All these historical facts were not written in our history books in school . Pupils in school learn mostly about history of West Malaysia. This made locals like me lack of knowledge about our own historical stories. Education ministry never put an effort to let pupils to learn about East Malaysia 's history. Mostly for locals, every building that you have shown here are just an old building without knowing it's history...Thanks Nick to educate the locals about these historical facts that we don't even know, as never learned in school.
@@shukriramlee go and check your text book... which history text books from primary school till form 6 got mention what did Nick mention here in this video? All we learnt was Sarawak was ruled by Brooke 's family.
Interesting thing about Nick is that he gives an accurate information about the history of a places from authentic sources. In conclusion, Nick is a thorough person & produced an interesting video full of accurate historical site stories.A foreigner who appreciates the beauty treasure & culture of Sarawak.
Sir James Brooke, Rajah of Sarawak KCB (29 April 1803 - 11 June 1868), was a British soldier and adventurer who founded the Raj of Sarawak in Borneo. He ruled as the first White Rajah of Sarawak from 1841 until his death in 1868. Sir Charles Vyner de Windt Brooke (b. Sept. 26, 1874, London-d. May 9, 1963, London) was the third and last “white raja” (1917-46). He joined the Sarawak administration in 1897. After World War I, a boom in rubber and oil drew Sarawak further into the world economy, and for that and other reasons the state embarked on gradual modernization of its institutions. Public services were developed, a Sarawak penal code modeled on that of British India was introduced in 1924, and there was some extension of educational opportunity. Brooke was knighted in 1927. In September 1941, on the centenary of Brooke rule, the third raja proclaimed a constitution designed to establish self-government for Sarawak, but shortly afterward the state fell to the Japanese. When World War II was over, Vyner Brooke decided that Sarawak should be ceded to Great Britain, and, after a bitter family feud, he formally terminated Brooke rule on July 1, 1946.
Thanks Nick for this awesome video, some of the facts that you mentioned, I didn't even know before this, very educational even for me a Sarawakian, brings back a lot of memories of my school days..I used to hang out near the museum area and a place called "Summer House" near my school St Teresa. They served the best Ang Tau Peng.
Amazing. This video knowledgeable and interesting. Sarawak has a lot of historical places. In further future, Sarawak will become developed city. Lot places to be explored but most of the places must have own transport to go visiting. For example, Kampung Budaya, Rumah Panjang Mongkos Serian, Tasik Biru Bau, Siniawan and others all have own historical.😊
I suggest you go visit Kampung Asum in Ulu Padawan where there are some interesting waterfalls, the history of the village and the journey there that you might not have expected. One of the very interesting areas in Ulu Padawan. You can also go to the next village such as Kampung Sapit and Kampung Abang. Many places and unique nature are there.
Just found your videos mate. Great videos. Beautiful family.....you should set up a small tour bringing the Netherland people to sarawak. You are great tour guide

G’day Nick.. Thankyou very much for making a video History of place in Kuching..You know more about my countries of Sarawak than myself.. Very Interesting Nick..Well Done ☺️🖐👍👍
This is such a nice change from the 'top 10 things to do in X!' made by TH-camrs who have spent one weekend (or never even visited) in that area and stole the list of TripAdvisor. Nice one!
Time for Sarawak government to revisit the historical places and history of Sarawak to put them in proper perspective and reintroduce to primary school to learn the Story of Sarawak before it is lost. The Sarawak story should be perpetuated before it is lost and forgotten.
I can imagine! It seems like they're always renovating. Or perhaps they prefer to direct foot traffic to the other entrances. I don't quite know the details..
Hi, Nick... another fact, the park that you run and stand on beside Sarawak Club (Amphitheatre) plus Civic Centre used to be Sarawak Club Golf Course until it was taken over by the Sarawak government in the 80's...
Love the video - I was hoping you might know how Kuching got its name - There appears to be no definitive answer. Some say it come from a Chinese word meaning 'port' Some say it is named after cats (If so, then why ?) - Hope to bump into you some day.
All I know is that there are multiple stories about how Kuching got it's name. One of the stories (probably not true) is that when James Brooke arrived at this village he pointed at it and asked what the name was. His Malay friend thought he pointed at a cat so he said "Kuching" which means Cat in the local language. I kind of like this story, but it's probably not the real story - haha!
Kuching is definitely one of the best city to live in the world. But Pls don't tell everyone bout the city.. we luv to be discreet & live our life in peace
My wife & I got taken to the Sarawak Club by a friend & her husband for dinner. But we had to eat in the outside part cause I had sandals and shorts on. But it’s ok if the women have that on they can go inside???? Pretty sexist!!!! 😂 the friend said the woman could come in naked & it would be OK. Lol 😆

Don't talk nonsense. I've learnt about Sabah and Sarawak in text book more than I know about my state Johor.

Why the Sarawak Museum was left out in your video?
I focussed more on less known locations in this video and I have done videos about the museum before. 😯
Awesome video and introduction but the music is too loud .
