Gil-Galad is nerfed far worse than Elendil. Not because of the lost strike but because of the lost shield and blood and glory spec rule. It feels like a joke, I mean he even wears a shield in the movie. A real shame, now Elrond is an autopick over Gil-Galad.
true, gilgalad is so bad right now,i thought maybe in this edition i will be able to play him but unfortunetly,elrond/glorfindel is much better than him and they have access to horse and 3fates
It’s tragic that he has a shield in bts clips of the movie and a horse in the show, but GW doesn’t give him either. Also no Blood and Glory is a huge blow.
In my opinion, it’s good to see hobbit armies nerfed a bit. I always thought they were way more powerful than the normal LOTR armies and usually the hobbit characters were less points
As an Azog's Hunters main, I actually really dig the changes to hunter orcs. My preferred build so far is going for a massive block of chargers with another block of archers lead by Narzug (who can't be mounted anyway) to just rain down morgul arrows at enemy heroes. They are orc bows, but I ain't even mad. 50% Morgul Arrows is aight even at less good shooting. And Hunter Orc captains going up to 4 attacks on the charge against infantry? Nutty. Me gusta. I like that the glass canon got even glassier but more canony as well
The Balrog getting a cheeky buff with 8” movement has been a game changer outpacing most of the game (minus cav) with the 8” whip just means he’s fighting all the time. Also maybe a different video but if we are talking LL the depths of moria got a big buff the drums of the deep being a static rule rather then being tied to your drums is so good.
Every time I open YT I'm hoping for a new Conquest Creations video! Always great videos that makes me more extided to paint and play 😍 I am super excited for the new edition and I really like the narrative style of the new army lists!
I'm fine with lots of Hobbit profiles being nerfed. A decent number seemed to be super pushed compared LOTR profiles and it just felt like "hey even though the movies are trash, here's more expensive ($ wise) armies with better point to stat ratios to replace your old stuff"
Two I would definitely add to the massive nerf list. Shagrat- he basically dropped 2 defence and lost the cav charge knock down. And simply gained a niche ability around carrying objectives. Celeborn: he is now unarmed and lost 3 defence. For buffed units. All of the wizards except evil Saruman as they all got an extra attack. Along with the Isengard berserkers and all trolls with how monsters work. (The same could be said about ents).
Personally, I don’t see Celeborn to be a monumental nerf at this stage - he just fits a very different niche. Yes he lost 2 attacks and 3 defence (and his Lord of the West as well as being unarmed), so he is clearly no longer a fighter. Instead however he now has the awesome utility of his +1 to wound bubble (which I’d suggest more than makes up for his lack or personal hitting power) and also, crucially, he now also gets a free point of will per turn to constantly throw out spells alongside Galadriel. He now essentially plays even more into Lothlorien’s core identity which is to grind out opponents while having a lot of built in redundancy (Decent numbers, high Fv and Courage, superior shooting (elf bows, elven cloaks and blinding light) and superior magic (two casters and resistant to magic). My greatest hope for Lothlorien in the final book however is for a fully kitted version of this new Celeborn (and maybe Galadriels offensive profile) to form the basis of a list which includes Guard of the Galadhrim Court, Knights, Sentinels and Haldirs brothers and represents the Assault of Lothlorien. That would be the perfect list in my opinion :)
One more thing I wanted to note - upgrading those Lorien warriors in Celeborn’s warband so they can re-roll 1’s when making strikes is actually a viable strategy now too. Because re-rolls with 1s is a rule that benefits more if you have a higher initial chance to wound, there is a world where two-handing with your upgraded Lorien Guard who are within 3” of Celeborn gives them +2 to wound and re-rolling 1s which could be especially devastating against enemies D5 or below. Back his warband up with a banner and you’ve potentially got the most potent infantry block in the game (outside of uruk berserkers backed by pikes and a banner I suppose). Just a cool little addition worth considering :)
Legolas feels sooo good without feeling overtuned. Crebain are his bane as I found this past weekend, but when he's free to shoot he's quite deadly, but if you're having a bad dice day those 3 Fate go away fast, and at 2 wounds and D5, he can be sort of glass-cannony (But is quite a cannon lol)
Smaug should be having the dominant 20 to clarify on how many times he outnumbers the opponent on each objective. He sure has the objective no matter what, but does he has it with x1, X2 or x3 more models than the opponent (because each one is different vps for some scenarios). That might be the reason he got both the number and the special rule Say if the opponent has more than 20 models on the objective, Smaug will still get it, but only on the lowest vp version of it
It's the same with the Trolls. It's still 3 points per objective most of the time as you are "alone" on it. Anyway, Smaug is not really meant to be play or be fun to play with or against. Either you can't do shit because of the terrain on the table, or your opponents just lose horribly whitout really playing
If Smaug is within range of an objective marker, the enemy counts as having no models in range of the objective marker, so with the current scenarios, Dominant does nothing for him in scenarios with objective markers. However, Dominant matters in scenarios where you don't use objective markers but still score based on positioning, like Reconnoiter and Fog of War.
I've been playing a Return of the king list and love the changes. The 8" move for the king of the dead and warriors is massive. And the extra attack, FV, and wound make the king a pretty great hero
Elendil on horse was some of my favourite conversions so it's a shame to no longer see him mounted again, but his troops sure got a buff. They have closed the FV gap with elves and kept S4. They also get S5 captains and longbows. Eomer got a mad buff with +1 fight, Firefoot, exploding 6's and infantry that look three dimensional. Getting challenged by Theodred is now scary. All Rohan infantry maintained their knowledge of how to use spear to support after the battle of Isen, but lost several heroes and Helmingas. Damrod got swoll, and warriors of MT got a FV that corresponds with their armour. Fountain court and citadel guard got a nerf IMO. Celeborn forgot how to wear armour or fight, but gained a baked in staff of power. Early days but I Rekon Eomer has to be my favourite buff, Elves got the biggest nerf on the basis men and berserkers can now fight at their standard.
I feel like Corsairs got hit extremely hard this edition. You mentioned Grimhammers for their thrown weapons, and that was Corsairs whole gimmick. And they got hit several other ways as well. Also the Goblin Scribe looks useless on paper to me.Needing to keep a vulnerable model that can't move on its own close to the King to have any effect at all seems brutal.
Corsairs also going up a point is rough for them. I reckon I will wait to give my full judgement on them for the Armies of Middle Earth book. Hopefully Dalamyr and Delgamar can give them huge buffs and a hectic army bonus
Cirdan ain't what he used to be but at least he's decent at 75pts to the point that I'd consider taking him over a captain or something as a Fortitude H. Call Winds got seriously buffed and can push stuff at a much more reliable distance along with the ability to push stuff out of combat while knocking them prone. Blessing of the Valar is noice with big heroes (especially those with 1 Fate like Earnur) and Enchanted Blades is as decent as ever. Fog of Disarray is an absolute waste of a slot and Aura of Dismay got overnerfed beyond any sense of proportion. Cirdan's journey: from desk lamp to desk fan
Yeah it's nice that they've tidied up the ridiculousness of making everyone and their mother a "Minor Hero" mostly because of "muh balance". Only the kind of dudes truly deserving of "Minor" status seem to be in that category now.
IMO, goblin town has been hit the most as a faction - goblins went up 1 point, same cost as Moria goblin but no armour, no bows and no shields for same cost - goblin king points increase even though he got worse to elf shooting - removal of special strikes means goblins are no longer Str4 - no more Mercs, and no more goblin scribe reinforcements, this means your entire army is move 5” with no cav, no shooting, no magic and you just lost your best gimmick to actually get into the backfield. - grinnah lost a point of might and lost strike - Gollum no longer halves fight if another model is in the fight like the goblin king.
Smaugs dominat(20) can still be useful despite him always controlling the objective in the situation that an enemy model also has the rule to always control the objective because in this case they cancel each other and count their models again. Although i only found an upgrade from "the three trolls" with this rule there might be coming out more in the next expansion book.
Smaug ruel overrides any other ruels that do the same. It is for Szenarios were there aren't any objektiv markers but you still have to count models, like reconnoider
The other thing that I have now realised about it is that you will get points for having three times as many models as your opponent for hold ground. When the matched play guide comes out I'm guessing we will see more uses for it
While Ugluk looks great in his own legion I think he got a pretty big nerf in Lurtz's Scouts. Maybe if Get a Fire Going was built into his profile instead it would be better but he can't use a rule that he is paying for in that list.
I would argue that Grimhammers got a small Buff themself, with a spear behind and in Banner range of Thror the two-handed is really good (just remember that +1 to wound is part of two-handed). They also go accient enemys (orc) and didn't got more expensiv as a lot of other models (like warriors of Erebor) You can just not spam them anymore, what is annoing when building list.
That’s cool about Smaug and objectives. However, isn’t he still bad at holding objectives overall because he can only hold one (at a time)? I guess if two objectives are close together, maybe two. Maybe he could have had a rule where he can ‘drop gold hoard’ that holds an objective when he’s not there, leaving him free to go claim another one. The good can be ‘stolen’ if the enemy models come afterwards and claim the objective. Would be good if they made his points a bit flexible like the trolls so you can take him more often.
He can't auto hit at all. It still needs to roll to-hit, and now it doesn't ignore penalties (other than the move-and-shoot penalty when he's on foot).
He is actually one of the profiles I am most excited to use. I just need to paint up a few more Lothlorien warriors and I'll have the army ready to play
Putting a hunter orc on a warg seems like a mlre obvious choice. Not sure that the glass cannons needed to loose more of their "cannon" . Hlw does the throwing weapons restriction affect corsairs?
There is one big thing I don't like in this new version, there is way too many rules activating on 1s or 6s. These rules are useless because only relying or luck, you can't make plans on that. And because most of the time, profiles pay that rules, it would be better not having it.
Biggest nerf I'm sad about is probably shagrat, I can see why he lost the shield of CU but not clear why he's then gone up in points. I'm also interested to see how shelob works out. I'd hoped she'd go to courage 5+, but instead they've played around with how heroics work with her.
I reckon shelob is better than she was before, the buffs to monsters and gaining Dominant is really helpful. She has courage 6+ and 6 will so the survival instinct almost never comes up. Shagrat is not as scary as last edition but to be fair last edition he was very undercoated. He lost the knock down and the defence for a fight and courage boost as well as the ability to deal 2 wounds. He isn't as good but it still decent
A slight correction, Legolas's single shot can ONLY target a model in combat with a friendly model involved - this is different to the old edition. At 11:20, you say "regardless of if it's combat or not" which is not quite correct. A slight nerf on this particular rule, but Leggy has gained overall.
It also doesn't auto hit as was said in the video, but it didn't do that before either. In fact, it doesn't even ignore to-hit penalties like before (except for the move-and-shoot penalty if he's on foot).
I reckon he is definitely going to see a lot of play this edition. Especially with Pippin mounted on him. He can finally hit really hard and is now better at casting than a lot of the other wizards!
@@BrickWann WK is a lame of a caster now, since he doesn't reroll anymore, the nerf to several of his powers, losing Sap Will and the loss of Channeling, so what would you take him? As a fighter? He is WAY worse than Gwaihir as a flying monster with his Fight 6, which makes him almost unable to face top Good heroes, and pretty more expensive. Not to mention that if je gets knocked prone he loses the fell beast. So what do you feel he is good at, now?
@@EricvonGuttemberg he's still a good caster and fighter lol. Yeah, he's lost the re-roll, but he can still reliably transfix and compel. And he's a good fighter too. If you think "he's worse than Gwahir" means he's a bad fighter... Lol, you're just being silly. They're different models in different lists. WK is still good and this will be reflected by the fact that he will still feature in successful competitive lists.
I definitely still highly rate the Witch King. He has space in a lot of army lists and is able to put out a lot of damage. His casting has been nerfed down to a reasonable level whereas last edition it was vastly to powerful. Fight 6 with Transfix and strike with the buffs to monsters makes him on fellbeast quite scary.
I can't agree with Elendil being nerfed. His role on the field is now a bit clearer: He is there to beat up other heroes. The free heroic combat is so that Elendil is harder to slow down with chaff. Gil-Galad lost Strike, while Elendil still has it. That makes Elendil a bit better against the high fight value targets in the short term (3+ roll to reach Fight 10). Previously Elendil was good at killing armies. Now he buys his points back by dueling. In any case, heroes losing mounts and horses in general being more expensive is likely a good change overall.
I feel like Guards of the Fountain Court are now in a state, where there is no good situation to take them. Citadel guards are now superior in every way. Is there any situation where Fountain Court Guards are now worth using?
Would have liked a rule like this: Guardian of the White City “When within 6” of the Army General, a Fountain Court Guard my re-roll a single die in the duel roll.” Puts a model like Denethor in a spot to: 1. Get stuck in 2. Decide if taking a banner is worth it, which might lead to give up some VPs early If not that, at least let them shield with their spear. Some thing to represent them being elite and tough to kill. They now have D6… when regular troops will mainly be D7 with Shieldwall.
@@Dirk_Daring Yes, they are now normal soldiers, but more expensive. So sad about this, they are, in my opinion, one of the cooler designs visually, but not worth taking at all.
@@NapoleonicWargaming You here as well? Nice! Also, I'm still hoping to get a special rule about their Helmets, since they were described as ancient heirlooms made of mithril!
Well compagnies needs new suff or otherwise People will stop playing or buying. Sooo... it is not personal but it's how People are. Like, everybody in my community bought the new beginner box. But they did not want to buy more modeles for there old army. Now because of this realese related to the movie new People joined my community. We were 18 to now 24 players. If I need to spend 50$ on a rule book but it brings 4 new player I'm happy for it.
This edition is unplayable for me so far. I literally can't play with my models. There is no way to field Lurtz with Uruk Hai warriors, easterlings don't exist yet, Lorien got hit so hard and you can't combine elven kingdoms, which was the basis of my army of good. The army building doesn't exist and it's infuriating to even look at the available faction rosters.
That is why in the previous edition I went purist in my factions I played, because I knew this day would come. Also that is the same reason why I lost one of my army.... my khand army RIP 😂😂😂

It also doesn't auto hit as was said in the video, but it didn't do that before either. In fact, it doesn't even ignore to-hit penalties like before (except for the move-and-shoot penalty if he's on foot).
Thoughts on Gandalf the White? He's better than then last edition but is he buffed enough to make a list I'm wondering...?
I reckon he is definitely going to see a lot of play this edition. Especially with Pippin mounted on him. He can finally hit really hard and is now better at casting than a lot of the other wizards!
Don't you consider Gothmog, the WK or the Nazguls as big losers in this edition?
WK is still good, Nazgul maybe are a candidate. But Gothmog is for sure an oversight. He gets so little for his points.
Gothmog had a great nerf!
I do dislike how evil factions have TONS of good bonuses and good factions just have bleh.
Great vid
Rip corsair warriors
I can't agree with Elendil being nerfed. His role on the field is now a bit clearer: He is there to beat up other heroes. The free heroic combat is so that Elendil is harder to slow down with chaff. Gil-Galad lost Strike, while Elendil still has it. That makes Elendil a bit better against the high fight value targets in the short term (3+ roll to reach Fight 10). Previously Elendil was good at killing armies. Now he buys his points back by dueling. In any case, heroes losing mounts and horses in general being more expensive is likely a good change overall.
Agree 👌
Goblin warriors 😢
I feel like Guards of the Fountain Court are now in a state, where there is no good situation to take them. Citadel guards are now superior in every way. Is there any situation where Fountain Court Guards are now worth using?
Nope. Which is a real shame. They should have been fearless (not bodyguard) and F5.
I've already tried them, I assure you that they don't change from normal soldiers, so go for citadel guards combined with Irolas
Would have liked a rule like this:
Guardian of the White City
“When within 6” of the Army General, a Fountain Court Guard my re-roll a single die in the duel roll.”
Puts a model like Denethor in a spot to:
1. Get stuck in
2. Decide if taking a banner is worth it, which might lead to give up some VPs early
If not that, at least let them shield with their spear.
The rangers of the north are just so much worse now most men factions are F4. They should have gone to F5 and two attacks on the profile.
Ah yeah the 8 foot tall slayer of sauron should be kinda mid 😅😅😅😅
🎉
The new edition sucks. They're just pushing product.
Who lost? Everyone did.
So you didn't diversify? Do you happen to be a power gamer as well?
@@JezOnYT88 no not a power gamer but still I finis 3 times 1st place in tournements.
Those are my armies:
Rivendell
Mordor
Black gate
Rohan
Isengard
Depth of moria
Easterling
Azog legion
Never mixt them and only play them in their own armies.
Your should of not be building soup lists, not getting all the models in the isanguard faction for lurtz case.
To be fair I think lothlorien is still playable. It has the best magic out of the elves.
