I know they are from that majority of the audience who make decisions listening to typical car reviewer, who hardly talk about the technical stuff. A small addition to Thar history - in 1953, along with CJ3B, Mahindra had also bought the license, design, dies and machinery to build Jeep M38. M38 is the father to both Jeep CJ5 & Mahindra MM540/550. But for some reason, despite possesing them since the beginning, M&M only used those design 30 years later in 1985 when they launched MM540.
I am an Automotive enthusiast and always keen to learn new things. Thank you for sharing such a good knowledge with us. I am so happy that you have made people aware with the technical tactics, which you have explained in very much detail and made me and my vision a lot clear. Comparing the vehicle in a right way, you have told that every fine details should be taken in concern while buying the vehicle. I will surely watch your other videos and wish u keep shining and keep spreading the good knowledge. Thank you.
I have seen many car reviews by many known channels but your is way ahead in terms of quality, details and research!! Bro, I will be waiting for your reviews and whenever I buy a new vehicle, I won't buy without watching your reviews on that vehicle!! Would love to watch your videos on regular passenger cars too apart from 4x4s!! Thanks a ton!!
I appreciate that! Please share with the friends on WhatsApp and continue to watch. I’m a purist 4wheeler so let me exhaust the 4wd first and then go to passenger cars 😀which one you want ?
@tripaccino Because of anti corrosion treated body, I prefer vw virtus 1.5L petrol as I live near coastal area in Gujarat but at that price point there are many cars available including Thar Roxx hence checked your video and my confusion multiplied🙂!!

"Thank you so much for taking the time to share your in-depth review of the Mahindra Thar! Your comprehensive analysis has answered every question most people could possibly think of, and I'm deeply grateful for your valuable insight into this unique and cult-driven off-roader. Your expertise and enthusiasm shine through in your review, making it an absolute pleasure to watch. Thank you for providing such a detailed and informative assessment - it's a game-changer for anyone considering purchasing the Mahindra Thar especially with all the hype it has created. I appreciate your contribution to the off-roading community and look forward to more of your non biased reviews in the future!" As someone who owns and drives a customised thar crde from m&m customisation you can see how this has helped me make my choice to stick with what I have currently and build a better suspension to make it more comfortable on and off-road.
The best Thar ROXX review IMO! Subscribed and liked immediately! Could you please make a video on the 2.0L M-Stallion engines, about its technical details, what makes it different from other T-GDi engines, etc. As a user of this engine, it will be really interesting to know more about it as details of M-hawk are only available everywhere 😅
Genuinely, i loved the content you showed here. "Beutiful" I seen countless videos on internet like about lauch videos of car/vehicle, first impressions videos, detailed reviews; but never seen something like this. I definitely got the value form your video. Keep it up👍
You have a subscriber! I was pleasantly surprised to come across your channel. Your review of the Thar Roxx trumps everything else that I have seen on the net and sets the benchmark in automotive journalling. Congrats and looking forward to seeing the rest of your videos.
What great content! Loved it... I have Alturas G4 and a part of 80 Alturas owner what's app group.. I know the SUV has been discontinued... Do you think you could make something similar on Alturas ?
@@GhoshRohan The SsangYong Rexton (G4 Alturas) was one of the most under rated cars in India- I liked its packaging a lot and did a writing piece on it in detail back then. I can Lin that piece if you are interested Mahindra ,for that time, was very ambitious with its pricing and hence it was not as successful as it should have been. It was a good product but bad timing. It was too early for its time. Mahindra today is selling Scorpio N at more than that cost and the market today is ready for it. If you notice , much of the learning’s from the Korean Alturas has indeed filtered into the Scorpion N. Some fun facts in tripaccino style- #Rexton = Kings Tone ( Rex = king , ton= tone) # SsangYong was the second largest Korean car maker at its peak. They had a pickup truck called Musso; which got licensed by Daimler Benz P.S: To make a good piece on the Alturas, I’ll need the 🚘 car to drive it, study it and record it.
The Alturas G4 (2019) A huge, expansive vehicle which may not steal hearts with its looks, but definitely not something that only its mother could love (excuse the most boring alloys in the world). Well appointed, opulent interiors with good quality materials that put it amongst the best in segment. An acceptable powertrain that uses a Benz sourced box and a ssangyong 2.2 motor. Among the smaller displacement engines in the lineup, still putting out respectable numbers. Impressively quiet cabin for something that wears a M&M badge. A long list of goodies to keep the owners happy, with even a few exclusive bragging rights in the segment. Though not splendid ride quality, I felt it rides as well, or a tad better, than the most selling competitor. Let me stick my neck out and say that the Alturas is the most under-rated car in this line-up. The rebadged Rexton doesn't 'excel' in any one department, but you bet it does a consistent 'good' in all departments and that's a appreciable entry attempt from Mahindra into this segment. On paper at least, it ticks most boxes and appears to be bundled as a convincing package. But only one person I know has actually gone ahead and bought one. (The fact that he owns the company and shares his last name with the car's doesn't make him count, I guess.) What went wrong? Well even in the International markets where the G4 is on sale, it's forced to over-work and overkill just to stay in the race- loaded to the gills with features (heated steering wheel, radar tech etc.) But there, it offers all that and more at an irresistibly inviting price against the more established competition. This is the penalty the car pays, for the double dragon on its hood. It knows this well and plays to its strengths as a value offering, sufficiently cheaper than the competition. Rebadging here, has made it forget that in India and that humility has been lost in badge translation. It is slotted at par on price with the much more established rivals, but its ambition is premature. Mahindra wants to wear the big boy pants and jump into the ring with the Fortuner, but the market doesn't think its ready yet and the sales numbers reflect that. This is not to say that the G4 is not worth the ask in a sum of parts sense. It does offer quite a lot for its price. But, Instead of a CKD route, if it had been heavily localised and built here and priced aggressively, well below the Isuzu, smack in the middle of the 12 lakh darien gap that the company wants us to jump over its next lowest priced offering (XUV5OO AT AWD), the G4 would have carved out a nice segment for its own. It would have definitely made a convincing argument for those, like myself, being forced, unwillingly to climb up all the way to the 35+ D2 for a decent upgrade. It would have been the first mover into this new segment and lay in wait for the Tata H7X. That would have been fair game. But where it stands today, it's simply overshadowed by the radiance of Toyota Fortuner.
Can you please explain about your comparsion with Duster mentioned in the video ?. Are you saying that it is as good as Duster or is it far from that ?.
Rumours and media houses claim that the ride quality is as good/better than the Renault Dacia Duster. The Duster is a monocoque with a squat that gave it superb ride quality (on and off-road). the Roxx is body on frame and is good for BOF standards but cannot match duster, not even Compass Creta. It is the nature of the platform.
Sir I drive a diesel Ecosport 2021 and plan to upgrade to the Roxx Diesel AT. I wanted a RWD badly and the Jeep form Factor always tugged at my heart. Ecosport has a stiff suspension and it’s a joy only on highways and fast speeds. Will the Thar Roxx be similar?
@tripaccino you need to focus more on improving the algorithm prioritization for your videos and work on better SEO optimization, or perhaps consider starting with some paid promotions for greater visibility. Coming back to the review-this is exactly what I was looking for! The detailed explanation of the technology behind the Thar Roxx and its comparison with other cars is spot on. As a Harrier owner, I find this car to be a true jack-of-all-trades. I’ve already booked one for myself, though I still need to make a trip to the bank. 😊
It is sufficient. Power to weight is still healthy and drives well. (But They should have given the higher tune for both auto and manual on top end variants at least)
Sir, i am from Arunachal Pradesh which has hilly and wet climatic conditions. I need to know according to the topographic which i mentioned, should i choose 4X4 in Automatic or Manual version? Plz do reply sir.
This is not the kind of review we NEED but the kind of review we DESERVE.. This is a gem of video - especially for car enthusiasts like me. Please continue this kind of analysis in future as well.
very neatly put together brother. This is probably the true example of how a review should be unlike rest of the big channels. Delivering something for one hour needs knowledge only knowledge brother. I soon will be having the 5 door one. Heard some niggles are there but it’s ok. Everything cannot be hassle free and we are men.
Perfect perfect just perfect 💎. This is why I pay for the internet. However slight improvement areas i noticed is 1. Audio quality could have been better. 2. Shot Footages have haze and are slightly undesirable. 3. Thumbnail feels bloated All these are not at all an issue but you can surely improve it. Other than that i personally love this video and you have earned another subscriber. Keep it up brother 🔥🙌🏼🥂
Thanks for the honest feedback. I appreciate it. Please watch my latest Scorpio N video and comment if the audio q would be rated better than this video?
Best and most Detailed review of the Thar Roxx. The bits comparing it with various options like Gurkha 5 Door, Jimney, Creta etc are very articulate and bang on. Keep it up. The Thar Roxx is a great improvement over Thar 3 door, and it will sell a lot, but is it better than the Gurkha for my use case is the big question for me. You can't as a buyer improve much on the Thar Roxx, but can do a lot of customisation with the Gurkha to make it serve your purpose better.
That’s bang on and that’s why I festive the Gurkha as a blank canvas that you can build it out into anything you want. It’s a great car for what it can become and for not what it is .
Initially I thought 37 minutes is way too long ,I watched it twice by now .Kudos sir your review took it to next level.Every thing I needed and much more.Could you please do similar video specifically to thar roxx torque converter and engine as it does not seem to be a bolt on and Mahindra might have tweaked it specifically to thar. All the very best 👍🏽
Sir have you seen the videos going round about Roxx vibrating vigorously in reverse gear and in high rpm. Kindly create a video explaining this problem/ no problem.
Torque surge. I will explain in the Scorpio video. I can make the front wheels do the same . It’s just that so much viral content gets unnecessary traction and million views. Truth is under the hood and it’s so difficult to bring it out. I’ll try
@tripaccino your review is Rocking as like Roxx. One question, you haven't mentioned anything about the petrol engine . In your opinion, does it make sense for someone who's only going to do long highway trips occasionally to go for petrol instead of the 2.2 diesel engine? Assuming the car stays parked for and not driven much and mostly in a month approx 500km only driving. I like Thar Roxx too much , that is why i want yto buy. I am planning to buy AX7L diesel RWD. Can i go for same varient of Petrol considering 1 lakh less price. How much milage will i get for city and highways. Diesel how much milage ?.Please clarify.
Hey @tripaccino , thanks for the detailed review. What would you suggest automatic or manual in mx5 or ax5l , for mostly touring or road trips . Some did mention to me about the Scorpio-N manual gearbox clutch plate issue. Currently both my cars are manual
Awesome review. Very detailed. Your videos are such a pleasant change in TH-cam reviewing world. I do have a request though. Kindly make a video on petrol turbo GDI engine of Mahindra. Its long term reliability, do’s and dont’s, maintenance tips etc. IMO no such video is available on this petrol engine. Your analysis and insights would immensely help existing/prospective buyers of this petrol engine. Thanks.
I booked Jimny in the month of July'24, and cancelled it next day only. Fortunately I met one old friend who loves off-roading and knows a lot about car mechanics as he runs a very reputed garage. I came to know that 5D Jimny comes with lots of problems some of which are very serious in nature. Brake issue in higher altitudes, propeller shaft touching cross member, leaning on right side to name a few. May buy Roxx but only after a year when most of the niggles will be sorted. What is your opinion sir ?
Another great review, no nonsense masala edits, zooms and pan. Phenomenal conclusion, always wanted a jeep style vehicle. But kept delaying the purchase for all the reasons u mentioned. At one stage zeroed in on gurkha, then on jimmy for daily practicality, then on thar and now rox. If I have a deep pocket I would book my gurkha, Scorpio n and jimmy. But I have a shallow pocket with many holes, I guess Rox would be my way at 49 years old... Can't delay my purchase to my grave😂. Ur conclusion rightly nailed it....
Excellent review! One question, you haven't mentioned anything about the petrol engine of the new thar. In your opinion, does it make sense for someone who's only going to do long highway trips occessionly to go for petrol instead of the 2.2 diesel engine? Assuming the car stays parked for and not driven much otherwise. Asking for a friend, obviously 😊
@@tripaccino your review is Rocking as like Roxx. The question which was asked applicable to me also. I am planning to buy AX7L diesel RWD. Can i go for same varient of Petrol considering 1 lakh less price. How much milage will i get for city and highways. Diesel how much milage. Please clarify.
Sometimes I feel.. wish I could get an evening.. just sitting & talking to you about cars, off-road, tyres, gearboxes bla bla bla... Kya maza aata! Very nice... Absolute gem
Not sure about the ride quality, bub it did offer front/rear torque spliting at a time when other mfrs did not. Also not sure if the Hexa had a central diff/viscous coupling to overcome the "chirping" problem. It was a great product for its time, but sadly did not have the development time needed to iron out issues that Tata is known for. It had the same kerb wt as the Q7 (2.3 tons ~) but fell short on other key parameters. Yes, it did have a body-on-chasis structure and Tata has not made a RWD/4WD SUV thereafter.
This is a review from someone who knows what he's talking about. Auto media houses these days are just not credible. If you could actually bring an actual offroad comparison between the 3 offroaders that would be great. Subbed and thanks for such an amazing in depth video
@@tripaccino Iam looking for a secondary 4wd vehicle. I live in Himachal and I don't intend on doing any off-road for the sake of it but I could really use one in the winters when it snows heavily here. The other use case being reaching some remote places my FWD can't get to. I have not driven any of these before. My 4wd experience has only been in a gypsy and bolero camper 4wd. Since these 3 approach off-roading very differently which one do you think would suit my use-case of snow and mud the best ? Thanks.
Best in depth review and so far, till date the best of Thar ROXX review.. not just reading specs out of the books but getting in core of the car mechanics. Guys please let us support so that he can keep up the awesome work!
Amazing tech details. Unlike other Auto channels, I liked the video format. This gives a good understanding to viewer whether to consider buying it or not. Kudos to tripaccino
Nice explanation. Could you also explain how the diminutive Jimny is able to maintain a good cadence on offroad trails with its relatively puny 140 NM torque and a crawl ratio of ~36?
Yes, definitely. Torque to weight ratio. Small torque but early traction. Super ALLGRIP system works smartly. Gearing setup for low end. Top end is dead zone as petrol pot tapers off Weight is enemy off-road . Altos fly up hill roads while burly SUVs struggle for the same reason. See how a monocoque Dacia Duster AWD tackles off-road like a boss. Pure torque to weight at play.
@@theacechip I would love to do a proper off-road show down between J_G_T trio. Not the vanilla version that media houses are doing, driving through some slush and calling it off-road. I want pure technical obstacles that test each ones strength and weakness. I would need volunteer cars., that's the challenge. We are not big enough (yet)to pull company cars, but I don't want it to be company moderated, so would love volunteer cars
Hi bhai, I’m considering the Force Gurkha as an option. I’m looking for a 4x4 vehicle under 50 lakh, primarily for long-term travel across India (not all at once, but over time). My travels will include hilly and snowy areas. I live in Uttarakhand. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
I'm not sure if you're aware of Moving Metal Garage based out in Delhi, a thar modifiers who have this lift kit kind of thing which lifts the whole chassis instead of other lift kits like one of Dr nano. I'm curious if that lift kit of them is a good choice to go with ? Does it effect the ride quality
Im aware of lift kit. There are two special videos on that in our channel. It will affect ride if not done properly. Please watch my channel for the types of lift kit and which one is best.
@@tripaccino I watched your video after this comment where you installed a kit in your Gurkha. That lift changed the angles of almost all joints. You also said that you're gonna drop the differential in future to reduce the stress off of that joint. In MMG, they are offering something which drops the chasis of vehicle which allows you to add bigger tires and better suspension without changing the angles of various rods. From all this I concluded that MMG kit is good as I'll bring almost no change to the ride quality and handling. Why handing ? Because they wide the stance of the tires while increasing the height which ultimately maintains the center of gravity. See, I'm not at all an expert in these mechanics. I'm a newbie who's just trying to figure out the best option for lifting my thar without or with minimal hindrance to the ride quality and handling. Please tell me if my conclusion makes any sense or I need to do a bit more research on this. And which video I should watch of yours to understand the difference between suspension kit and body kit.

Hello Nice review and appreciate the effort ! I had a question for you and I would appreciate a response. I had a quick test drive few days back, liked the vehicle and ended up booking Thar ROXX with Mocha interiors. I found it to be a good mix of lifestyle choice and almost a family friendly car. But, I am still not quite sure about my decision and may cancel the same in coming weeks. Delivery timeline will also affect my decision as the earliest expected date for my variant is in February 2025. My primary usage will be in city with around 30kms a day and around 3000kms a year on long trips passing through ghat sections and a bit of bad roads. Bad roads are also in plenty in and around the area where I reside and hence a rugged vehicle helps overall. I found quite a few ergonomic issues such as the bottle holder space which makes me thinking. In particular, I found the front seat quite uncomfortable. It had less under thigh support. And both legs were hitting on something. On left side, it is on some projection from the dashboard and on right side the control panel on the door. I didn't find this getting mentioned in many reviews including yours. Absence of telescopic steering blocks resolution of that problem by moving the seat back. What is your take on this?
This is very unique to the customers individual experience. Try back to back test drive of Roxx and Scorpio. And also try a crossover for comfort benchmarking in the same time frame. You will get your answer. 👍

Nice bit . Thanks for the add!

I can Lin that piece if you are interested
Mahindra ,for that time, was very ambitious with its pricing and hence it was not as successful as it should have been. It was a good product but bad timing. It was too early for its time. Mahindra today is selling Scorpio N at more than that cost and the market today is ready for it. If you notice , much of the learning’s from the Korean Alturas has indeed filtered into the Scorpion N. Some fun facts in tripaccino style-
#Rexton = Kings Tone ( Rex = king , ton= tone)
# SsangYong was the second largest Korean car maker at its peak. They had a pickup truck called Musso; which got licensed by Daimler Benz
P.S: To make a good piece on the Alturas, I’ll need the 🚘 car to drive it, study it and record it.

The Alturas G4 (2019)
A huge, expansive vehicle which may not steal hearts with its looks, but definitely not something that only its mother could love (excuse the most boring alloys in the world). (The fact that he owns the company and shares his last name with the car's doesn't make him count, I guess.)
What went wrong?
I wanted a RWD badly and the Jeep form
Factor always tugged at my heart.
It is sufficient. Power to weight is still healthy and drives well.

Any Tata Mahindra, wait for first year to iron out niggles
Another great review, no nonsense masala edits, zooms and pan. Phenomenal conclusion, always wanted a jeep style vehicle. But kept delaying the purchase for all the reasons u mentioned. At one stage zeroed in on gurkha, then on jimmy for daily practicality, then on thar and now rox. If I have a deep pocket I would book my gurkha, Scorpio n and jimmy.

Top end is dead zone as petrol pot tapers off
Weight is enemy off-road . Altos fly up hill roads while burly SUVs struggle for the same reason.

Yes. With snow chains will do
I'm not sure if you're aware of Moving Metal Garage based out in Delhi, a thar modifiers who have this lift kit kind of thing which lifts the whole chassis instead of other lift kits like one of Dr nano.
