Once there, convicts often came up with imaginative and, sometimes desperate, ways to try and escape the harsh conditions of the penal colonies.

@Herr Spiegel a huge portion of the people living in America are descended from the same type of undesirables that Britain sent to Australia.
You could be sentenced to transportation for literally anything back then. Even something as petty as stealing bread. Or being unable to pay a small debt. One of my male ancestors was sent from a debtors prison in Britain, sentenced to transportation to the Americas, and sold into indentured servitude.

The dude who skinned and wore the kangaroo skin 😂 makes me think of the movie "Kung Pow: Enter the Fist" where Betty and his gang are in the brush looking for Master Tang and Tang sings that song:
♪♪ chicken go cluck, cluck, cow go moo!
Piggy go oink, oink, how bout you? Gotta be an animal just like you!♪♪"
And then Betty's henchman does that super cheap bird call "ca' ka! Ca'ka!" And then Betty "supplements" it by saying
"I'M JUST A LITTLE BIRDY TOOOO!!!" 😆 That's the dude in the kangaroo skin lol
"OY MATE! I'M JUST A LIL ROO TOO, I AM!"
And the the guard fires POW! 💥 and the other guard starts giving him his one hunnit fitty lashes while listening to " Baby Got Back".
"Beware of the song about big butts... He beats you up when he plays it!!!"
