I'd ever see him smile while playing "Red".
Every man should have a woman like Toyah, we'd all be smiling 😉
Daryl Hall playing King Crimson's "Red" with Robert Fripp. That's certainly on the list of things I never thought I would see. Wow!
Fripp has looked like a middle aged teacher all his life. Savage guitarist.
100% ..he was giving his best school master look during that rendition of red.
The man does not age mentally or physically. Deal with the devil?
That you're pegging him as "middle aged" when he's pushing eighty only proves that music (if done right) keeps you young for a very long time...
Absolutely savage gentleman
@@albinrose3692(and a very hot wife!😉)
Uncle Frippy seems to be loosening up a whole lot in his old age . Smiling & everything . Let it all hang out Robert !
I never thought I'd see Robert Fripp in Daryl's house. It was wonderful!!
I want to be at that Ramones show they went to together.
Is very hard to imagine Robert Fripp in that audience.
They did an album together in the old days
@@HollowGolem watch his Sunday with toyah shows. He does nothing but classic rock in those.
@@LucasVigorseems like yesterday I was grooving to Sacred Songs in 1980
@@jimmoore8951 it’s a great album. It’s amazing that they were almost in king crimson together.
One seldom sees Robert smile, let alone laugh…. Daryl’s boogie Woogie, honky-tonkesque piano playing on Red, did what most fail to do. Fantastic stuff!
Well, he is smiling
Agreed..on both counts.
it's sad
Not only is he smiling and even laughing, but, my god, he's actually having a great time. So much fun. And a first take? A day in the life.
Since he has been co-hosting his youtube channel with his wife Toya Wilcox, he laughs jokes, plays and might even put on a tutu and dance some swan lake! I've briefly met him in the 80s and he was quite charming and nice. Seen many of his performances and have yet to be disappointed. Always had the dream he would play on one of my out there country songs.
Holy friggin hell!!!! WHAT?!!!!! They BEASTED!!!!! Well done is an understatement!
You know serious shit is about to go down if Daryl is sitting at the piano with sheet music in front of him 😂
and still messes up about 50 percent of his part...
*or at least a chord chart 😊
@@GuiitarBilly that he can't read apparently. in the very beautiful Emaj7 part someone (eg he) keeps playing a minor chord.
@@stefanstrittmatter6459 Let alone he seems unable to play in time... -_-
@@evanjazzista He simply doenst know the song, yes.
Robert Fripp is just about the last person I would expect to see at Daryl’s house. And he looks like he is having a blast.
What a versatile band!
Well it makes sense as Fripp produced Hall's first solo album Sacred Songs and Hall shows up on Fripp's album Exposure
Now I know why I listened to both hall and oats aAND king Crimson, what a showdown at Daryl’s roadhouse.!!! Thank you so much,
Except for the entry at 5:23
Pretty cool, eh?@@YoItsEvanAdams
It is good to see Robert Fripp enjoying himself playing his incredible music and after all these years allowing himself publicly to be funny and relaxed, and to appreciate the genuine admiration we have for him as an artist. Mr. Fripp you deserve it.
He’s definitely a lot happier without the onus of performing with KC anymore, and now simply frolicking with his wife Toyah.
Dippity-Dip...thanks for Robert Fripp..... yay God!
I love the little smirk Robert gave while the band was playing. The Fripp approves.
Exactly! Fripp smiling? What?
So many feelings in his sideways look. Smiling. Approving. Enjoying!
You are so right he is not very vocal, but the look says it all
@3:13 Robert Fripp shows how he really feels
oh hell ya
I don’t mean this as a knock on other episodes or Daryl in particular, but when an extremely talented peer of Daryl’s is there, he elevates both his energy and talent above the norm. That’s a very fun way to watch him. Great episode with the genius that Fripp is and always has been.
Well, you're not wrong. I'm just mentally comparing this to the Tilbrook episode...Daryl seems WAY more into this and more prepared.
@@directassault1662 Yep, I agree. Thought the same thing in that episode too. There’s no going through the motions in either of those episodes.
Spot on, noticed with Todd Rundgren and Butch Walker
It tells you all you need to know about the RR HoF is that Robert Fripp is not in it!
Love your observations my friend!🤙♥️🤘😎
HOLY SHEISSE!!!!! Ok : I already liked Daryl’s House… It definitely rocks & rolls but FRIGGIN ROBERT FRIPP?!?!? Are you kidding me? Now you done it man : I love you forever! ❤
No way in this universe did I ever think I'd see Daryl Hall playing any Robert Fripp song, let alone this one. My respect for Daryl just taken to another level.
Well Hall was on fripp's first solo album
Listen to "North Star" by Daryl Hall, it is a prototype for "Mate Kudasai".
Now I’ve seen everything. Shows one should never pigeonhole anyone.
Wow, what a story, Fripp and the Beatles. When one is young, time is dialated.
It's great to see Robert Fripp getting to be human. Life with Toyah is definitely good for his soul. I wouldn't be surprised to find out that the guitarist had learned Red back in his younger days. I think the most important nugget is the impact of that last piano chord in Day in the Life on our musical heritage... and that all the music is the same, just different instruments and players. This was a gift to all of us, Daryl!
I think Fripp has always been warm and funny. But he’s also shy and his music isn’t the Eagles, so he was a cottage industry despite stadium talent
Bartok, Stravinsky, Charlie Parker, Elvis and The Beatles. A man of impeccable taste.
Daryl & his band with Robert are on fire 🔥 🎸🎹
Ohhh ALWAYS🎸🎸🎸🎸
Thank you!
Bloody hell!!! RED? THEY PLAYED RED?!!! Can you imagine Starless with Daryl singing it?
I didn’t know drummer Brian Dunne is an absolute monster but I do now. Same for everyone. That was amazing.
He nailed it
@@kmichaelp4508 I'm sorry but we all know this song is too large for him.
Couldn't agree more! He was spot on!
He even has more drums than he usually did on the show. Must have needed them for a Prog song.
❤🙏❤️
Robert Fripp has always been and is rock royalty. He elevates an already talented band. Long live King Crimson.
A great arrangement of Red. Hall's piano adds a new wrinkle of jazziness.
Goodness. This really shows how cool Daryl is, how huge his musical world really is. I never ever ever thought that I'd see Daryl Hall play a prog masterpiece.
dude people don't really get the whole picture about Daryl Hall. Yeah he's in the syruppiest pop band ever with Hall and Oates, but in real life he's an orchestra-director-level musician and he's spent his life working his ass off to make other people sound good. You shd look into his producer credits. I despise pop music too but Hall has earned every penny and every ounce of respect he gets
Indeed. And I had no idea that Fripp produced his first solo album until a few days ago. It's a really ambitious and creative album too. A nice surprise.@@anthonycardott3541
@zachleary108 Fripp and Hall recorded an album together in the 70s, Sacred Songs. Not that surprising they did this - more like it was bound to happen, eventually.
Yeah, I said that above. I've been listenting to it lately.@@darwinsaye
Hall was the original vocalist on the "Exposure" album, but his record company wouldn't allow them to release it because it was "wrong" for his image. The vocals were then redone with Peter Gabriel.
The whole band really brought it but the drums totally slayed. Bruford had a very unique feel during this album and it's very hard to nail the power without going full metal. This drummer totally got it.
Agree, with exception....Red was a King Crimson 3 piece band; Bill Buford's drum part was (for me) the structure that wove in and out beautifully and tastefully. Classic Buford. I'm 70, a drummer, have seen him perform live...and you get the rest. His part could have been duplicated, yes, but without pratice...questionalble. Thanks.
Awesome! Again, I am in awe of Daryl‘s versatility!
Great tune. Fripp is one strange genius. Daryl hanging tough and extremely versatile.
Never in a million years would I have thought this would would happen! Awesome!
Agreed!
So talented. When was this I wonder?
Now Robert needs to patch things up with Adrian Belew.
@@danielosullivan3110 It says one day ago.
Ain't that the truth. If someone asked what's the most batshit crazy thing you could think of for Daryls House. Daryl & the band performing "Red" with Robert Fripp would've been a really good shout. I'm now waiting for John Oates to be performing "Death Disco" with Public Image Ltd. 😉
wow, Daryl (and gang) just entered another level of cool with this one
Robert becoming a master of guitar (rather than a real estate broker) is yet another reason we can all be grateful for The Beatles. And grateful for whoever it was who convinced the Beeb that playing "A Day In The Life" would not turn Britain's youth into a drug-frenzied mob when the song was played...
This is great, Fripp seems to be enjoying relaxing his discipline and letting things be a little less controlled.
If I had to go perform "Red", with no rehearsal, with Fripp there in the room staring a hole in me as he does, I think I would need therapy. Daryl and co. are absolute pros in every way to be able not only to pull it off but to sound awesome doing it.
GOOSEBUMPS!!!!! Ah Fripp you are The Master, we've so missed you!!! Daryl and band you are bloody amazing!!! WHAT FUN IT IS AT DARYL'S HOUSE!!!! 🥳🥳🥳
This is fantastic! So true to the spirit of the original, but with a jazzier feel. Terrific. I bet Bill Bruford would love this rendition too!
The fact that they had little time to rehearse this and it all turned out sounding this awesome shows what great talent all of these guys are.
Robert actually smiled. Great job guys.
What an absolute joy to have Fripp as the guest and to hear these songs performed! Endless thanks to all concerned.
"Red" is my favorite album of the Wetton/Bruford/Fripp/Cross era of King Crimson.
Cruising in my '77 red Cutlass with this album on cassette blasting, me and my friends started passing around a j and ahead in the road we see emergency vehicles in the middle of the road...there's a body laying on the road covered in a white sheet that was more Red than white. Just minutes before there had been a fatal accident and us stoned teens slowly drove by the body as One More Red Nightmare is playing. I will never forget the chills I got driving that night.
05:18 the look on Fripp's face when the band is late coming back in. Priceless.
I think that was a look of extra concentration to get himself back locked in with the band. Honestly, I loved that mistake: not only does it prove that this was a single take, but it actually sounded interesting
@@pamelamcanulty5236 Yeah, everybody recovered well there.
There was a bit of a double downbeat, and the lead guitarist looked over at Daryl like, I can’t believe we pulled *that* off.
Fripp’s face seems a bit of a stink-face to me, like “what did u just do there?” But they got right back on track.
Fripp was early, but the guitar player faked him out.
Daryl's piano is a lovely touch on this amazing song. "Red" is a song I never tire of and hearing each version of KC run through it is always great. This goes in that batch of top notch versions.
My mind is blown, OMG what an amazing first take. God, I wish this new generation would learn what true musicianship really looks and sounds like. Thank you Daryl for inviting us to your house.
Amazing music, Amazing stories!!! Thank you!!!!!
Daryl's band is genius with unmeasurable talent. They are the reason LFDH works so well. How they can adjust to all genres and sound so magnificent is beyond me. Bravo gentlemen!
This is gold! Never thought piano would have a place in Red, but Daryl absolutely killed it! Tritones FTW! 👏
Sacred songs Daryl’s album, Fripp produced and Exposure Fripps album with Daryl singing on are two masterpieces of what popular music could be.
Yes
Absolutely remarkable, sublime work 😘
Brings back memories of Robert, John and Bill from the 1970’s! Thank you Daryl & Robert!
Impressed with this collaboration & version of the very complicated RED...Daryl is now in the Crimson fraternity...
The Great Fripp!
What an amazing instrumental!!! Kudos to the drummer!!! He had to be on point on this song!!!
Guitars and drums absolutely on point! Robert smirking was gold.
I’ve been listening and studying King Crimson since I was 16 years old. I’m now 56. I just want to say, not only did you do this song justice, I think you guys actually improved on the original. And wasn’t that
always King Crimson’s _modus operandi_ , to continuously morph and improve? Nailed it. Beautifully played fellas.
I kept thinking that Daryl Hall was playing piano chords he had never played before.
Same !
improved on the original?!? lmfao
@@darkforest3333 ok, you’re laughing your ass off. Got it.
I’m always open to constructive dialogue, do you have anything to offer other than lmaso or……..
@@darkforest3333 didn’t think so.
Historic reunion! Daryl's SACRED SONGS is in my top 10...
I believe that soul mates really exist and certainly Robert Fripp is one of mines, the only difference is that I'm a nobody who never studied music as it should be.
Seeing Robert having fun these days! That’s just great.
Great interpretation of one of his greatest songs! Thank you so much!
🙏
The ability of these musicians just astounds me! Fripp is a genius and Daryl and his band just killed it!
Thank you!
Stellar. This shows the incredible talent of the band and the recording/mix was phenomenal.
Wow wow wow. So great. Thank you!
I don’t generally watch these, upon occasion, but it took me a total of a nanosecond to watch. One of my favorite guitarist and probably my favorite KC tune. All I can say is… Magnificent!
No offense, but you ought to! Daryl puts on a great show!
The antithesis of Hall and Oates. They pulled it off! Terrific!
Robert Fripp is a God!
I gotta say, that's an amazing performance. Shout out to the drummer who absolutely kept this performance in line, and the guitar player who had to perform this in front of the man himself. Music incarnate.
Love Mr. Fripp's perspective, music is universal, when he played amongst other musicians,.it was all the same
Could we have a couple more hours of this conversation . I still am in disbelief that there is only 70 some thousand subs. There is something not right here. How could Beato and these guys have millions while talking about music and you are playing some of the best music I have heard with a fraction of views. A profound thank you from a big fan of you and your great musicians.
Rick is great! Let's be happy for him!
Rick Beato should talk to David Singleton or Robert Fripp about obtaining permission to discuss Fripp's music or King Crimson.
I think Rick has volunteered that he is a fan of Fripp's.
Rick often has his videos demonetarized or blocked.
my god, if someone would have suggested we play Red, I would have jumped in a car and driven away, never to be seen again! To play Red, in front of the Crimson King, without practicing - you must be joking! Glad one and all survived and thank you for that gorgeous song!
Look: It's past bedtime. When I watch any iteration of Crimson, I'm awestruck at the intensity of 'brainpower' Fripp brings to musicians performing this music. Notice the communication between Robert and Daryl. It almost looks like Crimson is 'willing' preciseness, concentration, direction. I actually felt this even more after Daryl's solo. Look closely: a sliver of a second: the beat slips, and Daryl and Roberrt(!!) both chuckle, as if to agree 'Even Crimson couldn't deal with that one!
Red is my favorite King Crimson track and it was a delight to hear this version!
That look Robert threw at 2:06 is precious….
You can see Robert Fripp really enjoyed it. Crazy cat, a quintessential old fashion Englishman with a beautiful and quirky extrovert wife whom he loves deeply. Made all his more famous records +50 years ago. The Crimson King ladies and gentleman... 🎶
Fripp's guitar, so groovy. Love what Bowie and Eno said to Fripp when they were making Heroes, can you play some gnarly guitar for us. Fripp's guitar is the personification of gnarly.
Love those faces Robert is making, brilliant!
Mad genius. Also he was impressed the band kept up😅
I never thought I'd see this happen.... Red with a piano part. lol. super cool.
Oh, and that drummer. Playing Bruford’s part with the energy of Terry Bozzio. Awesome.
They should tour. That was excellent. Daryl killed it.
Daryl always kills it. always
I now have a new favorite episode of LIVE AT DARYL’S HOUSE. Holy sh*t!
Apparently people are largely unaware that Hall and Fripp recorded an album together
Aweomse!! I love watching Robert! Ya'll were so amazing. That was great fun.
Sacred Songs, the album Fripp and Hall did in the late 70s, is well worth finding.
Bold move but totally bossed it. Astounding work.
Love the dinner conversation. Wish I could be there.
good to see Daryl and Robert reunited; I loved 'Sacred Songs' when I first heard it and as a huge Crimson fan thought Hall was a perfect fit for the band. RCA thought differently...
When he talks about Charlie Parker's jazz album with strings, I'm totally with him. As a jazz enthusiast also, I feel Parker really exceeded himself with the string section arrangements. Just beautiful, pure art. Good call, Robert.
Always loved the combo of Hall and Fripp. It was such a weird idea, back in the day, but it worked. It's an incredible treat to see this mini-concert happen; I didn't think we'd ever see this. Well done!
Think at this point Daryl Hall is showing just how versatile musician he is, the fact that Robert flip is even there is crazy, Big King crimson fan, love Robert fripp, this was awesome
Ha! I knew it.Mr.Fripp asked Hall if he would say Grace, and his in his typical arrogance, replied" I can".Robert chimes in the same Prayer that my sons British grandfather always says.I suspected Fripp's faith tradition as it makes perfect sense within his musical work.Heavenly Music Corp.
Daryl Hall... who knew he was such a cat! Pulling together so many great players over the years through Live At... Ambitious and wide ranging, but I never expected King Crimson! Beyond cool and a real treat for music lovers. Thanks to Daryl, the amazing session players, and Fripp.
I have just finished commissioning the cover art from the court of the crimson king on a wall at my home. I have wanted it all my life since I laid eyes on it as a callow youth. I bought the album without listening to the tracks, but fell in love with them as well. I am a happy man. Bless you Robert.
This is not the first time I have heard Robert tell his story about hearing A Day in the Life on the radio and knowing that he could not go to university as had been the plan, and that he had to change his life. Most musicians who actually become successful seem to have a similar story about a particular moment when they simply knew that this was their destiny.
Chapeau utterly brilliant
Fripp and Hall are the best and sympatico buddies... I am as Fripp KC Red inspored Violinplayer with Drum Violin Band Trio tryimg to be always up to date whats real and fresh and important, like Darryl Hall. He plays exactly my fave Tune with Frippi these days.. They didnt rehearse.. It took KC 3 Days to learn.I can do it at once too. Dig it.. Thanx my Influencers .. Hall and Fripp
Priceless! And so much fun!
(I've never seen Robert enjoy himself so much whilst playing. So, hat's off to you, Daryl!)
Great to hear Robert Fripp playing with Daryl's band. King Crimson one of the first and most influential Prog Rock bands of all time. Innovation to endless musical possibilities
Amazing!!!
Robert Fripp and Darryl Hall playing the most influential song of modern music... Red!
Hall & Fripp, IMPOSSIBLE!!!!
I love the Brits he gets on the show. Glenn Tilbrook & then Fripp!! Wow just Wow!! I'd love it if he could get Elvis Costello &/or Bryan Ferry on.🙏
Brian Ferry's voice is shot unfortunately. I love him but he can't hold a tune in a bucket these days.
Is it because Daryl's house is near Dublin?
@@BestLife1133 Ask Daryl?
@@Jenjenilou I'm thinking they could get through 3 or 4 songs together swapping verses & stuff. "Dance Away" isn't to demanding a song & there are others of the same ilk.
