- In this tutorial I’ll show you how I made the TOWDG3 Dodge Power Wagon Proline body for a customised Axial SCX10 tow truck chassis.
Lexan / polycarbonate rc car body painted on both sides using salt technique to create a rusty look.
I also use real rust and pigments to enhance the weathered look.

Dans ce tutoriel je vais vois montrer comment j’ai réalisé la carrosserie du Dogdge Power Wagon TOWDG3 installée sur un Axial SCX10 modifié en dépanneuse.
La carrosserie en lexan a été peinte sur les deux faces en utilisant la technique au sel. J’ai aussi utilisé de la vraie rouille et des pigments pour renforcer l’effet.

@@drummerdad80 Brush the salt when it's dry, otherwise paint will spread and soften the effect

I just wanted to thank you for sharing your ideas. I did my first attempt at weathering and it looks awesome. Don’t get me wrong, I made a few mistakes. Some, I was able to call good mistakes others, I would not do again on my next one. I wish I could show you what you inspired.

fullspeeddesign I'd love to show you the truck... But not quite sure how... Got a good bit of work still to do on it, but the body same came out great. Thanks again... There's an RC related site called Magnatfied.... It's on there, in the "What did you do to your RCs today?" thread... Old rusty '66 F100 with a wooden stakeside bed on it...
I've put a quick vid on TH-cam of the truck... next one will be similar, red, maybe a little less rusty, but this is the way to go for me from now on... now I'm doing a Power Wagon for my buddy. They say imitaion is the sincerest form of flattery...👍🇨🇦
Stunning work! I’m just about to paint a Proline F100 66 Ford cab, and you have changed my plan with it, I’ll try out your techniques now. I have also just started a ‘ground up’ build based on the VS4-10 chassis, that will be using the Mojave 2 four door hard body from RC4WD. I really didn’t know what colour to paint it, or if I should try and weather it, or not. You know I’m absolutely gonna try and use some of your techniques on that too! (one minor mention - maybe a little more footage of the finished truck before fading out to the end of the clip, so we can appreciate them even more without them being hidden since TH-cam puts preview thumbnails up on top of the screen at that point?)

Truck looks good. If u were to do over would u cut windshield completely out since u cut most of it any ways or would be more hastle to reattach compared to masking.Thx

No. This technique only works with yellow. Its impossible to change the colour.

Yes, otherwise paint sticks and leaves traces.
Can i ask what you used to do the detailing at 6:30 in video, is that a sharpie pen or pencil?
A cheap Bic Mechanical Pencil, I perfer the 0,7 mm.

I see that you painted over the salt did you sand till most of it was gone?
It depends of the quantity of salt you put, I like to put a little too much salt and leave some between the paint layers … it adds texture. If you sand down all the salt your paint will be flat … it coold be cool too, it just depends of the project. The best is to try on an old body or plastic bits you have left.
Did you do something to break the surface tension of the water?
If you mean around 4:00 before applying the salt … no.
With the spray I have various sizes of drops. I don't want water allover the surface, neither too regular.

About that rust, is it harmful as the natural rust?
Thank you! That rust is made with real steel power and acid is used to activate it so you have to take precautions. Once it's done and dry you can protect it with varnish to avoid contamination. With pigment and salt you can have very realistic results too, takes a little more time and skills too ;-)

Thank you! The cutting wheel is not from Dremmel, it came in an accessoiries kit from a cheap brand, I don't remind the name.

I made the windhield frame out of a steel sheet.
It would’ve been impressive if you were able to get the same results painting the RC body correctly from the inside...

Yes a simple graphite pencil. You can erase it if you make a mistake 👍

Of course, salt technique can be used on plastic or diecast models too !
