What REALLY Happened To The Entity?

  • Possession is a relatively common topic on this channel and show and that’s probably because it’s something that has been recorded and pushed as factual by the people claiming to be possessed or investigators for a long time. It generally falls under the scope of what he said/she said, with most of the presented evidence as fact being very up for interpretation. The Entity is an entertaining and original movie that pushed some boundaries, but how close is it to the purported true events that happened to Doris Bither? Keep your eyes and ears open for the signs of a vengeful spirit as we find out what REALLY happened to The Entity.

So excited to see you cover this somewhat overlooked gem! I'm currently working on a kind of deep dive into the case and the movie for my little channel. There were some great little details here that I hadn't uncovered! Thank you!

This is still one of the scariest movies ever, to me. I've done some research into the real life case, out of curiosity, & discovered that there's actually very little known about Doris Bither, herself. In fact, she remains largely a mystery. I imagine, what little we do know about her, came from her oldest son, & Barry Taff, & his colleagues. It can't even be 100% confirmed what year she died. Not to mention, the infamous photo shown in this video, of her sitting on her bed, is the only known photo of her, & you can't see her face. Though, this is the first i've heard of Doris's neighbors corroborrating hearing & seeing things happen, in the house. I'd love to know more info about that. Point being, there's still so many unanswered questions, concerning this case.

Great video! I've always thought this movie was just as frightening as "The Exorcist." I first watched it as a twenty-something in the 80s on premium cable TV and the intimacy of the small screen in my bedroom gave me a greater sense of invasion of my personal space. When it was over I heaved a sigh of relief, until I saw the credits come up at the end...
"The attacks, though decreased in frequency and intensity, continue."
and it made me gasp and shudder and do a quick look over my shoulder!

I don't know how The Entity doesn't get more recognition. It's both a truly scary ghost story and a chilling metaphorical portrait of domestic abuse. This should be a classic, but it got trahsed by critics (talk about real review bombing). Great acting and practical effects, and an awesome score!!! Thanks for covering it, it really needed a truthometer treatment to understand the "inspired by true story" label...

When I watched this movie as a child, I didn't know or understand what the entity was actually doing to Carla. I just thought it was hurting her. Everything about the film scared me: the music, the attack scenes. But when I got older and finally understood what was truly happening to Carla, it made it even more terrifying.

I own this on Scream Factory collectors edition bluray and really found it a little weird at first but it began to come together and really was well directed and gripping. I've seen scarier horror films but I love the dialogue and performances, especially seeing really funny outdated cultural norms such as a room full of doctors and surgeons smoking profusely while having a meeting. Single motherhood definitely wasn't the norm then so was interesting to see for the time. That doctor psychologist dude is also in Timecop and i enjoyed his dedicated performance. Recommended for fans of 80s horror thrillers.
