Taking such a portable system on the go everywhere and coming home and hooking it up to your tv and connecting my 8bit do and continuing on the big screen sounds amazing to me.
I recently saw a meme that said “why did Nintendo ever drop the perfect design of Gameboy SP?! They should’ve just built upon it!” Anbernic must’ve saw that meme and did exactly that lol
My smoke detector woke me up at 2:50AM PST today. I took it as a sign to buy one lol. To be fair I was already most likely going to buy one. For future readers it went on sale at 3AM PST.
I've been really uncertain on this one, but this review sold me on it. Was concerned about how it'd control for analog stick games, but it sounds like it'll hold up pretty well.
If you want to play analog stick games, you’d be better off waiting for the Miyoo mini flip. If you need a console now, you’d be better off paying 200 for a retroid pro 4 and getting GameCube/Ps2 support
Great review, very well spoken and pretty much convinced me it’s a great device. But let’s talk about that opening. Absolutely brilliant. Instant subscribe
The question is; does anyone remember what the dome switches felt like on a brand-new GBA SP? The RG35XXSP may just need some time to break in. I know my GBA SP dome switches are at least 19 years old and well broken in, but I honestly can't remember what they felt like new out of the box.
I mean, the buttons feeling cheap kinda makes sense. It's device designed by a small, Chinese company, which pumps out 5-10 new models every year. So they're gonna be using the cheapest and easiest components to get in bulk. Nintendo is a multi-billion dollar company, which spent years designing the SP.
@@trynaskate7894 - Right? RGC doesn't just review, he makes a whole site for setting up each device with the best possible firmware. Without him, my Anbernic devices would be underperforming and lost to corruption right now. lol

Worth it for US buyers, not worth for EU buyers. In EU the device itself costs 69€ with tax, shipping is 15€ on top, so its 84€ shipped. That's too expensive for me, even for nostalgia purposes. Was planning on ordering one if it was under 70€ shipped, probably gonna wait for a sale later down the line, or for a Miyoo Flip - it can't come soon enough.
Hi there! Wonderfully informative, thank you :) quick question if you've the time. What OS('s) would you recommend outside of the stock OS? Additionally, what are the downsides to not having the latest OS version installed (if any)? I'm not super techy and haven't the youth or time for digital maintenance if I may admit, merely wondering how well this device would fair if purchased, loaded with custom OS and then just sorta, well, used without future updates. I'm pretty new to all this, apologies if this is a silly question, common knowledge or sheer blashpemy. Sincerely appreciate any/all insight from the community!
I guess that if you are coming from a loving device that holds a special place in the heart, then the potential to want something like this to bring nostalgia alive like no other is likely going to be high. It does seem that in this case, the dream is matched by the delivery. So I see the appeal. But for me, it's limitations based upon the design of the past, means that it does lack some functionality that I would be more used to in 2024. It's a pass for me. However, we cannot ignore the open piracy aspect that is being openly condoned and promoted.
How do those boots taste? Sailing the digital seas wouldn't be needed if things weren't priced insanely high (old pokemon games go for HUNDREDS online.)

Hi there! I am getting into handheld emulation and was wondering if this is the best bang for your buck under 100 dollars? I am tempted and I am thinking of buying one. Thanks.
The HDMI out is interesting. My raspberry pi has been flakey might just get one of these and replace that setup with this and have the added bonus of portability
Thanks for talking about Wave Race! I've been looking for the perfect device to play n64 on the go for a long time. It seems this one lacks a bit of power to do so. Maybe next time.
I'll be putting the dpad on this to the test in Pokemon Emerald, see if it does well with the bicycle puzzles Getting tight control and high accuracy when you have 1 frame to turn is a great test!
This might sound ghetto as heck, but I’ve seen a lot of review videos where people were talking about wanting to do a aluminum foil hack or mod inside the unit between the battery and the CPU could simply just take some aluminum foil and place it on the inside?
These look awesome. I've purchased mine with the ex shipping, hopefully I can see it sooner than later. By chance is there a list of games they ask that you use for your review? I notice similar game choices from each of the videos. Street fighter 3, zelda minish cap, metal slug, etc.
I bought Anbernic RG35XX SP. Is it possible to have several systems installed on different memory cards and then change the cards with the systems, e.g. Stock OS/muOS/Knulli/MinUI/GarlicOS?
I thought similarly, I took the bait on the Sega inspired device (ARC) and was very pleasantly surprised by the build quality. Very tempted on this SP as well...
Great hardware for the price, but the buttons straight up suck from what I've seen. Classic Anbernic, same stuff with the OG RG35XX's dpad. I find it baffling, it wouldn't cost them any more to just make softer buttons that feel closer to original hardware and thus make it more attractive to most people.
I do like the look of this, but the crappy speaker and the screen needs to be at least 4" imo, an edge to edge 5" AMOLED would be even better, the screen is not a deal breaker, but the crappy 1watt mono speaker is. An SPXL with dual 3watt stereo speakers and a 5" display would be perfect.
I’m super concerned about the D pad I have the orginal rg35xx which I’ve enjoyed many games on but fighting games and platformers are a pain in the ass because of the d pad going up and down when pressing on the left and right and vice versa.
Just got my 35XXSP, has anyone figured out how to remove various system bezels with stock firmware 240511? Every time I change it in RA and go back to a game the system themed bezels return. I prefer full screen aspect ratio with no boarders. The only one I would consider keeping is the GBA SP bottom bezel.
For the battery life, it would have been nice to test this on a GBA game instead seeing this device has been modelled after a GBA SP. There are more optimal devices for PS1 with analog sticks and more that would provide a better experience. I guess what I'm saying is that the main use for this purchase will be GBA games and so I don't think this battery test was fair.
