The problem I have with Bahamut in general, not just this mini, is that no matter how big they make him he will still look like a normal silver dragon to me, he lacks unique features that he and only he has. Tiamat is obviously very distinct and you immediately know when you're looking at her or one of her avatars, but this just doesn't do it for me. Sweet mini, the quality seems to be consistently high, I just don't see the appeal.
Couldn't agree more. I was was pretty darn excited to see the new look for him when they announced he was getting a redesign. Kinda disappointed that they didn't really DO anything with him. Personally, I would've designed Bahamut to be a platinum-colored chimera of all the primary metallic dragons. Like, the head of a silver, the whiskers of a gold, the wings of a bronze and so on. It'd be a more harmonious mirror to Tiamat's look.
Agreed, I feel like as others said he should have aspects of all the other Metallics, and they should really double down on the celestial side of him, give him a halo effect, or celestial flames in translucent plastic coming off of him. Hell, make parts of him translucent or something. Something that makes you go "Damn, that's the radiant dragon himself." the same way you look at Tiamat and go whoa...
I’m thrilled that WizKids actually made a gargantuan Bahamut. I plan on buying this to show WizKids that labors of love like their enormous dragons these last few years are appreciated and we want more of it. I’m a little disappointed in the pose. It doesn’t strike me as the glorious embodiment of justice and courage. It would be interesting to know what other poses WizKids considered and rejected, and why.
Thanks for posting about the tongue. Not too conident about pulling on things in case it breaks and wasn't sure how the breath effect was supposed to go in. With their gold dragon they had a whole separate head for the fire, so I was worried something was missing.
I just got my limited edition Bahamut in, and I absolutely love the added blue to the flame, and his human form uses blue magic instead of yellow, which is also in my opinion really cool
This is a very cool mini, and I have one arriving soon, but it is not without several flaws, as many have pointed out. The pose is less than impressive, and I'm guessing that has to do with keeping box dimensions and shipping costs down, but with wings being removable and whatnot, I would have preferred something more intimidating than a kneeling Bahamut. I do agree it's hard to nail down the platinum colouring versus silver, but in a way that's kind of a bonus as you are also getting a second gargantuan ancient silver dragon for the price of one. My second nitpick is not with the dragon mini itself but with the Fizban depiction. I'm also a Dragonlance fan since the original novels from the '80s, and hate the new 5e depiction of the character versus the original art. I just can't stand how WoTC feels a need to reimagine everything these days to accommodate modern sensibilities. The old art was great (he basically looked a lot like Gandalf) and I think the new mini is total revisionist crap. Lastly, Theo, you forgot to mention that there is a third version of the Platinum Dragon in mini form that harkens back to the DDM days and the War of the Dragon Queen minis set, which contained a Tiamat also. Wizkids also has an online exclusive version of this new Bahamut with a different coloured breath weapon and Fizban, but it is now sold out.
I am a little disappointed by the size of Bahamut, especially for the price I think that overall the pose may be the main reason he does not come off as grand or imposing as the other "Gargantuan"- line minis. But I do think overall it's a cool mini. I will definitely be grabbing this one
“Available this week” ha. Good one, I preordered this when it first dropped, was told by the end of August, then by the End of Q3, and when that came and went, I emailed and was told “hopefully by the end of Q4” I’ll believe it when it when I see it lol
They also don’t all seem to be released all at once. I believe some folks got theirs weeks ago. Actual release dates don’t seem to be a thing for a lot of these minis. It’s just whenever the ships arrive and they get through customs.
Same here. Ordered the online exclusive with the healing breath right after it was open to preorder. They have moved the release back so many times lol. Still hasn't even shipped yet.

Mine just arrived yesterday (regular version) from 401 Games in Canada. Looks like they got their stock on the Oct 16 date that Wizkids put out and immediately started shipping them out. Top marks for them. Gotta say despite my misgivings about the pose, I fell in love with it immediately. Also, contrary to what I thought, the wings are actually attached. My only downvote at this point is that the tongue feels impossible to remove unless I use a tool of some kind and risk scratching the paint. However, I don't really plan to use the breath weapon effect, so it's very minor quibble.
As a DragonLance nerd, I really want this Paladine/Fizban mini. I just can't bring myself to spend that much, when I have other things I should be getting.
I don't see my self having much use for the "mini" since like the regular metallic dragon Bahamut is a good aligned dragon meaning that only a evil party will be likely to face him in battle. For the same reason I skipped all metallic dragons since I don't see many situations in which a party fights them
Mine will be female. I have the healing breath version. Pre-ordered. I love how chunky and big she is! Yes ik in dnd hes male. But doesn't mean i can't have them female.

I wish that Wizkids would produce ancient versions of the green, blue, and black dragons.
I'm hoping we'll see those one day! I know these giant minis are tough to produce (and ship), but hope springs eternal!

@@Lurklen Lots of biblical angels had halos of fire, that'd be pretty fitting for a dragon with a divinity motif.

There isn't really any great art of Sardior. If we ever get any I feel like a gargantuan mini is inevitable.

Absolutely. Whenever I run adventures twice, I often gender swap several characters which makes always makes for interesting new dynamics.
