"If you're new, try to play around your teammates" The teammates: DD rushing into radar, over committing BB, cruisers staying flat broadside to enemy BBs
I loved this line. Every ship was great. Some lines always have a ship that sucks, but this one. Each new ship is a clear upgrade from the previous and I never felt useless even when uptiered.
I like them as well. Got the T10 yesterday. For me the T8 and T9 felt even a bit OP. I wish my Missouri's 406 could be close to the T8 Hawke's 406 guns. Duncan was great as well, even great against superships for that sweet xp increase. Superheal allows to deal with the insane HE spam, while the speed allows you to escape and make more use of it. For me the guns are the most reliable BB guns in the game, which gives me confidence for risky but rewarding manouvers i would often avoid with other BBs.
@@Anldiot69 I decided to start this line for no reason. My first battle with Rooke, my very first salvo at a broadside cruiser dev struck it, instead of getting 6 overpens. From that moment, I decided to continue grinding down that line. I am using St.Vincent in ranked and it one hell of a reliable ship. It is a faster Thunderer with more reliable guns, torpedoes, superheal and shorter fuse on the AP. You can pull off some crazy shit with it. I even got the unique commander for it, which is something I wasn't interested in getting before.
Oh i hated the Renown though... but fell in love with Rooke, damn what a great T7! There where not many T7 ships i enjoyed playing this much. Only pain in the a$$ really is the armor sometimes. I've been burnt down almost litterally in seconds. Especially taking hits from large caliber BB's though
These BC lines all felt the same No bad ships, each new ship being an upgrade from the next. Both British and German BCs were amazing to grind. The closest thing to turds in these lines (Renown and Zieten) were still upgrades from their previous ships. Love these Battlecruisers and the only interesting content coming from WG
Goes without saying that in game PRIMARILY about ships shooting other ships, if your salvos are consistent then generally your going to have more fun. When your shells are constantly missing or you get alot of "near misses" due to dispersion, particularly on battleships with their 20-30-40 second reloads its just "Ugh why do i bother!" Plus hay the BCs have torpedos, everyone loves "battleships" with torpedos.
Had a Kongo match this week where RNG just said FU the whole game. I was nicely alive for a long time and probably could have carry turned around the steamroll loss...but no, full misses or shatters or bounces...and shooting at light cruisers only got overpens. Quite frustrating.
Having just started going down this line (after a two year hiatus), they are incredibly fun. Even the tier V Tiger is a relatively enjoyable experience.
So I've grinded upto St. Vincent and my God that nasty 63% fire chance means you'll be constantly lighting fires at each salvo. Feels a bit like Thunderer. 10k salvo and a fire. Also 9 guns with shortfuse AP and battlecruiser dispersion can nuke anything from broadside at 15-18km range. Even Smolensk can get nuked by the british AP
I have to start playing more in the back then I am used to. That might be my problem, because as a BB I am not sitting back so much. I'll just play this ship as a cruiser.
I am on Hawke myself and absolutely loved the Rooke grind. Really surprising cuz i honestly hate most T7 BBs in randoms cuz T9 uptier. I felt relatively comfortable even in uptiered games in the Rooke.
FP + HAP kinda work together, I think. A long superstructure fire just means you can't get lit up there again until it's over; not much point in making the fire shorter if you're likely to get lit up again as soon as it ends.
I totally love the lower tiers of the line, and the mid tiers are pretty great too. St Vincent is one of my new favorite T10s, and overall the line is almost as fun as the german BCs. my only issue with it is that the Duncan I could never get to work for me, even though it's practically identical to the SV but with lower stats and smaller guns. I just don't know why.
Hi PQ, after watching this vid. i'm getting the Hawk. I was trying to decide if i should get her, but after seeing her work in the video, i'm getting her. Thanks for helping me decide.
Got a Kraken 2nd time out in the Hawke, enjoyed the Rooke too, didn't feel like a grind either, for me the trick is to keep moving and changing direction or you'll get punished hard by other BBs
I'm on the Rooke right know and as soon I figured it out it became so so fun .... I agree the guns are super nice - sometimes it feels like playing a heavy cruiser accuracy wise...
Take Improved Repair Party Readiness instead of Basics of Survivability. It helps a lot in endgame situations. British BCs have relatively low HP and improved acceleration helps a lot for dodging salvos. So, you can easily get 60ish second cooldown on superheal.
The RN BCs have become some of my favorite ships in the game, the whole line was solid, not a bad egg among them imo. St. Vincent herself is amazing and has become part of my top 3 battleships to play, shes just so damn fun and so good, the guns are insane. Highly recommend this line to anyone interested in them, amazing line with a fantastic tier 10 to crown it.
Oh Yeah! I started playing these when they first game out and have enjoyed all of them. I'm one game from the St. Vince. I'm average player and way better in DDs than BBs, but I just had my highest dmg every in Duncan. LOVE them, and felt that way when I first started playing the St. Vince on the PT account a month or two ago. POWERFUL! But they do burn easily.
T9 and 10 are pretty good but I’d rather have a Nelson or a Marseille turret placement on the bow of the ship as the 3rd turret is a bit awkward to get to shot, rather than that they are pretty decent
The Rooke and the Hawke have quickly become my favourite ships to play, and are very much the sweet spots of the line. The Duncan and St Vincent just don't fair so well at their tiers as their turret layout makes them a pain to play and they don't quite have the excellent concealment and speed advantage the Rooke and Hawke get using brisk.
I may be missing something here, but these British battlecruisers have not clicked for me yet. Playing them like standard BBs simply has not worked out well, so I need to adjust. Guess they are not meant to be aggressively played?
Do these have the short AP fuse timers like the first British BB line? For some reason I thought they did, but now I am second guessing myself. Hawke has been pretty fun so far, seems a fairly capable ship. I am iffy on going further just because the t9/10 are so flippin ugly lol
Yeah they have the same short fuse timers, it's part of what makes the AP so consistent at penning ships, but not very consistent at getting citadels. It's made me reconsider the AP on the main line, seeing how good the short fuse can be when you don't have the super HE to fall back on and have to use it, has lead to a rough 120k average damage on Lion spamming AP.
Completely agree my man. Had a St Vincent game last night where a Div with a kremlin and repub cornered me, and I nearly got both of them. You will do very well in that ship
I appreciate your videos. I subscribe to a few channels, yours and Jingles being my favorites. One of the things that keeps me from subscribing or even viewing others is the need for them to put their face on the screen. I want to see the ship and battle not their face taking up the screen.
Monarch HE (381mm): 6300 damage, 95mm penetration, 35% fire chance Hawk HE (406mm): 5950 damage, 68mm penetration, 45% fire chance Vladivostock HE (406mm): 5850 damage, 68mm penetration, 41% fire chance North Carolina HE (406mm): 5700 damage, 68mm penetration, 36% fire chance Kansas HE (406mm): 5700 damage, 68mm penetration, 36% fire chance Amagi HE (410mm): 6500 damage, 68mm penetration, 30% fire chance Zieten HE (406mm): 4800 damage, 102mm penetration, 38% fire chance You are not getting the great British HE shells from the main line. At MOST, you are getting a little bit better fire chance than most tier 8 battleships with 406ish mm guns. While people fire the mainline British battleships with HE most of the time is how good those shells are. People seem to default to HE on the British battlecruiser line because the AP just isn't as useful. That fuse timer really screws you over when firing against heavily armored targets.
Honestly when faced with a bow in Russian BB I still prefer the AP in these ships, it's just so consistent even against bow in ships that It's hard for me to justify using the HE, seeing as it's just IJN HE, it's not really all that special.
Rooke against Tier IX vs. Hawke against Tier X. . . Actually this is the first time I have considered “grinding” past Tier VII in quite some time. Even without the Starships Tier VIII battleships can be miserable in the normal up-tiered game.
The game becomes unplayable day after day, at least on the EU server. Since they merged the EU server with the eastern one, the joy level has plumeted, lots of veggies, I mean DDs far behind the BB line, suicidal cruisers that die in the first 3 min, BBs that from start they only go in reverse to the border, lemming trains etc. And to top everything they added a new OP CV, Malta....2 bomb runs and he left me with 15k health in a DM. Where is the joy Wargaming?
St Vincent is OP imo... and people seems to be fine with it? No cit, 40mm deck, spee dispersion, RN heal, speed boost, AA, close range torp, good HE and AP, insane turret traverse speed and manuverability. I dont see any flaw with this thing besides the "25mm bow" that you probably wont even consistently hit. This is just another thunderer but requires a lil bit more brain. I do like it tho (i mean who doesn't like playing an OP ship?). Is it bad for the game? probably, you cant citadel this thing while at least you can cit some bad thunderer players. This thing, and the Mecklenburg, are too strong and probably should get nerfed while I don't see people complaining about it. Hell, most british ships aren't bad. Daring top tier, mino not bad, goliath good in some area burning down krem/petro and stuff, cqr i think we all know and hate this thing its probably a lil bit overtuned after the cit change, thunderer etc... and people seems to be fine with it? French and british can have good or even op ships while one good ship from USSR people starting to go crazy about "russian bias" it just baffles me.
Only on the Tiger atm, free xp'd the tier 3-4, since, who cares about tier 3-4. I hate this thing. I've never felt so at the mercy of RNG before. Broadside battleship at 7km? 1 shell. I've never felt so useless in a bettleships as I have in this thing. The torps could be nice if it weren't for the ship's awful armour making getting close such a dangerous prospect. I just don't understand what this ship is supposed to be. I'd pick any other tier 5 BB over this so far. It's nice to see the later ones pick up the slack though and gives me a reason to actually bother with it.
Tiger sucks - bad dispersion mainly, but the AP has horrific pen. Renown is better but still tough, 6 barrels makes it feel less accurate - Rooke is where it starts to really get good. The only problem is the armor really, if I see a Renown or Rooke I know I can punch it through the face bow-on for good damage
"If you're new, try to play around your teammates" ye this sounds fun. But this dont happen oudside of clan battles... Its almost nothing you see in ranked. Its still same. Man I miss this game. I miss the guns and the naval warfare. Then i watch a video with a CV or a sub. As much as I want to pick this up and grind this ship line. I'll pass. Thanks for the Vids though PQ
This line is really tempting for me. However, both T9 and T10 here are sooo ugly and have a bad turret layout. Also dont like the inflation of speed in this game nowadays. WG just slaps speed boost on new stuff left right and center, creating those completely unrealistically fast BBs which outspot, outpace and of course overmatch many cruisers.
That first two minutes is NOT representative...at least at the lower tiers. I find that you do hit more shells...but you do NOT get good penetrating hits. You will be wondering if HE is a better choice a LOT on Queen Mary and Tiger.
"If you're new, try to play around your teammates"

My Montana teammate sniping from behind the CV.
Does he contribute a lot by sniping?

It's weird how they made the German BB's so inaccurate when historically the Germans had some of the best gunnery.
I kept the Repulse, Renown, Rooke and Duncan, I'm hoping to eventually get the St. Vincent. So far my favorite is the Rooke.
I am on Hawke myself and absolutely loved the Rooke grind. Really surprising cuz i honestly hate most T7 BBs in randoms cuz T9 uptier. I felt relatively comfortable even in uptiered games in the Rooke.

Agree, this line has been a breath of fresh air to the game.
I was getting slapped hard by one of these in a Bismarck, he didn't angle well and he melted when he was shot back but the GUNS hit crazy hard.
I'm someone who values looks over performance (Maybe that's y I love the gk soo much). But hey. You've convinced me.
Love this line accurate guns good dispersion consistent damage.
Superheal is really so good on these ships, like on Nelson. I loose 60-80% of hp before to press the button and don't worry about fires at all.
I'm on the Rooke right know and as soon I figured it out it became so so fun .... I agree the guns are super nice - sometimes it feels like playing a heavy cruiser accuracy wise...
I was the Maerker in the first clip - I didn't die, but I was happy to lose. Big fan!

just starting up the line now myself

The best captains always want good guns, they can work around the rest, if the guns are shit slingers it doesn't matter what the rest of the ship has.
Duncan gets rough, worse dispersion than Hawke and Rooke.
But man, is it good at close range.. those torpedos, the fast reload.. etc..etc..
They don't fair very well especially they eat pens easily from almost all BBs and it faces superships.
That is a short fuse AP, try playing Lion and Conqueror with AP, these are also just devastating with these shells.
Played Rooke and it was quite fun.
P.S. I was quite impressed when Vincent deleted me (on Minotaur) across the map. That accuracy.....
How did you manage to get through the renown, I'm having difficulty with it.
Really enjoyed Hawk. But Duncan is kinda rough against the T11 super ships.
I may be missing something here, but these British battlecruisers have not clicked for me yet. Playing them like standard BBs simply has not worked out well, so I need to adjust.

Dammit PQ, why you make a DD main like me want to play a damn BB/cruiser..... I blame you for my soon to be spent credits and XP..
Am I the only one in this comment section that is somehow struggling with these? I don't know why. Maybe I'm just bad at BB's.
,,the turrets aren't the quickest"....the turrets are actually the quickest out of all t8, t9 and t10 with some others
Am I the only who can't make these ships work?
ya...110k into the Hawke and I don't get anything like you get. It's a POS
I think PQ will wet himself, nce he plays St vincent
its weak broadside armored.. play it against cruisers when they arent focusing on you with main guns and torp out battleships that dont have torps
Passed this nonsense for free xp with 33% wr
900+ hours, p2w game......
Nah, it's just your streamer's account tuned up for showing new ships big numbers. Ordinarily user does not see those. You will neither in few months.
Hawke gets smashed from any angle. Other ships in line are much better.
