Mate, you deserve more views, likes and subscribes for your humor alone! Not to mention the time and effort you've spent in researching testing and editing! Props to your work!
My partner and I have been using the Gregory Focal and Facet (female version) for 2 years now. We both love them! They've been put through hell and havent missed a trick. All season all conditions of Australia.
The Durston Kakwa 55 is great. The Junction tends to change to an uncomfortable barrel shape when filled up. Of the two, the Kakwa is more comfortable. I’m 6 foot, 180 lbs.
I have a ACT Deteur. By no means a UL pack, but wholly hell that pack took a beating. It’s been thrown, abused, soaked by insane amount of rain, smacked by some heavy winds, packed, repacked, thrown down, pulled, pushed, kicked, and sat on and it looks pretty much as it did they day I bought it. Served me well on 3 long trips and many airport handlings. I have a small form and narrow shoulders and I carry some natural weight in the front. This pack was excellent, but it is on a heavy side so I’m looking for something lighter. Cool video. One of the more informative out there. I am leaning towards gossamer because I don’t want to sacrifice comfort too much but do want to cut some weight.
The Levity is a whipping, squeeking sack. It’s inner bladder compartment is so flimsy that it gets torn in pieces by any hard equipment. It’s side pockets are too tight as soon as the pack gets a little more stuff inside. Resulting in useless, flat pockets. You’d have to take off your pack to squeeze back your water bottles. Other than that: I love it ! ( but I’m a little odd ). Besides: the Levity has not been on offer last time I’ve looked at the Osprey webside Try Atom Pack(s) they’re awesome
I really like the mesh/netting back panel on the gregory focal and osprey exos is very comfortable. I like how breathable it is in warm weather. In cool weather it can almost feel a bit drafty.
What in the golden crappleberry pie have you been doing all my life? Instant subscribe. I don’t even really hike but I love this so much I’d absolutely watch your reviews. I feel like I could binge watch your reviews even if they’re not relevant to me lol. Truly
You have a sense of humor, but as an international viewer and as English is not my first language I found it hard to follow. So I need subtitles for the first time on this type of channel.😊
I am surprised you left the top dog off your list, Zpacks. I own other packs but if your going truly light bypass all these packs and just go light. The Zpacks Arc series packs greatly reduce the back sweat. No hate on Hyper Lite but they are on the heavy side for what you are paying. My Granite Gear 38 L weighs about the same for third the cost. One more thing Zpacks is made in the USA not by some 12 year old chained to a sewing machine working for next to nothing. There are also many other made in the USA options. Lite AF for example. All of these packs will get you light but not necessarily UL, sub ten pound base weight. My base weight is sub eight pounds and I am just as comfortable as I was with fourteen pounds, just lighter gear. Nice video and great humor. Take care
Great feedback and advice, thanks so much for taking the time to comment! Agreed, we'd like to get Zpacks in the mix for a future round, Granite Gear too for that matter. Good stuff and love these cottage brands that manufacture more and more locally. Cheers!
My second Osprey backpack - Levity ends up with the same issue as my first. The dwr coat inside gets sticky, even after they boast that it is a newer/better dwr than the older models. Personally, wont be buying Osprey bags ever again.
Thanks for sharing your favorite backpacks list but I am surprised to see that you didn’t include Zpacks Archaul UL which is the best ultralight backpack in the market so far!
You are hysterical. I had to watch to the end. Great review on the lightweight backpacks. Will have to check out your other review. Thanks for sharing.
I own the 🦍 and the kumo 36 and also the murmur. The kumo is by far the best pack out of the three. Was able to do a sub six pound gear load out with the murmur. The kumo can carry 25 pounds comfortably.
I have the Kumo 36 but haven’t really got to use it yet. Was considering the Gorilla too for a Camino because it has the internal frame but may stick with the Kumo. It really is exceptionally light and well put together!
@@Michael-0000 I was hoping to use mine on the AZT next year , however I used my 🦍 on the Grand enchantment trail and it would have been overstuffed had I continued past the Gila Hot springs. I'm thinking about using my old granite gear Virgo that I bought back in 2017.
Thanks for the laugh. Have you considered making a video "Sh!t ultralight backpackers say". Sorry you weren't able to include Zpacks, ULA, Six Moon Designs, Pa'lante, Outdoor Evolution, Outdoor Vitals, and many more cottage companies. I feel like each has a pack that could out perform 80% of the "best" shared here. I appreciate the effort though! 👍
That would be hilarious, I love that idea! And yes, all great companies you listed that we would love to include in the future. Hoping my DoorDash gig picks up to replenish my backpack budget. 😜
@@theoutdoorempire I own two, what I like about them is that you literally have hundreds of choices you can make in creating the pack that works best for you.
My problem with small packs in the bear can. No way it fits, yes you can strap it to the outside, but now it’s baking in the sun all day creating a whole lot of stank where I don’t want it
I got myself a fully featured well padded 2.1lb [on my scale] "Free Knight - Trekking 60" (but they come with several different names) 60L pack on ama zon and it came with a free rain cover AND hip belt pockets. You should definitely review one of those. They're about $45, but I got mine for $33 on a sale. I can hear the cries now, "But how long will it last!" Well, I've read in reviews that they last thru-hikes just like the $500 (when equipped with the same features) non-ama zon ultralight packs that end up weighing about the same. Ultralighters don't keep their half thousand dollar packs for more than a season or two. If someone comes out with a pack that slashes 3 grams off their base weight, they sell their sub-2 year old flagship packs for pennies on the dollar and put the new pack on their credit card. It's a legit disease, a dysfunction if you will.
May the prosecution present his arguments! 😂 Indeed, I think a lot of people would agree with you. I do too on a couple (the Sierra Designs and maybe the Gregory). But these packs are all marketed and advertised as ultralight and while there are certainly lighter packs out there, the "ultralight" line is gray and open to interpretation.
@@theoutdoorempire , sure, Osprey and Gregory have lighter packs than in the past, but where are the Zpacks? Well under two pounds, unlike the examples in your video.
Sarcasm aside, I don't disagree with ultralight hikers and while I'm not in as great of shape as many ultralighters, I do dabble in it myself. I use these packs too. The dry humor (or lack thereof) was intended to be lighthearted ribbing at myself and a community of hikers that often take things a bit too seriously. It was all in good fun. Apologies if it offended you! Cheers.

Awfully kind of you to say, thank you! It's a work in progress but I'll keep at it.
After spending weeks researching backpacking packs this video offered the most perspective. Please do more backpack videos!
Glad to hear it! It was a bit tongue in cheek but I'm glad the insight was helpful to you.
Which packs are you considering? Did you check out BONFUS?

clever commentary. This isn't the type of pack that I was trying to research but I watched the entire video anyway. Well done and thanks 🙂
Thanks for stopping by!
Forclaz MT900 50L+10L is a good budget option. Come to that, it's just a good option.
I love Decathlon gear! Thanks for the tip.

I think that's a pretty good option for you then. That Deuter sounds like a tank!
Do you mean Deuter AC Lite series?
Sarcasm is like a 2nd language to me! I very much enjoyed this video
I'm glad! It was all in the name of lighthearted good fun. I hope you're not a dentist? 😬
I’m 58 years old and my total weight I carry for 1 week is 20lbs. I’m comfortable and safe. Wish we had this shit when I was younger

Best reviewer out there. Punch lines made me a fan and subscriber.

Hahahahah. Crappleberry pie...so that's what I've been eating all my life. This little number was an experiment but perhaps I shall do more like it.

💯

Great content but you missed big time by sharing osprey and Gregory and not the Durston Kakwa 55. Far better than it’s competition IMO.
Thanks for the feedback, will keep it in mind for the future!
Dude your intro sound is INCREDIBLY loud and grating. you need to lower it or increase your audio recording volume to match it
