    I worked in several prisons in the US in the 90's and by far the most used and effective weapon I seen used was a "lock in a sock" followed closedly by the handle of a mop bucket (the part used to force the excess water from the wet mop).

    • @commanderbeepo8066
      @commanderbeepo8066 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Those mop strainers can do some serious damage too. So much less conspicuous then the many a shivs I made

      Putting a lock in the sock is actually pretty amateur. You’re suppose to tie the sock around the u loop. If the lock is actually in the sock then you’re more likely to damage the threads

    • @rosskennedy1960
      @rosskennedy1960 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Actually, if you tie the sock in the "U" loop, the lock will open and come untied.
      Most "lock in sock" used a doubled sock and was very effective

    • @rosskennedy1960
      @rosskennedy1960 22 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @buyerenogurlfwendo2106 not actually true. Tying lock to sock could cause lock to open and you lose your lock.
      Most convicts used a doubled sock with lock inside

    An inmate in my country made a smart escape. He take a soap and shaped it to a small gun using a rock and he painted using Black Shoe Kiwi (you know the thing they put on shoes to make it more shinny) and he went to the main gate. He told the guard he was just looking around until he grabbed the guard from back and pointed the soap shaped gun at the guard's stomach. The guard saw it and think it was a real gun. He force the guard to open the gate and got away easily .

    I remember a story my grandfather told me, when a riot broke out, some inmates had thrown some alcohol, and then a prisoner had a rubber band crossbow, with a alcohol soaked cloth tip, with a bamboo stick.
    They lit up the tip, and fired the improvised crossbow.
    My grandfather managed to get out unscaved, but his comrade had gotten doused, and was lit ablaze.

    In the Philippines, the inmates of New Bilibid prison has handmade knives to high caliber weapons. Each prison inspection/raid always yield pistols to automatic weapons. Honestly i'm amazed that prison riots aren't that common with this kind of arsenals. Though i would like to point out that most of the drug lord or high profile criminals are kept here. So there was a lot of bribery and corruption. Heck some of the inmates cell had air-conditioning, dance pole for when they brought in hookers, bar, and other amenities you wouldn't usually find in a third world prison.

    Zip guns aren't just a prison weapon. My grandfather used zip guns in the 50s he used a slam shotgun version were you can either slam it against a wall or push it really hard with your hands so it goes off. And they also used a pen gun variant of the zip gun so it could be easily hidden in his pockets. My dad told me about this after my grandfather had passed away because i was just barely getting into lowriders and oldies and stuff like that and he was into that type of stuff in highschool aswell

    I'm from Argentina, inmates in countries like this make short spears, harpoons, maces and other weapons superior to the basic shivs, called "facas" here, and the tootbrushes with razors, called "feites" here. There's plenty of materials and lack of control to make weapons, also the conditions are infra-human compared to the luxurious and highly regulated prisons in the US and Europe.

      @Chris Clifford the inmate collected a large number of cups and had them stacked up. He slowly heated the stack up and used wet newspaper to squeeze it into a solid rod. Then he used the concrete floor to file the tip to a sharp point. When he was done it was stiffer than a wooden broom handle and almost as tuff as steel. You could have easily killed someone with it. As a former CO in Ryker's island, I can approve of this video. Alot of people don't give respect to an inmate's ingenuity. I've seen them use plug outlets to start fires to smoke cigarettes, found very crude weapons made by inmates that consisted of everything from vinyl tile to cigarette butts that were burned and pressed into blades (heated fiberglass from the filters melt and harden to a sharp edge) and even to a more innocent degree making tuna fish and Doritos chips into chicken burritos. They may be criminals but you need to give it to them, they can surprise you with their creativity. I actually tried the chicken burrito an inmate offered me to try after showing me how they make it. I was shocked that they altered the taste to actually make it taste like chicken.
