You are very welcome! It is really an amazing backpack and I am sure that bonfus will grow to a well known big brand for quality outdoor equipment in no time 👍 ATB Stripey
Thanks for this review. I have the Bonfus Iterus 38 and find it to be a top quality item. It's tough, durable and very comfortable and plenty big enough for me for a weekend on the hills. I have now also ordered the Saccus 48 to replace an Exped Lightening 45 (which I also highly recommend) for longer hikes. Like you, I found the Bonfus hip belt pockets too small and got larger ones from Treadlite Gear UK which are around the same price, a good bit larger, and extremely well made.
@@crivensjings thanks! Yeah bonfus is underrated imo. I wasn’t sure with the ultra material but so far no signs of wear and tear. Couldn’t be happier with the pack. Said this in summer I used a second hand zpacks Nero (robic version, got it for 42 pounds) and really like it for the warmer season, couldn’t find the Iterus 38 at this time anywhere near this price point which is sad for me but a good sign for bonfus 😅
Great overview, thank you. I think as their packs are made in Mexico, although they are European company, you would need to ship it to Mexico for any warranty repairs. And they seem to ask the customer to cover shipping costs too. PS: I used to work in an outdoor gear shop, and the Osprey bags always had the worst zips - really stiff and difficult to use. Also the bags were heavy. That was a long time ago before ultralight bags were popular, but I remember it really turned me off ever buying any Osprey bags.
Hi Chris, oh I was in the impression that they use the facility in Italy or in Mexico, depending on your location. Just responded to you other comment, let me know if you have any other questions- probably best below this video as it relates more. Thanks a lot Stripey
Hey Stripey, thank you for a detailed and thorough review. I’m debating between the atom packs Mo vx60 or the Framus 58l. Is the pack comfortable on long hikes and what is the lumber support like?
Hi William 👋, Thanks a lot! For me the backpack is super comfortable, my longest hike I did with a wild camp kit was 66km in two days with a food supply of 3 days in the Cairngorms. I had/have still some lower back issues from an old injury - however, I have no issues or a sore lower back after carrying the bonfus framus over a long period 👍 Hope it helps, ATB Stripey
Heavily considering this pack for myself, certainly need to save a couple bucks with thw rest of my gear but i appreciate your personal experience with the pack.
Thanks a lot! Planned a long time ago review of the pack after one year of usage but somehow I am not finding the mojo for it. The rucksack has held up absolutely fantastic no issues at all. The only thing which it lost a little bit is the ‘waterproofness’ of the material so I use a pack liner now. Said this I talked recently with Niccolo and he said that this I with the newer fabric not the case anymore. I believe him, but even with my version I am still super happy. Why am I using currently a frameless 38l pack? Well I got it very cheap and sometimes I just have the feeling I want to try something new 🫣 When you have any questions regarding the pack just ask - really hope that I get this review as well as my duomid review done at some point 😂 Cheers Stripey
Hello Stripey Hat Guy - this is the best review on this backpack! I first watched it around a year ago, and now I'm watching it again because I'm in the market for an UL pack, and this is my main choice for similar reasons to yours 🙂 Can I ask how the Ultra 200 material is holding up? Have you had any delamination issues? Bonfus now only offers it in that on their website, no more DCF or XPAC (unless I email maybe). The material longevity is one worry for me because I'd like to use this pack for a long time, so any long-term experience you could share would be much appreciated!
Hi 👋, so far I have no delamination issues or any other faults on the pack! It holds up strong. The one thing I want to say so is that the ice pick holder (upper bungee cord) is just to weak and I will replace mine on the next trip required…drove me mad on the trip in the Cairngorms with Sam. Hope it helps. Cheers Stripey
Merci pour la revue sur le sac à dos , c'est une marque que je ne connaissais pas , je me rappelle pas l'avoir vue au Canada . I hope it will be a good investment for you on the long term 👋
Hi, yepp richtig ☺️.
Great review Stripey, mine has an annoying ‘creak’, I’m sure it’s one of the frame stays but not 100%, have you had similar issues? (Apart from that, it’s a fantastic pack)
Hi I just got a Framus 58, were you able to get the shoulder pad strap off to feed the water bottle on, as I am struggling to do so, oh yes great review video, it helped make the decision to get the pack 🙂👍
Hi Paul 👋, thanks a lot! Yeah I know what you mean. I needed to pull the shoulder fastener out and through the buckle. After it was ‘free’ I put it on the rear of the bottle holder and through the two elastic bands and back through the buckle (I used the other shoulder pad strap as a reference!). It was quite a tight fit tbh. and I was close to give up to get it out and back through the buckle! last but not least I fastened the Velcro onto the daisy chain. It is a fantastic tight fit out of question but getting it on is painful!!! Hope my description was understandable, if not please ask. ATB Stripey
Yeah that is what you need Paul. Not sure if the newer version differs from mine but I used also a flat piece of metal (I have like a Swiss Army knife style full of metal sheets - don’t know the English word for it but you need it to adjust the ignition distance in cars) to push it through as my fingers couldn’t push it down and pull it through. I am sure you will manage eventually, worth the effort as so far the bottle holder is unmatched (I have a zpacks as well as an mld and neither is close to it)
@@StripeyHatGuy Hi Stripey, using the feeler gauges worked perfectly and the bottle holder is now fitted 🙂, thanks for tip. Good luck with your start up for the stove set 🙂
Hi Adge 👋, I am afraid that I can't help you with that as I usually order things to my parents back in Germany and I pick things up when I visit them 😎 ATB Stripey
what do you think of the ventilation system in the back of the bonfus framus? Because I sweat a lot and it is important for me😥, I am choosing a new trekking backpack between zpacks and bonfus..
For me personally it is only a little warmer than my previously used Osprey Atmos with the mesh. I wouldn't say that I sweat more in the bonfus, said this I have generally a wet back when I carry a rucksack up a hill/mountain 😉
I have been interested in this pack for a while, specially after an extremly rainy summer in the swedish mountains, but for some reason haven't come to a decision. I have a Tarptent Notch Li and I like to carry it in the sidepocket. Do you think there is room enough on this pack? Thanks for a nice review!
Hi Sandra 👋, not sure about the Tarpent Notch Li dimensions, I can fit from the dimensions a 1 liter Nalgene bottle (round) in as well a 500ml water bottle, or a 1.5l bottle plus my 1l water filter. I cann fit the Scarp 1 without the poles into the pocket as well, with the poles (pole + cross poles) it won't fit. Let me know if it helps or if you need any 'measurements'. Thanks Stripey
I assume 38cm is the length...that would fit. Just checked short the Tarpent webpage.... apparently it is 41cm(length) X 10cm (width). That will definitely fit as the side pocket has a width of ~13.5cm and it stretches a bit. Might be a tight fit, when the pack is really stuffed at the bottom. Edit: Assuming the packed tent like a big roll packed up.
What are the dimensions of this backpack when the roll top is rolled all the way? How wide is the pack and depth? Do you think you could take the pack on an airline carryon if it was compressed?
Hi Andrew 👋, will have a measurement when I am home. Regarding the carryon it is difficult to give any advice as every airplane seems to have their own restrictions nowadays...
Hi Andrew, sorry for the late reply: Rolltop rolled all the way down = alloy frame length = 55cm width of the pack (from one side pocket to the other...empty) = 30cm depth/thickness (empty mesh pocket) = 23cm I measured it with two big sofa pillows in the bag, so empty side and mesh pockets. Hope it helps. ATB Stripey Edit: My pack is in large.
great rucksack, bit pricey for me. i could really use a new one, my 20 year old litchfield explorer 60+10 is heavy and pretty beat up now, not sure how many more falls or rough handling on luggage racks it can handle hehehe anyway, enjoyed the gear review, i hope you find the time to do some more, or just general tips for gear care etc.
Yeah it definitely is rather on the pricey side of things - hopefully it will last as long as my Osprey before 😎. Both Bonfus & Hyperlite Mountain Gear manufacture their backpacks in Mexico. From your considerations only Atom Packs are sewn in the UK.
That is right...but it changes nothing with the guarantee within EU (Italy).
