The BBC released a 2 part interview with Maxwell Smart, the boy in the woods, who is 93 years old (in 2024). Check the podcast "Lives less Ordinary" under the name "The boy who hid in the woods from the Nazis". It is truly remarkable to hear him speak and tell the story himself.
I find very interesting that the synopsis only says «Nazi persecution in Eastern Europe». Let's be clear and honest. That story takes place in Buczacz, Ukraine. Is the Canadian production team too shy to tell things like it is : Ukrainians helped Nazis exterminate Jews. They even had the very infamous Galicia Brigade - 14th division of the Waffen SS that was extremely effective at that, to the point the high ranking SS were very impressed... Canadian senators and prime minister Justin Trudeau even applauded such Ukrainian Nazi last year in the Canadian parliament...

I saw Max’ story of his harrowing war experiences as a documentary on CBC. It’s absolutely heart wrenching to see what Humanity is capable of doing to itself. The Canadian actor, Saul Rubinek’s parents also had a very heart wrenching and harrowing story of survival during the war. If they had died, Saul would never have existed. His parents gave a first hand account of their ordeal and of the Polish family that saved them in 1995 at the 50th anniversary of the end of the war.
For accuracy: "Smart knew he would be shot if he ran, so he removed his Star of David armband and walked away until he reached a bridge, where he saw a German officer walking towards him." I was so ready for this to be a horror movie and then I realized it was an actual real life horror movie for someone. They got me. This looks amazing.
